Controllers used to last more.It's either better quality analog sticks, or better calibration/deadzone routines.On the N64 for example there is a key combination that just re-center the stick on the spot

I'm starting ro get stick drift on my second one :(It's the best controller right now apart from that. Adaptive triggers will be the standard moving forward, and they're fantastic. The touchpad is actually really good too, but no games ever utilise it. The guitar minigame in TLOU2 is fun as hell with it.It has a decent microphone and speaker in it too.

I raid in FFXIV on controller and I've noticed that in savage/ultimate level content it's a genuine hindrance having to move my character right while spinning my camera left to look at a mechanic, it's much easier with the Xbox controller. Tradeoff is that the d-pad is harder to access, but missing an ogcd is less damaging than dying because I couldn't avoid an AOE fast enough.
These things are pure luck of the draw. My first was bought used three years ago and has no problems. My second was new (bundled with the console; got the first one for PC) and drifted from the start.That said, the drift on mine is so minor it doesn't bother me at all so I use both equally. The only other controller I've had with drift was a wired 360 controller and it's much worse than my PS5 drift but I just got used to it.

I felt the adaptive triggers once and turned them off immediately because it's a horrid mechanic. The touchpad is a permanent parasitic draw on the battery and almost no games use it. Which is fortunate because it's a terrible input method as well. I really wish they'd release a light version of the controller with all that stripped out.
