Haven't played Monstrum Nox or Proud Nordics (which I'm waiting for a good sale on) yet, but Ys 8 is basically a better version of Celceta in every aspect except weapon/armor upgrading, which was dumbed down for some reason. It's a really excellent game.

Maybe it's because I tried it when Seven and Celceta were still fresh to me but I really didn't take to VIII at all, probably the one I like the least. I'm also not that into island settings though.

>>746006048Oath or Origin is the best. The intro actually lowers my opinion of Ys 8 and is a perfect example of what I dislike about modern Ys games. Old ones gave you a short intro and then threw you right into the action and the story doesn't break up the gameplay all that much, even if it does it still tends not be for very long. Ys 8's intro is throwing cutscene after cutscene after cutscene at you. Even when you FINALLY get to explore the island, it's still throwing you into cutscenes after almost every area transition, it's not until a while later that you're basically free.
