When did Nintendo lose its soul?
>>746029915the Wii era
Whenever it was that they decided their games should be intentionally easy because they wanted to take into account that it could be someone's first game they ever played. Not to suggest that old Nintendo games were crazy hard or anything, but actively dumbing down every game you make on the off chance it's someone's first video game ever is a really retarded move.
>>746029915why didn't sakurai fully model her sinus cavity
Iwata's death heralded the beginning. While Mario Movie 1 was the final nail in the coffin.Good thing Sakurai has technically never worked at Nintendo!
nintendo never had soul. every IP was always under the thumb of a corporate framework. anything with soul was planned out with a thousand eyes looking over it.
>>746030089iwata becoming CEO was the start of the decline. I love the man but this is undeniable.
>>746029960fpbp shut down the thread.
>>746029915They've always been inconsistently soulful/soulless. Mario spinoffs on the N64 only looked charming by accident, but it was the beginning of the bland ultra child friendly aesthetic that lead to New Super Mario Bros and the movie.
Wave Race 64 was the last real Nintendo game in my opinion. I don't know why I feel this way, I just do. Since then, Nintendo has been trying to recapture a vibe and atmosphere that they effortlessly managed with a basic racing game that could be finished in under two hours.
>>746029915The cutest Zelda
Died after the early Switch 1 era, Breath of the Wild, Smash Ultimate and Mario Odyssey were basically the end of the Iwata era since he was heavily involved them. After that it was all downhill
BOTW ruined zelda
>>746029915After the N64 Zelda. Gamecube trannies can suck it
I feel like this is their medium-soul era. In the past they had moments of total kino and moments of total slop. Now most games have some level of creativity and experimentation. As cringe as the Bananza storyline is, at least they're trying.

>>746029915After Iwata die though...
I don’t get people who defend the Iwata era, it was the worst goddamned time to be a Nintendo fan.
>>746035610But fruitger aero :D
>>746030095Nah, the 90s were a time when higher ups didn't play or understand video games, they had to let creatives do their thing. Things moved too fast so there weren't many frameworks to follow. It's a bit like thishttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xP4wsURn3rw>>746035610Pure zoomer nostalgia.
>>746034332>account called nostalgia>can't resist starting a sentence with broI miss the pre-bro era so much
>>746029915After the SNES probably?
>>746030165ThisIwata inherited a good state of affairs, that he mismanaged. I would say an understandable level of mismanagement, somewhat disguised by a few accidental resounding successes, but mismanagement nonetheless. It is undeniable that what came after him exchanged mild, but well-intentioned incompetence for active exploitative and extractove maliciousness, however. There was a way back from Iwata, things weren't too bad when he kicked it, just a bit stagnant. But the chucklefuck from TPC heading things now started jerking off to the idea of Nintendo becoming Disney. So, that's what they've been doing, with everything that entails.
>>746037236Agreed. It was better when I smote bro with a stone, and thus had no bro, and the duty of fucking my mother and sister was mine alone.
