Thoughts on Yakuza 0?
>>745985243I cried at the end of the Arakure Quest substory
>>745985243One of the best video games I've played the past ~40 years. Not even exaggerating. It seriously feels like something out of my own pen.The "Director's Cut" is a fucking butchered de-make. That shit is insulting as fuck. Fortunately, GOG still sells the OG version, and the PS4 copies obviously still work.
It's ok.Yakuza fans severely overrate this one, it's not even A Tier.
Eh, decent. Plot is a bit contrived but fun. Gameplay is extremely easy with some strange difficulty spikes. The game is bloated with meaningless content that only really appeals to virtual tourists. Aside from the music the game is just decent.
>>745985243Bought it 2 years ago in a Yakuza bundle. Finally played it a couple of months ago. It was pretty fucking good.Looked up some Director's Cut changes afterwards and most of the additions were stupid.
>>745985613I just started playing it and I picked the OG. I only ever played 7 before it and I can see how they both parallel eachother
>>745985243Beginning of the downfall of the series. Far too bloated.
>>7459852435, OG Ishin, and this are the bests games in the series.
>>745985702>virtual touristsI don't think the game succeeds on that level either, to be honest.
Yakuzababs hate it because it's an excellent entry and exit point. It's the only game in the franchise with a comprehensible plot, decent gameplay, quick pace with not that much filler, no Haruka ruining everything, and before you get bored of death of Kamurocho being copy and pasted every game.
im going to play it after i finish infinite wealth
>>745985243I really hated the translation of it but everyone dick rode the translator so you basically couldn't say it was shit The game itself is amazing but it really feels like it was a beautiful gift tot he fans not the start of a million remakes and terrible continuations
>>7459859465 would be good if you only played as Kiryu
>>745985243It's good.
>>745985243Problem with Yakuza is, you play one, you've played them all. The plot never goes anywhere, every game has horrible writing while being cutscene and dialogue text heavyPlay Judgement instead.
How are Judgement and Lost Judgement? Was thinking of getting those on sale. I heard the second one at least is really good.
>>745986021wtf is that clip? did someone just enter a forest and steal every baby mammal they could get their hands on?
>>745985613>It seriously feels like something out of my own pen.holy narcissist
>>745986374I played every single one of these games and would really suggest you only play 0, Judgment and Lost Judgment.
>>745986167>he doesn't enjoy spending hours hunting for bears
>>745985243It ruined the series and made a massive chunk of the current audience physically unable to go back and play any of the preceding 7 titles. I both love everything it brings to the table, but hate how where it set the gameplay expectation for most audiences. Also Kiwami 1 can eat shit. Worst Yakuza game by far and that's including Kiwami 3.
>>745985243>Story was awfully paced poorly written garbageWasting the player time with unnecessary edgy poser cutscene, management of clans and clubs, shitty escort missions, and repetitive go to HQ of Yakuza dens, with padded out dialogue and story events.Plot that doesnt make sense, characters getting revived here and there, characters knowing things that they are not supposed to know just for cheap shock factors, characters doing questionable decisions to force a twist, side quests that are irrelevant and add nothing to the game, with tons of other issues in every chapter.>Gameplay was jankfest clunky with shallow repetitive gameplay and braindead boring combatControls are stiff and the lock-on and the hitbox are janky and inconsistent, the rpg elements and the leveling tree is shallow and adds nothing except retarded samey upgrades for money. Gameplay boils down to minigames and mashing sqaure with traingle to beat the same thugs and the same bosses over and over, gets tiresome to beat the 3 thugs every minute or beat that retarded angry face Daisuke after his edgy poser phase of cutscene ends, with shallow combat that boils down to button mashing and flashy moves aka cutscenes to impress retards.
>>745986587>Production values are subpar compared to any release from its yearLiterally take a look at any game from its release, the presentation, the directing and the visuals are subpar, it looks bad in terms of details, animation & acting, UI and voice acting, nothing standout comparable to any good game released in 2015 (the same year Yakuza 0 was released) animation is literally talking faces, and the its janky transition between proper cutscene and dialogue simulator kills the potential it could have even with that quality.>Characters are retarded plot devices that change depending on the scenedoing sudden 180 turns and change of personality out of nowhere to advance the plot, betrayals and fake deaths, acting stupid so the MC can escape when you are supposed to be higher yakuza clan member but you are too dumb to even plan anything, how did such incompetent fool get so high is an act of poorly written retarded characterization, literally below shounen tier of anime even.>Minigames are uninspired time wasters that add nothing innovativeNothing impressive here, if i want to play 8Ball and Bowling i would go to play them irl, why would i waste my time in this, i could even go play a 8Ball game and not spend 60$ of this, the minigames are simple games taken from the real world, there's no innovation done here, its the equivalent of RDR2 blackjack, why would that give the game praise when its nothing worthy of such. Oh yeah a rhythm game where you click buttons to listen to song, lol fuck that waste of time, that doenst carry the game.
