What's the appeal of open world games?
If the world wsa closed how would you get in?
I can't decide if OP really looks like that
>>746025884I like wandering around
Linear games are overpriced.
the world is... le open
>>746025884tedious vidya busywork is therapy for autists and depressed people
>>746025978I'd sneak in. But then the game becomes a stealth game instead.
Immersion
>>746025884Player agency, world building, space for GAMEPLAY, and more. Of course, the developer has to actually build any of that shit into the open world, and not simply yell OPEN WORLD OPEN WORLD OPEN WORLD HERE ARE SOME CHORES ER MAP MARKERS FOR YOUUUUUUU.
>>746025884>tranime
>constantly hear about how pic related is an unfinished open world slop mess>finally play it because curious>it's actually fun/v/ has no idea what makes a good open world game

>>746025884FREEDOM
It was a dream for many players who wondered what it would be like if you could escape the linear maze of the levels and explore game worlds freely, but never could because this road is closed, that mountain is unclimbable, and the end of a level teleports you to some other place skipping the whole path in between.
>>746025884To waste my free time.
>>746025884women like that arent real so whats the point in living
>>746027647??OP looks exactly like that
>>746026647>anime website
>>746025884>Avatar or signature use.
>>746027720He won't date me so what's the point in living?
>>746026540>space for GAMEPLAYThe larger and more open a game is, the harder it is to make the gameplay interesting because you can't design coherent experiences with deliberate enemy placement, traps and hazards that pose a challenge and require the player to think how to overcome that and use the tools at their disposal. Many of them try to solve it by placing POIs, camps and dungeons around the map that you enter and fight through or have puzzles in them but that is kind of a concession because you are putting your players back into an enclosed experience again, and your open world just becomes the vehicle to connect these which is why fast travel is so prevalent. After the enjoyment of how big and pretty the open world is fades away, people just wanna get to the actual content and the devs know this so they always have fast travel.
She was so hot before the haircut, they literally ruined her
>>746025884Why is she so ugly?
>>746025884Sex with hags (29 years old)
>>746028162Dude, it's not the haircut that ruined her.
>>746025884It's a white people thing, don't trouble yourself trying to understand.
>>746028551Mountains are overrated, forrests are the good shit
>>746028551>its a retard thingDon’t insult white people like that, its racist not all white people look like pic related (you)
>>746025884Depends on the game, for some games it's about the sandbox, for others it's for exploration
>>746028551wypipo got that dog in em. got that faustian spirit.
>>746026647turn on your monitor

What's the appeal of linear games?
>reddit no uta
>>746025884Just roaming around can feel pretty nice
>>746025884Dunno. Lol. Maybe I'll have an answer when my head finally clears. But it is nice to sometimes slow down and see "something" close by or from afar. There're some nice vistas I've seen in SAOHF, Trails in the Sky and MonHun FU/3rd. The thought of "I wanna go there" is something I've felt occasionally for those jpg skyboxes.Exploration is neat with or without a bone being thrown at you. It's highly dependent on what a dev does with it, and probably your own personal connection and interest.
yep, im thinkeng sex with vampires
bump
>>746031386Casual retards will say "m-muh handcrafted experience" or some stupid shit like that. Basically they're saying they like moviegames but don't want to admit it.
>>746025884>What's the appeal of open world games?Exploring the entire fastness of land and the freedom to look at every little nook and cranny of it. It's hard to get good open worlds though, for them to work the very traversal itself has to be fun and not a waste of time. So far only GTA San Andreas, Prototype and Dying Light 1 + The Following DLC succeed for me.
>>746026343This, it's a design choice to keep people busy doing focus-tested exploration like lab rats.
anko uguisu
>>746031386I don't need to walk to everything. I just get to the next level when I beat the current one. There's also a more natural difficulty curve. For open world shit you need to add level scaling or just hope the player goes to every area in a order that isn't gonna fuck them or the game over. They also can use shit like theatrics since you don't need to make every area somewhere you can go. You can block places and show a little miniature or cut out of the place they can go later. Then make that place properly live up to the hype.
