Pic related is only well known in Saturn circles. I've never seen anyone who got into Dragon Force dislike it. Plenty bounce off it because it seems really complex and doesn't explain much, but that's different from learning it and disliking it.

This is a fun Metroidvania
There are also the Dragon Quest Monsters games. But anything that needs a fan translation is probably cheating.
I really like HorrorVale. Great Halloween RPG.

Community Pom was a super cute zelda clone with a pretty good ost to boot. I also really enjoyed my time with Circadia even if I think the game is objectively flawed due to just how barebones the RPG elements are.

Main goal is to collect all the Poms and bring them back to the Community. You can then recruit those Poms to travel and fight with you. Different Poms have different abilities like making bridges or swimming so they're like stand ins for equipment. Lulu is really mobile so it just feels really good to blow through dungeons and the overworld and the magic is pretty strong too. Overall, it's a short game, very lighthearted, refuses to take itself seriously and not very difficult. It's definitely worth giving a try at the very least. Pretty sure it has an English patch online but I can't vouch for it's quality, I played in Japanese.