>>745986642>Game design is tediousSaving is tedious, you have to go to a place to save the fucking game.Skipping dialogue is tedious, you have to wait for the cutscene to end their talking face animation to skip properlyFighting is tedious, dmg spoonge with retarded enemy A.I to fight over and over gets tiresome.Traversal is tedious, going from A to B to play the missions only to be interrupted by the same thugs over and over, then they kneel and apologize wtf is that borefest game design???Map is tedious with its shitty design and drawingsShops are tedious, with no filter and all useless shitRPG leveling is forced tedious instead of linear progression because the game doesnt justify adding levels and useless moneySide quests are tedious, where they have nothing important to relate to any character or any plotline from the main story instead they are gag comedy trash.I can go more and more, Bad game.
>>745985243Main story is great. Side quests are boring. It's too grindy. Good game.
>>745986374I have played and beaten every mainline title save Pirate Yakuza, and Judgement is subjectively my favorite in the entire series. Objectively I think it has the best story. Lost Judgement on the other hand has objectively the best gameplay in the entire series, with the story is a VERY different beast. I felt a certain way about Lost Judgement, but that was entirely due to the themes and concepts the latter played with.>>745986527My fucking man.
>>745986374Judgment has a story most like, with alright gameplay. Lost Judgment has some of the best gameplay in the entire series, but with a story that people are more divided about. So if you prioritize story or gameplay will basically decide which one you'll prefer.
>>745986527actually the hunting shit is the only side thing I actually did all of in that game. The taxi stuff was cool but I never finished the whole thing.
>>745987048That basically sounds like 7 compared to IW which is what I'm finishing up right now. IW is definitely more enjoyable to play but the story isn't really going anywhere. I just got to the part where you do that Jo Amon fight you are supposed to lose at first.
>>745985243A masterpieceThe destroyer of the franchiseIt is simultaneously the peak and lowest point of Yakuza.
>>745985243What stood out for me the most was Majima and Makoto's love story. I really like the bitter sweet ending. Made me really appreciate his character.Kiryu's story on the other hand was absolute trash though. His dialogue is so corny it seems AI generated at times.I didn't like the villains either. Some of the lamest villains in the franchise. My favorite of the "lieutenants" is Kuze, he's so cool and really looks like a Japanese mafioso type. Props to his actor. But I don’t like what they did to him. He's an absolute jobber from start to finish and treated as a Team Rocket type threat. Really disappointed with the direction they took with him.Awano is the worst. Still pissed off he killed that hostess for absolute no reason and it's never addressed. I'm not a feminist but the way the franchise treats female characters as expendable is really annoying. Awano still had a "heroic" character death against Lao Gui even though he absolutely didn't deserve it.Shibusawa is lame. He doesn't look intimidating in the slightest, and having him and the big bad was underwhelming. What makes the final boss so anticlimatic is that he's just an old man fighting off a young and peak performance Kiryu. Beating up the elderly like that just felt cowardly and unsatisfying IMO.As for the gameplay, there's not much to say. I did do 100%, took me over 180 hours. Honestly it felt more like work than playing a game. Many minigame repeats from previous titles. The cabaret club minigame, while awesome in concept, became grindy and tiresome when going for 100%. Maxing out affection with all girls in particular was annoying. I need to revaluate if I'm really going for 100% on the next Yakuza games.
>>745985243Its shit, one of the worst games i had the displeasure to sit through, if you tell me this game is good I immediately ignore all your opinions. There is NOTHING good about it. Its a total failure.
I enjoy the combat, and the writing is fun in some of the side quests, but I have to say, it feels like the main story is constantly getting disrupted and I don't think it's necessarily for the better.A lot of the side quests kind of blend together, and the real estate and cabaret are a grind. Ultimately I end up feeling like I just played a lot of filler, but then I also feel like I'm missing out if I don't play it.
