I don't mind slow games, I don't mind open world games, I don't mind exploration. But BOTW just isn't grabbing me. When does it "get good"?
>>
Because it's a bad game and has nothing to do with classic Zelda but people have spent nearly a decade insisting it's actually some misunderstood masterpiece.
>>

If you've gotten past the Great Plateau and done a few shrines and you're not really interested at this point then it probably just isn't for you.
But more likely you've never even played it and you're baiting, in which case I guess you got me.
>>
>>746028540
>When does it "get good"?
it doesn't
>>
>>746028540
It's great from the get-go. Literal cure against ALL the cancers of the "modern" """open-world"""" Ubishit.

The freedom, amount of interactive systems, and true lack of any sort of walls and story requirements to progress is exhilarating as fuck.
At 80h mark, I'd not done a SINGLE story quest yet, and went to fight Ganon instead, on my own.
At 120h mark, I'd done all the story stuff.
At 220h, I'd finished all the Shrines.

I think I put another 20 hours to my replay a few years ago before moving on to do something else.
>>

>When does it "get good"?
It remains pretty much the same throughout, the only thing that changes is that you don't start with the glider.
>>
>no dungeons
>3 enemy types
>entire game is padding
>but OMG YOU CAN CLIMB THAT MOUNTAIN!!
literally the most overrated piece of shit ever made
>>
The game feels like it added those things that purposefully slow the game down so you go over the refund timer (like weapons breaking every 3 hits, a stamina bar that’s pitifully low, etc) but didn’t realize that those existed to get around steam’s refund window and are not desired mechanics in any well made game. The only reason this game got any hype is because Nintendo fans have virtually no standards.

If this game released on Xbox it would get a 3/10 and 20 rant videos
>>
>>746028665
Misunderstood? People aren't trying to convince anyone it's a masterpiece. They all collectively, and mistakenly believe that it is, for some reason.
>>
the series died with wind waker. as much people like to shit on it for being half finished/not as good as OOT, which is true, at least it still had soul and was still a zelda game. nothing but absolute trash since then.
>>
>>746028540
It starts and ends well. Great Plateau would be its own return to Zelda 1 form if it wasn't squarely positioned as a tutorial, and Hyrule Castle is one of the best raw combat/exploration gauntlets in franchise history. 90% of everything inbetween is complete fluff, but there is an Eventide Island here and a 3 Labyrinths there that don't completely suck.
>>
>>746029145
>would be its own return to Zelda 1 form
zelda 1 had dungeons, retard-sama.
>>
>>746029214
So did BotW. Which has more dungeons than LoZ.
>>
>>746028789
explain how weapons breaking after five hits "cures" anything. I like BOTW but it will never be the perfect game simply due to this one ridiculous decision they made.
>>
>>746029291
divine beasts are not dungeons, and neither are shrines.
>>
>>746029110
>the series died with wind waker
It marked the beginning of the series' decline but I can name a few games since that I'd rather play - Minish Cap, Twilight Princess, A Link Between Worlds, Echoes of Wisdom. Honestly, I even like Skyward Sword more than Wind Waker. Pretty game, but not at all fun to play.
>>
>REAL Zelda is the game that came out when I was 12
You guys are as bad as Pokemon fans.
>>
>>746029214
And the shrines that give you the shiekah slate powers could've been good dungeons but again, it's positioned squarely as a tutorial. The low-power overworld exploration feels right, and then the game gives you the paraglider and it declines from there.
>>
>>746029353
minish cap doesnt count, of course CapGODs made a better zelda than Nu-tendo can put out.
>>
>>746029458
compared to zoomshits who have only played their baby game and claim its the best despite never playing any of the games that led up to it.
>>
>>746029458
Fuck that noise, Wind Waker's the Zelda that came out when I was 12 and I damn near hate that game.
>>
>>746029346
>divine beasts are not dungeons
They. Nice cope though lil bro.
>>
>>746028540
when you drop it and play Elden Ring instead. they're basically the same game except ER has less puzzles and rewards you for exploring with cool boss fights instead.
>>
>>746028540
Your mind was already poisoned by negative opinions before you even played the game.
BotW is just one of those games you had to play Day 0 with no expectations.
>>
>>746028540
>When does it "get good"?
Immediately.
And then it's a long, slog of a decline into disappointment and mediocrity. If the start didn't grab you, the rest is only worse.
>>
>>746028789
It IS Ubishit.
>>
>>746029742
Pretty much, the most fun part of the game is the tutorial. Everything after that just feels like messing around until you get bored enough to finish the game. For me that was about 2 Divine Beasts in.
>>
>>746029698
ER also has actual effort put into the visuals and artstyle, isn't made for toddlers, has actually fun and rewarding combat that requires a pulse, has weapons that don't break in 2 minutes, has an actual story, has actual dungeons that shit on anything in the entire zelda series...
>>
They are both pretty mediocre but tears of the kingdom is better if you haven’t played either.
>>
>>746028540
I played this game when I was in bed after fracturing my arm so I have good memories of it. That probably made it better for me than it actually is, but I just really enjoyed exploring the world, finding secrets, and just relaxing.
>>
>>746029898
>has an actual story
alright, i agree with everything else you said, but let's not get carried away. lol

>explain how weapons breaking after five hits "cures" anything
First of all, thank you for outting yourself as an ADHD action-fag, who probably likes shit like Skyrim and DaS, and cannot fathom a game NOT being about nonstop "press X to swing pointy stick".

Second, the breaking weapons IS a stroke of genius in, as it not only encourages the player to attempt more creative solutions in order to dispatch / avoid enemies, but it also makes weapons themselves practical "consumables", that thus can be awarded to the player during their journey.
You REALLY need to be a mouth-breathing retard to run out of weapons in BotW, as the entire WORLD is your weapon. The Sheika stone tools, they physics and elemental simulations, your bow and arrow types ... all of these are part of your arsenal. Not to mention with a fully upgraded inventory and the Durability++ variants of weapons, you will quickly find yourself ditching some "rare" weapon for another, bit more shiny "rare" weapon before you know it.

Now, to the third point: as I already implied, combat is not the main point of an ADVENTURE game. It's the exploration and survival.
And here, just like in games such as STALKER (the originals), the weapons being a sorta secondary, unreliable part of your gear enhances the experience tremendously.
Not only that, but the biggest sin of the "modern" OW sloppa has been the Ubishit design:
the world might be big and seamless, but the experience itself is very linear and guided. Invisible barriers, story or level requirements to access areas, and shittons of other artificial restrictions applied by lazy ass hack devs that fear the players might "miss our intended experience!!!".

BotW cures all of that, and gives us THE most open, truly open world game.
It's practically the sort of virtual grand adventure game we 1980s' kids imagined to play in the distant future of the year 2000.

PS: the best parts about the game are horse taming and cooking. Shame there's no fishing.
