Yeah but they still seriously piss me off especially because they go against the whole point of valuing each timeline and not treating these different worlds as disposable things that are mere stepping stones to some end. It feels like such a spit in the face that I can't not hate it.

I already had enough of her when she somehow got cured in tsumihoroboshi instead of getting killed for some payback for the way she acted up until now. I was SEETHING when she was somehow able to feel the presence of something or tell that there were multiple timelines, just like K1 and the endof Minagoroshi. I forget exactly what it was but that shit set me off. I'm still big mad after all this time; fuck Rena.

I loved the first chapter but that was ridiculous. Such a scenario would have worked much better as a chapter 3 story, where we can tell something is off, rather than expecting us to perceive something is off through the actually BS is happening in that town and to K1.

I agree that they're mostly shit, but I figured that was why they're all bad ends, telling you to suck it up and do the fragments properly. I think one of the console arcs is exactly that; a crappy chapter that ends halfway through if you avoid the proper endings to the first few question arcs.
>>
>>746037578
its kind of unclear exactly how much of K1 running from those "mysterious men" was hallucinating and how much was actually him being followed. Also at some point he actually does hallucinate Rena following him after she already stopped that day.
A lot of it is certain things happening early on and then K1's schizo mind perpetuating it.

Higurashi was good until about Episode 5, maybe 6. By 7 it started getting retarded and then by 8 it was full retard. And I'm not even going to bring up why Rika never thought to tell Hanyuu to start tailing people across timelines when she knows Hanyuu could do it.

>>
>>746037578
Honestly I think Higurashi both pulled off a giant caper on its fans and also a massive fuck up with this. I think there's enough clues left around to show that K1 is just gaslighting himself into thinking everything in chapter 1 was a hallucination/his fault (like in chapter 2 how he misinterprets a lot of shit going on but he still grows because of that later on) and that Rena is actually off her fucking rocker because she killed Rina and Teppei and thinks K1 was ratting her out to ÅŒishi (hence the eavesdropping on his phone call and her chewing him out over getting in his cruiser). But since they decided to leave this to a vague undefined virus that has no rules and does whatever the fuck it wants all that work is thrown out the window so most fans just writes it off as K1 needing to take his meds. Hell I see people say that K1 just imagines she's chasing him with a hatchet at the end when they very clearly mention its presence during said chase.

>its kind of unclear exactly how much of K1 running from those "mysterious men" was hallucinating and how much was actually him being followed
Given what we find out about the Mountain Dogs (or whatever they were called), almost all of it should have been real. The MD suspected that K1 was infected so they were indeed pursuing him, and K1 was undeniably almost hit by the van. Pretty much the only things hallucinated involved Rena. Rena--Ryukishi's favourite--was actually good all along, she did nothing wrong; it was K1s fault for imagining it.

>>746040108
Rena knows everything and is always right! 6 could have been great if the story didn't bend over backwards to justify Rena's actions (including fucking murder). I like to view Higurashi as only chapters 1, 2 and 5; 1 for the tone, setting, and mystery; 2 for the climax; and 5 for the actual answers "arc". It works pretty well and cuts out all the BS associated with the actual story.

>>746040298
Fair enough, it's not impossible. It would never cross my mind to even consider a "it was all made up/inside K1s mind" because it does a disservice to what was there. All the cool angles the story could take:
Conspiracy by everyone in the town to keep the past buried;
Paranormal/supernatural activity that you don't want to fuck with;
Shady, secretive group working in the shadows for so reason;
A mixture of all of the above.
With 7 chapters left, I definitely didn't want to think that the worst possible angle will occur.

>>746040509
Ryuukishi really needed to pick a lane and go with it. Instead all of the big mysteries were actually happening. only one of the town, paranormal, shady group should have been real. Chapters 2 & 5 are focused, thus excellent. That's how the rest of the story could have been.

I had a look to see what I found objectionable all this time. This was it. Rena manages to basically convince everyone that she had no other choice but to kill; I found that insanely outlandish, but it is Rena, who's able to talk no jutsu everyone and is always right. She definitely had other options but she didn't take them and then the narrative justifies it because ultimately it pushes them to talk and build closer friendships :)
You can see the scene for yourself as I left in the video name and time.
>>
>>746042228

>>
>>746037578
This is a speedreader issue. You get two major clues:
1. The existence of the Yamainu and their constant presence as gardeners or carpenters, every single scene draws attention to them when it's necessary but it's disguised as flavor text. If you are paying attention, what actually happened at the end of Onikakushi becomes extremely obvious.
2. Keiichi has problems with women and this manifests in his L5 triggers always being related to them. The reason for this is revealed with his full backstory in a later chapter.
Any more than this would be too much for the first chapter of a serialised episodic mystery story.

