Either steam has to take a stance on ownership and DRM do they are going to face more backlash, piracy and criticism.

Their lame ass cookie cutter response of "DRM is good because it provides you with the best steam experience" isn't going to cut it.

They don't need DRM to verify you own the game locally because the license already checks whether it's in your library or not through a server, your account already is a DRM check. You'll never be able to put a game in your steam account and display it or use mods that you didn't buy.

People are fucking abandoning Sony, abandoning streaming platforms en masse, abandoning all digital media.

Steam and valve are going to have to respond because people are abandoning platforms that restrict their freedom.

Whether something has DRM or not matters but ultimately people want always offline ownership forever that means always offline and no way a company can take away your access whether future or now.

Blurays are DRM, but they are always offline forever. Studios have no power to revoke your access because they don't have control of you digitally it's always offline format. It's more like soft DRM.

When you buy a Blu-ray or a DVD you have a guarantee that that media will never be taken away from you. Steam cannot guarantee that same promise fundamentally because of how steam DRM in an account works which is why they need to remove all their DRM so you can play games fall asleep offline from the .EXE

Steam has the ability to revoke your access where's Blu-ray and DVD movies music they can't do that

I fucking hate that M-Disk and M-Disk Burners have become so expensive because the industry is no longer producing burners making burning your own disks an Expensive hobby. I calculated it and making a Physical M-Disk Copy of a 100GB game would cost me around 15€ (M-disk Blue Ray + Packaging) give or take plus 120€ for the burner.
The company Verbatim currently has a Monopoly on that Market pretty much producing both the Burners and the Disks.

>>
>>746012106
That's always been the case, middlewitted laymen have just been under the mistaken impression that owning a disc means owning the game on it when the disc and the game license are two separate products. Steam can only sell licenses, but you own the storage medium Steam installs them to. The issue of DRM is a separate problem, and in terms of that, the DRM Steam uses is the least intrusive and easiest to remove.
>>

Workshop is shit and manually downloading mods from everywhere but Nexus will always be superior.

have you ever actually read the GOG terms? You own just as little as anywhere else.
You can keep the working installer files around, but legally it would still be copyright infringement to use them without a valid license (which GOG can revoke whenever they want to / are forced to)
>>
>>746012224
>Either steam has to take a stance on ownership and DRM
Valve have taken a stance you brain damaged retard. It's entirely up to the developer if they ship on steam with DRM.
Neither Steam or GOG allow you to download installers without authorisation.

Well yeah, it's a advantage of steam that they actively fund Linux gaming and thus give you access to a lot more Linux versions than other shit. But it's a bit petty to put it in a list.
Much of the rest is still easily fixable by installing a file.
But the Linux shit especially feels like I could make a list of every steam game for not having an offline installer available...

Kek, do you actually believe people get arrested for downloading some show or game? Whenever they actually move their asses, they go after uploaders, for obvious reasons, not any of the millions of people downloading stuff.

You realize this whole thread is just a snoy/tendie falseflag, right? They want PC chads infighting, because they hate that we have so many options. GOG and steam are not competing. We both can exist.
>>
Why does Steam not give a Offline Folder of the game you buy if it doesnt have Denuvo?

Because i dont see a reason why they dont, all it needs to do is not give achievements and play time for your account thats it you bought it you should own the offline copy minus a connection to steam, thats literally what sony is doing minus the options like PC
>>
>>746024464
>GOG and steam are not competing
That is correct.

That would be true, if both companies made consistent profit (and one doesn't in reality).

Denuvo isn't the only form of copy protection. If a game doesn't have copy protection, you can run it without Steam from said download directory already.

If it has no copy protection, it has no timer. You can copy it to another directory, another computer without Steam, or whatever. And offline mode supposedly works forever according to other anons. I live in America and am never offline, though.

No it's not, I'm a PC main and I just think gabe worshipers are disgusting faggots. I use Steam myself, but mostly for online games. I just get mad when Steamies try to shittalk GOG for no reason. I get the hate for Epic, but why GOG?

Close but falseflagging is being done by epicjeets, the posting style with as much subtlety as a gorilla with a sledgehammer feels like a bunch of jeets. The pre-prepared memes complete with a deviant art anime mascot feels like a bunch of people who dont understand site culture but desperately want to fit in.

If a game is bigger than 10GB then I simply won't download it.

I have over 22TB across all my drives, but there is no reason for a game to be that big.

It's why I refuse to download hi-res audio, blu-ray videos or any 4K texture pack.

People do not know how to compress things anymore. They do not value optimization in any form or facet.

When I go to download a new GOG game and the installer has multiple .bin files associated with the .exe my whole day is ruined.

None of the original games GOG sold were like that. You had one file and maybe occasional a single .bin. The additional goodies would often outnumber the game itself in terms of storage space.

I've gone into pack viewers to analyze what's taking up all this space in new games and it is always without fail the raw textures, poorly encoded videos and never anything to do with the real code.

I refuse to support DRM but I especially refuse to support developers who force me to clog up my drives with more data than necessary. It is insulting to me. It genuinely shows that they don't respect me as a consumer that they make me download 50+ GBs for a video game when they used to fit on floppy disks.

Those are opposing concepts.
Compression results in lower performance since decompression has to be done during play.
Granted, that's worse on GOG since it limits you to third world speeds, but when it only takes 10 minutes or less to download pretty much anything on Steam, filesize isn't an issue.
That said, you're likely poor and running on a potato that may or may not include a GPL OS.

I have at most 5 tb of space across my drives, and I struggle to even fit half of that. A game I'm obsessed with right now, Mega Man X Regenesis, is barely 200 mb.

Maybe these modern devs should stop bloating their games.
>>
>>746010281
Bought Nox, Arcanum and Ultima VII recently. Been emulating old Japanese PC (PC-98, MSX2, etc.) games lately. The graphics in these games have so much sovl and charm that modern games can't even compete.

That's because Good Old Games were sold on single 700 MB CDs, now that GOG also sells new games, you obviously need more space. Splitting games into 4 GB chunks is actually the best way to distribute DRM free games. 4 GB is the limit of how big a file can be in FAT32 file system, and thanks to GOG installer files being never bigger than 4GB you can easily backup them onto external USB drives, or DVD discs.

As soon as Haben croaks the company will be shareholder owned and all your games will be fucked.
Meanwhile GOG's exe will sit on you harddrive for eternity, completely offline
And is say this as a Steam with a 100+ game library.
