Jacob is pretty much okay as a character and I liked how he stood up against his dad but just comes out as boring and "too proper" when you compare him to literally the entire rest of the crew. The game keeps dumping characters at you whom you instantly put on the bench and forget they exist. The majority of them are identical outside of their three unique moves, most of which are just "do damage". Even worse considering how the leveling system works means benched or characters you get later in the game will always be weaker than your main party unless you go out of your way to get their stats up.
Then again the game is so piss easy outside of 2 specific fights so you may as well use whoever you like.

Lydia (and really every companion in Skyrim to an extent) is just such a nonentity that there's nothing to really like or dislike about her beyond surface level stuff like aesthetics. X doesn't have dedicated healers per say but the classes that do have a few healing arts are still pretty good. Healing becomes a meme with overdrive but 99% of the combat mechanics become a meme too so it doesn't matter. You need some form of sustain in 1 until you do late/later game topple lock shenanigans in the form of either shulk or riki (melia's regen won't cut it)