I never interpreted this as the story telling us Rena is right to do this, quite the opposite. by the end of the chapter, the club members receive the lesson that no, they can't just let Rena take matters into her own hands and forgive her afterwards so everything can go back to normal. The ending is kind of K1 taking responsibility for that and trying to fix things "properly," but even then we know Tsumi would've never had a happy ending.

Keiichi did something similar trying to "forgive" Shmion during wata/meakashi and we know how that turned out.
>>
>>746042921
>what actually happened at the end of Onikakushi becomes extremely obvious
What did happen because what we have makes no sense as is. If he got grabbed by the Yamainu at the end he would have been hauled back to the clinic but instead he wakes up at his house

that scene happens in 1982, so Shion punting Satoko across the classroom could be locked in. (unclear in fragments where Shion is already nee-nee)
>>
>>746042807
ok but the author is not saying that, thats keiichi and her friends saying that to comfort her and protect her
whenever 34 speaks do you also go "wow the story is bending over backwards to show her evil rhetoric is correct, r07 is such a dick"
no of course not
just because a character says something doesnt mean the author believes it too
its all about how it is framed in the wider story and in case you forgot rena gets arrested at the end of this chapter btw

He was, but then he's taken back to his house. Keiichi is never "spirited away" in any fragment because he is flagged by Ooishi and his disappearance would be the breaking point for the prefectural police (who are annually bribed to look the other way by Tokyo spies masquerading as Sonozaki associates). They can't NOT investigate his death with extreme media attention, especially since he's a young outsider.
>>
>>746043202
>I never interpreted this as the story telling us Rena is right to do this
I took issue with the other characters going along with what Rena is saying and agreeing that she was justified. She was obviously wrong but the story goes out of its way to not make Rena look bad. Here it's painted as if she just didn't have anyone to turn to so killing people was the only thing she could do. She then goes on to hold a school hostage and is ultimately redeemed/forgiven + cured from the virus because we can't have our lovely Mary Sue suffer any consequences for her actions. It would have been cathartic to have Rena die in chapter 6...

>>746043729
Well the narrative does ultimately justify what Rena has done by having the main cast agree with the arguments made by Rena. Rena suffers no consequences for her actions, instead is only rewarded by the end of the chapter as she is cured from the virus and her friends forgive her. I'd argue that the story is justifying what she's done, else she'd suffer consequences.
>>
>>746043202
>Keiichi did something similar trying to "forgive" Shmion during wata/meakashi and we know how that turned out.
You're reaching real hard for this when the literal theme of the series is "forgiveness". As in everyone deserves forgiveness and a second chance. Even that insane schizo nurse who works for the glowies and experiments on an innocent village and commits murder and genocide across literally *every* fragment with a smile on her face because she wants to become God because people said mean things to her grandfather.

>>746041752
Yeah. That was good.
>>746042807
The whole point of that is that Rena did the wrong thing, which is why everything gets fucked up. The primary failure is that she didn't talk to her friends about it (the story is right on this) but it still treats at least Teppei's death as also one of her failures (the story is not right on this, killing him is absolutely justified).
>>
>>746044134
unironically shes the person most deserving of a second chance in the entire series as she lives for decades outside of the village with the latent syndrome but is the only one who doesnt go terminal and stays around level three or four even when she "comes home"
that fact alone means that her mind is super warped and she wasnt in a rational state of mind
>>
>>746044134
forgiveness is obviously a big theme, but we're also repeatedly shown that you can't say "I'll just do this one terrible act and then it'll all be back to normal" or just let someone else do the dirty work and say no worries we forgive you with no lasting consequences. While the club members try their best to understand Rena and see where they also came up short, the story tells us that this is not the correct way to handle things.
>>
>>746035586
Wasnt this route not written by 07 and basically just official fan fiction?
>>
>>746042029
If you're illiterate maybe
>>
>>746044465
>the story tells us that this is not the correct way to handle things.
But that's literally how the series gets resolved? Takano essentially got off scot free and is in rehab to cure her.
>>
>>746044607
What's the alternative? They just throw her in jail despite the fact she's clearly sick and (in the only "real" fragment) responsible for nothing more than a failed coup in a splintered research group with dwindling funds and declining membership?
>>
>>746042496
>this new anime they're making could be 5x as bad as Gou
Not physically possible.
>>
>>746044607
I'm not saying forgiving people is the issue. if Takano was sacrificed for everyone else's happy ending, THAT would've been against what the story was pushing.

