You were no longer a mute psychopath with strange music playing on the radio in a very strange city... now you're a mobster with a personality in a city that is very clearly 1980s Miami, something people can recognize. And tons of licensed music so your parents could at least vaguely recognize what you were playing. GTA 3 was fucking weird but that's what makes it so timeless.
does anybody know if the PC port continued development after the takedown? If not, it's a fucking shame.

They are almost movie-like, putting a ton of effort in the story, while I, II, and III are more like arcade games.The thing about III I like is the atmosphere. They kept the dark and gritty atmosphere of Everywhere City and brought it to Liberty City. It just has that Y2K pre-9/11 feel that hasnt been replicated since. I also like the more generic approach to the crime scene rather than making it a blown out version of what it really is. I also like having a silent protagonist so the story telling is done by the people you meet, like Half-Life almost. GTA 3 also had some bangers. Rise and MSX FM come to mind.

After San Andreas they basically said the same thing again and thats why 4 probably has the most interesting story of the series but they actually went too far that time. I say they already went too far in VC, but thats just me.
I’m replaying it right now. Just finished Donald Love missions. Apart from driving, GTA3 SUCKS. the missions are boring, some borderline impossible without cheats. no story or character depth. just run errands for strangers, 90% of the time that’s being a driver. Liberty City is great.