>>745985243I loved it, played every rgg game on pc after that. Peak of the franchise.
nightclub manager was fun, rest of the game was not
>>745987410You forgot that chinese Hitman who is totally the best hitman but he fails his shots constantly and the only target he does execute is then canceled by the shitty writing of the game, and the only kill he does is an own goal. The supposed best hitman is also the worst hitman, he is also retarded and exists just as a plot device, another poser villain for clips, I'd rather go watch JOJO with its stylish retarded over the top animations instead of slogging through this 60hour terribly written crime/drama.
>>745985613What is so bad about directors cut anyway?I bought OG a long time ago, but haven’t played it yet. I was thinking about upgrading it to directors version.
>>745988295I haven't played but I heard they added a bunch of cutscenes that are either pointless or retcon things to make them worse.
>>745985243Played it some odd six years ago. Still one of the best gaming experiences ever. I grinded and got pissed at the many, many dumb mini games in the game, and the side stories kind of work against the main story more than in other installments with weird jap shit, but even with thay, I was so glad I played and finished it. It was an experience.
>>745988094Lao Gui is Chinese so I don't consider him a character.
>>745988397It doesn’t sound bad to me. I just checked description again and seems no qol or graphics improvements.Oh OG is delisted on steam already. What is this? Why can’t these videos be a fucking dlc or something?!
>>745985243The only Yakuza I liked from the three I played
>>745986126Then do a fan translation.
I finished every main entry after 0 and it never got this good. Came close a couple times but yeah. Still complete at least one game per year, it's a good time
>>745986346It's a problem and an advantage, since you know exactly what you're getting it can be considered one of those "comfy" games. It's entertaining within your comfort zone. You don't need every game to be something else, something unique. And while they certainly reuse a lot the series still advances at it's own pace.
Why is the kiwami combat so shit compared to 0? I spammed tiger drop all i could trough all the climax battles because the combat is just unfair bullshit
>>745986167Really? I can see it for Saejima cause his chapter really blows, but Haruka and Shianda have very good stories and are fun to play through. Especially Shinada.
>>745985243One of my favorite games of all time. Even if you have no intention of playing the rest of the series, I feel like you owe it to yourself to play this game.
>>745985243I'm pissed it doesn't have a steelbook. Yakuza steelbooks are always cool.
>>745990658I pretty much agree with this. No mainline Yakuza entry has ever been as good as 0. Judgment and Lost Judgment are pretty damn good in their own rights, but that's a separate thing.
>>745995125Ishin remake is on par with 0 in my opinion
>>745991508Always wondered this too. Kiwami feels like ass to play. I could never even be bothered to finish it because it just wasn't fun to play especially after 0.
>>745995173The original is better, but the remake of it is closest to the original out of the rest of the Kiwamis (mostly cause it's a glorified remaster) so this is still valid.
>>745986374Judgment's mystery, story, and characters are fucking top notch, but some of the combat feels scaled back and there are some annoying ass gameplay elements like tailing missions which get old immediately. Lost Judgment genuinely has the best combat in the series, but the story is MAYBE not as good, but that kinda depends on you, and it has a fuckton of side content by way of the school stuff which is different from Judgment which was a little sparse on side stuff. Also has one of the best boss themes in the entire series. And also the Kaito Files, which, while a little expensive for what it is, is a pretty fun after story for one of the main characters.
>>745985243The only good Yakuza game
>>745988295to add to what the other anon said it also add dub of other languages, the problem is that it's bloating the goddamn game size from 25 to 95 gigabytes. It also added a very shallow minigame where you can play as side characters to beat up basic enemies, I guess?that would be 70 plus tips, please.
>>745995173I like how the more disconnected a game in this series is from the mainline, the better it ends up being. Wonder if that logic bodes well for Stranger Than Heaven.
Does the Yakuza remastered collection contain the original version of 3 or the new version they fucked with?
>>745995682Thankfully they still want to charge full price for the Yakuza 3 demake, so it's just the remastered version of 3.
>>745995325We're Sadly never getting the kenzan remake
>>745995426Its because its something completely new, yakuza games have been done to death by now
>>745995901Kinda makes me feel like maybe RGG should just drop the interconnected series thing entirely and do more of an "every game is disconnected from the other games" approach to their games.
>>745986384It's a vid of me and my homies.
im playing kiwami 2 right now and enjoying it more than zero. i didnt like the constant switching between characters in zero, and goro's fighting style is actually kind of shit. and the caba club stuff was fun but totally pointless, and, again, it felt disjointed because you could only do it as goro. like, if you forget to do it and trigger a cutscene, you might be playing as kiryu for the next 3 hours.and speaking of caba club, aika looks so fucking busted in this game. ugly as sin. in zero, the av girls actually looked their real selves.
