If there was a rom hack fix for this, I would be a lot more into the game, but as it its just ok. on the bright side, it has some of the most insanely polished presentation of a 16 bit game. there is a demake of it too, that copies the engine of star ocean 2, but I dont reccomend it. even though it fixes the complaint I just said by letting you choose the party leader, it literally just feels like "so2 but much worse" and its soulless as hell. stick with SNES.5 is an abject disaster, just stay away.6 is good in some areas, I like the story and presentation and the characters. Unfortunately I think the battle system is absolute shit, and ruins the appeal of the battle systems in 2/3/4 that made them so fun. the level design also focuses on these fuckhuge open maps way too often which Im not a fan of. so its kind of like the opposite of so4, good story/characters but awful gameplay. and Id rather much rather play 4 and deal with some cringe anime bullshit but still have a fun game underneath it.
