What caused the downfall of asymmetrical slasher games? Dead by Daylight is the only one alive while other games like Dragonball Breakers, Killer Inn, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Carnival Hunt all died in a month
>>745989852Look at what DBD has going different for them compared to all the other asymms, it's not a gimmicky game based around one franchise. F13 was great but it's about Jason and can only ever be about Jason. Same with Halloween, TCM, etc. Meanwhile DBD can have characters from all sorts of franchises, and even their own original characters. Along with maps from different IPs. It gives DBD a longevity that these other games will never have because eventually, people get tired of hockey mask man.
>>745989852Breakers killed itself entirely with retarded changes no one asked for and ridiculous Jewry. They fucking removed DODGING without being transformed.
I really liked DB Breakers I'm really sad they killed it by making everything part of the fucking gacha among other retarded decisions.
>>745989852It's not like the other games every really took off in the first place.
>>745989852The problem with asymmetric games at large is they are horribly imbalanced and tedious when everyone realizes the correct way to play the game. DBD skirts around this, because there is a real draw and motivation to roleplay and make inefficient choices, that make the game better for everyone.>>745990326>BreakersAlso this. These games are prone to getting fucked by their own creators for a couple reasons. Among them, the tenuous balance inherently lends itself to enshittification and microtransactions, and clumsy rebalance decisions that generally just piss off whatever existing playerbase. Plus, every asymmetric game eventually runs into the issue that one of the sides is simply more fun, and you need to come up with good, compelling reasons to play the game when on a side you hate. If the only thing keeping you there is a temporary ban for quitting early or throwing, you'll just stop playing, especially if you hate the more common side.
The fanbases that pop up around the games.
same problem as smash clonesthe IPs are the big draw and everyone who copes otherwise is delusionalreminder dbd is so broken at a fundamental level that you essentially have to play with made up house roules like a gentleman otherwise the game becomes the worst multiplayer experience of your life
>>745989852I would have bought Dragon Ball-Breakers if it had local co-op.Instead, all these games are only as playable as your ability to find a lobby of people online to play them.
Asymmetrical games don't seem to last long as a genre, like Evolve died on launch. Probably coz it's hard to balance and keep both sides fun.
>>745995556I miss Natural Selection 2.
>>745995556YeahEvolve is really the ideal case study for the flaws of the genre. The balance is very skewed, and when you learn how to play the game correctly, it gets boring. Evolve devolving into Ring Around the Rosie, and the winner being determined nearly 100% by whether or not the human team's Hunter got the trap off enough times, fucking sucks. There are people who want to play the monster, and want to play the human. They have no incentive to keep the game going if they roll into the wrong role. Except the grind. And, the grind is indeed leveraged against quitting. And THEN you get the bullshit DLC characters that are uncounterable without the other side similarly arming up, which leads to MORE defeatist streaks, where the human side has three poorfags, against a paypiggy monster, and the writing is on the wall. Just throw and get the match over with. The core problem that always emerges, is the games become not fun more often than they are. It becomes a job you work to finance the one good game you eventually get to have. Similar problems to a lot of freemium games, when you realize you exist to be the entertainment for the whales.
>>745995662I forgot all about that. I didn't play it too much but do remember a few nights with a good group of friends. Also just looked up Evolve to remember who made it (Turtle Rock) and last thing they did was Back 4 Blood and were acquired by Tencent in 2021 . And Natural Selection 2 (made by Unknown Worlds who did Subnautica) were also acquired by Koreans in 2021. >>745995925I've only really ever had a lot of fun for a while in any asymmetrical games in LAN/ full group situations, so you kinda gotta make your own fun which is hard with online randos.
>>745989852>Dragonball BreakersThe what now? Literally never heard of it
>>745995556I played a bit of the Hide and Seek in Forza Horizon and holy fuck it is unbalanced>Five people trying to find one player with a shitty radar>Hiders can see you at all times>Even when seekers find them they have to stay near them for an eternity and that's if they don't get away and the bar depletes>Hiders have an EMP ability get out of jail free card with a tiny cooldown>Seekers only have a Google Maps ping that spots the hider for like 15 seconds with the same recharge time >Have to deal with retarded teammates who ram into you and don't know how to play it Basically the only way you lose as a hider is if the EMP glitches out and doesn't work
>>745996101Cool premiseShit execution Side A is your favorite dragonball villain here. Side B is a list of dragonball glup shittos, with peaks like Farmer with a Shotgun. Side A has some shit to do to power up to their full power and blow everything up. Side B has objectives to complete to close up shop and tell them to fuck off, store's closed. Unfortunately it's been managed about as badly as a game can be, and is completely miserable to play.
>>745989852To skip writing a novel, they need to be braindead party games that throws balancing out of the window in favor of fun for everyone. F13 did this best, but it got sniped by (((legal problems))). DbD is carried by momentum at this point and using a monkey paw to kill every competitor
>>745996246>Hiders can see you at all timeslmao what
