https://www.eurogamer.net/how-to-fish-one-million-sales-steam

>If you've browsed the frontpage of Steam in the last few days, you'll no doubt have come across How to Fish, the debut project from developer Dazed Games. The co-op fishing game released on 20th August, and just three days later, its developer announced it had sold 1 million copies.

>Despite arriving in close proximity to multiple anticipated releases, such as Mortal Shell 2, the Modern Warfare 4 beta and the Wardogs closed beta, How to Fish has been one of Steam's most played games since it launched, peaking at 268,101 concurrent players (via SteamDB) - a figure that has grown multiple times since its release day.

>One thing that likely helped it reach that milestone so quickly is the price, at just £3.96 / $4.95, a 38 percent launch discount available until 27th August.

>How to Fish is a physics-based fishing game for up to four players. Of course, this isn't strictly a game about fishing with a rod, as it also includes other means of acquiring sea food - such as with firearms and explosives

>The game is clearly inspired by more than the recent renaissance of so called friendslop co-op games, as it also makes nods to shooters and other genres. One mechanic rewards you for landing "trick shots", an old Call of Duty community term about landing difficult shots such as no-scopes. It also lets you gamble some of your earned in-game money.

"Frindie Slop"
>>
I have no friends therefore this game is friendslop aka bad
>>
>>746018464
Can't wait for AAA devs to start making friendslop games in 2030 and said games being flops because the trend is already over.
>>
>>746020919
lol
And of course, instead of wacky characters and a nonsensical theme, you control Black lesbians with vitiligo, and the theme is "patriarchal oppression" or some shit.
>>
>>746018464
It makes sense. This way you need at least 2 copies to play the game as intended, not just one. And giftfags LOVE guilt tripping you into playing with them.

I wishlisted the game when the trailer showed their FPS autism
good games succeed, concord games fail. simple as.
>>
It's the literacy rates. On average the youth is now too retarded to grasp mechanical depth. The bar has fallen so low now that a game about watching paint dry is a best seller.

>Black

>>746018464
This is the current Steam meta, make random shit and hope you win the lottery.
This is what killed big studios.
>>
these games are pretty much the equivalent of simple board games.
just some stuff that's pretty cheap and easy to learn, so you can just hop into a round and there's not too much difference between the guy who already played 10 rounds and the guy who joined for the first time.
basically UNO
>>

These games are only popular due to streamers, and streamers are also the only way for your game to get popular unless you are a very big franchise or very lucky.
They have an enormous impact on video games.
>>
A fucking new friendslop every month, it's the most obvious industry plant ever
>>
>no good fishing games
>silly fun with friends
winning combination
>>
>>746021414
>make random shit and hope you win the lottery
same exact strat AAA studios are using
>>

didn't webfishing come out like two years ago?

I use an automatic translator, and for some reason it capitalizes "black" but not "white". Example (I won't edit the sentences below):
I saw a Black woman on the street
I saw a white woman on the street.

These comments are correct, but one thing indie devs need to understand is that they don’t need a popular product to survive. The surest way to make a living in game development is by creating games for a niche audience. I know someone who has only about 500 patrons for his dating sims for fucking years, but he gets by just fine.
>>
>indies slowly realizing you don't need to make good games anymore, just some cheap streamer bait that doesn't function as a game, but all is good if generates some clipable moments and hope it goes viral
>since this shit is extremely low effort, it can get pumped in a industrial scale
why does everything feels like a race to the bottom?
>>
>>746021716
>I use an automatic translator
why?
>>
>>746021785
Because I'm retarded as fuck, so it's hard for me to write in English.
(I'm writing without a translator now)
>>
Can't they make nofriend slop for real ones like myself?
>>
>>746018464
Why are you mad kids are having fun? Why are you mad they are making friendships?
>>
>>746021745
Friendslop is basically licensed games for modern audience
You will still get your qualityslop from autistic dev
>>
>>746022040
>Why are you mad they are making friendships?
Because the entire purpose of "friendships" and "camaraderie" is always ganging up on the lonely loser.
>>
>>746018464
>games are just roblox game modes now
god damnit. i knew that shit will spread outside of it's containment zone the moment all those slop trained kids start to have some money.

>One mechanic rewards you for landing "trick shots", an old Call of Duty community term about landing difficult shots such as no-scopes.

>a term from 1920s used in cue sport

>including several other sports including fishing come the late 1950s

>this retard thinks CoD is where it started
>>

can't be lonely if you don't want it right?

>Flash games are just roblox game modes now
>>
>>746022264
flash games were prettier
>>
>>746018464
It was advertised aggressively, Steam and GoG sent out emails about it
>>
Seeing all this friendslop bs is pissing me off because it's clearly the meta and my game makes absolutely 0 sense for it to have co op until the game ending, it could work before the ending but the 2nd player will be a different kind of character with much less power and moves.
>>
>>746018464
I usually love indie games but this looks like shit and sounds boring as hell. If I want to catch fish I rather replay Dave the Diver.