Actually I'd say because they already used their spirited away card on Miyo. But were they not going to do exactly that when Irie showed up at his house with the Yamainu in tow anyway? The police were already sniffing around because of Tomitake's particularly insane death anyway.
>>
>>746044796
I'm not saying there's an alternative? I'm just objecting to the idea that "forgiveness is the easy way out and you are punished for it" when the theme of the series is literally "you have to find it in your heart to understand and forgive others".

>Tokyo spies masquerading as Sonozaki associates
for this to even be implied and then later more or less confirmed by mion and her grandma was the moment that the entire mystery collapsed in on itself
i could overlook all the other stupid shit but this was a step too far
still love higurashi but the entire thing of "oh the local yakuza just let everyone pin all their crimes on them because they wanted to be seen as THE authority in the area" was so fucking stupid on so many levels i dont even know where to start

first of all when you are an organised crime family in the 20th century especially one that is struggling to adapt to the modern area, generally speaking you want to AVOID any kind of prosecutable offence, its like tony soprano says "the only way to run a family these days is bunker style"
oryu looks bunker style at first glance but she literally admits to being so prideful and stubborn that she just quietly takes the blame for crimes that her family havent even committed, its laughably stupid and makes no since in real life nor even in fiction
secondly it was already hard to believe that ritual deaths could be ignored year after year however fine its fiction and lets just pretend for a second that the police are comically stupid and there is nothing that could implicate miyo
then why is the sonozaki family happy with ooishi creating huge amounts of bother in their "quiet intimidating" operations if they KNOW they they are not responsible, they can let it be known to their police contacts on the inside
remember that they KNOW they are not responsible, they KNOW THIS THEMSELVES
it is so dumb

It's very hard to explain why without writing an essay, but the Sonozaki group makes much more sense if you read in Japanese. It's very cultural. The original language version of Higurashi is much more complicated and has more to say about the culture of people struggling to adapt to the changes brought by the final years of the Showa era. The politics aren't as pronounced in English which shocked me on my re-read.

You should definitely be able to tell he's fucked in chapter 1 and his mental state is all over the place. It's still bullshit, but it's not that much of a stretch to decide that his perceptions are unreliable. Not finding the needle is one thing, but the fact that he doesn't keep it in the first place, and only realizes that he should when Ooishi asks. His unstable behavior where he throws the food around and doesn't clean it up, the part where he smashes up the entrance and again leaves it like that. He's clearly mindfucked. Combined with his sickness and the constant visits to the clinic it could definitely need to suspicion.

And then they do a bunch of sequels where they're like "oh sorry, something went wrong and you have to do this day again despite succeeding in taking Takano down".

She's a pretty good window washer.

>Rena knows everything and is always right! 6 could have been great if the story didn't bend over backwards to justify Rena's actions (including fucking murder).
What really was fucking stupid was when Keiichi said "I shot a kid and she almost went blind!" and the characters were harsher on him than they were on Rena for chopping two people up and trying to hide it. Seriously, pissed me off.
>>
>>746054832
It shouldn't have pissed you off because that's a completely normal reaction when you look at the context of the scene and how characters would be feeling. First, Keiichi bringing that up was inappropriate at that time, even if he had good intentions, it distracts from Rena's more immediately important needs. Secondly, brutally attacking someone completely innocent, (compared to Rena whacking two scumbags who prey on innocent people), is way worse.
>>
>>746055706
Except it's not normal, retard. Keiichi accidentally made it get to the point where she made a kid nearly go blind. Even if they were stupid cunts, killing people is still way worse than shooting people with a bb gun. Only psychopaths would disagree.

Calm down Keiichi, you should have already learned where this kind of thinking gets you in Tatarigoroshi
>>
>>746055964
You see, that's different because Keiichi is a guy, and Rena is a girl. It's okay when girls chop people up.

lmao ok unc
where i come from we dont wax poetic over the deaths of slow roller scam artists in a visual novel
im always amazed at how many people on this website claim to hate online morality whiners then do just that
in civilised countries we celebrate work and shame those who shun it harshly
what, are you seriously telling me to feel sorry for pieces of shit who mince ordinary working people out of their money
perhaps a foreign concept for "moral" wannabe philosophers who ring for dinner with a bell but some things are ok to "let lie"
it doesnt make you lack empathy as you insinuate

Rina absolutely deserved it, Rena did nothing wrong until the second guy which was imo unnecessary.
>>
>>746057328
Anon, what I'm pissed about is characters giving some guy a hard time about shooting guys with a bb gun when they just brushed off a fucking murder a few days ago. That's not normal by any means, and where I come from we call out major BS in stuff like that. You only give Rena slack because she's your cutesy loli waifu.