>>745995836Might buy it then. I already own a ps3 disc of 4, and 5 digitally, but since that's a ps3 game I'm sure snoy will steel it from me. Also that day 1 edition looks sick.
>>745988295>Font is significantly worse.>They completely messed up the screenshot cutscenes so now the name is in the dialogue box instead of above it.>One brand new cutscene exists solely to explain something that is so blatantly obvious you'd have to be an idiot to not understand it and just spoils that scene happening later.>Two cutscenes exist to keep two dead characters alive even though one of them would be dead of old age before 1 anyway and the other is literally a cripple who survived a car bomb going off underneath his balls.>Visually all it did was make the cutscene models the normal models, ease up on the DoF, and play at 4K so it only really helped visually if you were on consoles as it was already 1080p 60 stable on a PS4 Pro or Xbone, 1080p 60 with screen tearing on a base PS4 so the jump wasn't exactly huge.>Put all their work into an online multiplayer-only mode equivalent to something like Bad Boy Dragon from K3 where you go through gauntlets as various playable characters until you reach the end, though this was the first time since Kenzan you could play bosses in something. It's just a downgrade. The only good additions are turning Kuze's final encounter into a cutscene rather than the voiced text chat and an epilogue where Kiryu and Nishiki talk about the events that just happened.
>>745999778Also dont forget>No mouse controls for the car chase>No way to change legend styles without pausing the game>Cant rebind your controls in minigames>Still cant do legend on new game plus for some fucking reasonYou'd think these would be the first changes they'd include but i guess not. Directors cut is literally the same game trough and trough
>>745995682PS3 3 is the definitive edition as it has all the content now due to the restoration patch. Play this if you have a hacked PS3 or a computer capable of emulating 3. There is no reason you should be playing 3R if you have either of those as your options.Remastered Collection is 3 but the "If I have to" choice because 60 FPS introduces tons of glitches in combat like people not shooting their guns (PC can fix this if you don't play in borderless windowed mode), quicksteps being too short or too far depending on your platform (PC can fix this with a mod), enemies blocking twice as often as if you're playing Kenzan (No platform can fix this), Heat Action timing being halved (I've only seen this fixed on PC on an overhaul if I remember right), Heat gain and drain being halved and twice as fast (PC can fix this with a mod), and at launch PC specifically had instant fishing bugs but those have been fixed though I think there's one other minigame with a bug on PC that I want to say was in 3R but might be in another game. I don't know of any other issues 3R has off the top of my head.Kiwami 3 is the remake and it's a downgrade in every single way. It's genuinely impressive how they looked at Ishin Kiwami and went "How can we make a remake as bad as this?" and did it again. The only good things to come from K3 at all are Miya, Tsubasa, Dokuzawa, and 3G, and even then 3G makes Mine's entire character extremely confusing.
>>745995845A translation patch is coming soon, don't worry.
>>745995173Ishin Kiwami is horrible compared to the original. Don't even pretend like it's anywhere close to 0's level. It's genuinely a bad game even on its own merits without considering Ishin existing at all.>>745995325You can't be serious. K1 and K2 adding styles or having an engine change are still way less than what IK did to Ishin. They changed the entire crafting system for the worse since now you have to deal with seeded RNG and the grind for the Seals, changed the entire combat both with the cards and how the armor system works so now Wild Dancer makes Swordsman 100% irrelevant due to having infinite iframes, removed minibosses to add Battle Dungeon bosses into the story, completely changed how you approach the story by changing Kondo and Takechi's models, changed damage values of basically everything, added in the entire Memoir system so now you take hours longer to reach Amon, ruined the Amon fight because you have cards outside of the Battle Dungeon now, changed the Battle Dungeon so it's grindier due to the combat changes and new enemies, and a whole hell of a lot more.I can't believe you played the original if you're saying this, it changed huge swathes of everything. The styles don't even play the same because of the new armor mechanics preventing Gunman and Brawler from even being usable without Pierce/damage buff Seals, now Wild Dancer can iframe infinitely due to not having Dharma Roll, and elemental swords can infinitely stunlock because now you have Elements instead of praying for a 10%ish chance for any hit to proc the effect that lasted half the time. Even the entire equip setup is completely different between both games because of how drastic the changes are.
