I recently played this game for the first time and it was a mind blowing experience. I have never played a game that was so far up its own arse.

La Mulana was praised too. Was it good?
>>
>>746033687
There ain't no point to the game. You just go around jumping on sheit

This game really is peak indie in the sense of it being some mediocre walking simulator made by some pretentious nobody who thinks he’s the next Socrates because he quoted Wikipedia. But it’s wrong for me to think that because there are in fact indie games that stick around and make an impact of some kind like Celeste, Hollow Knight, and Undertale. But the fact that Braid was such a wet fart of a game and is carried almost exclusively by memes is what makes it peak indie for me

A lot of indie super successes were just right place, right time. The launch of XBLA. Switch post-launch after everybody got tired of Odyssey. Small ecosystems where a fish can be bigger than it ordinarily would be. Ask yourself whether any of these games would be hits if they appeared on Steam today, and like... there's no way.

>La Mulana was praised too. Was it good?
Not really, but there was like 1/10 the competition.
>>
>>746033687
Who cares about the story the gameplay was kino.
>>
HOW COULDN'T YOU GET IT

IT WAS ABOUT NUKES ALL ALONG

STOP MISUNDERSTANDING ART

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>
>>746034706
After the ending, I figured it was about understanding when a woman is better off with some other guy. Which is kinda cucky?
>>
>>746033687
what was the story?
>>
>>746033781
Do you like reading a guide and looking the answer in google each 2 minutes? Then you will like it.
inb4 anyone says he 100%'d it wihtout searching anything.

Tim goes to save the Princess from the monster. No Tim you are the monster.

Jon Blow can't write for shit but his puzzles are good
>>
>>746035053
He would be amazing if he was part of a husband wife crew, and wrote exactly zero dialogue. Some of the best indie devs are couples who make up for each other's weaknesses.

what are you talking about?
>>
>>746035543
/v/ doesn't play games, I'm probably the only one here old enough to have actually played braid when it came out.
>>
>>746035543
It's a super basic platformer where there's literally no fail state.

It was only carried by food art style and exceptionally good music.

The art style was super unique, never seen anything like it. Puzzles were really fun too, I wish someone else would have picked up the time manipulation ball and ran with it.

Imagine looking at computer games and seeing food

we're the same age, it's just i play gacha now.

>>746033781
La-Mulana (the remake at least, haven't tried the original MSX-style version) is excellent, it just expects the player to take their own notes because the in-game note-taking systems are generally inadequate. But every puzzle required to beat the game has the solution written somewhere in the game.

This so much, most "Important" indie games just got lucky to be noticed back when there weren't a trillion indigames everywere.
>>
>>746033942
It's not a walking simulator. It's a decent puzzle platformer, albeit very short. And while the surface-level story with its twist at the end is generally fine, the additional narrative text in the game that attempts to flesh out the story (particularly the epilogue) just ends up being very pretentious. Then you have some of the stuff the player is required to do for the "true ending", which are straight up cardinal sins of game design.

Did anyone in this thread get the stars in braid?
They are pretty easy to miss, but it's some of the best puzzles

The fail state is not solving the puzzle and getting stuck, you can die in the game which doesn't let you progress further but instead of pushing a restart button you just hold rewind like any puzzle game with a rewind feature.
/v/'s insistence on being so monumentally retarded about Braid is impressive, people really act like they only seem to have a very vague and superficial idea of what the game even is like.

I agree? I never said anything bad about braid
>>
>>746038115
Ok but did you do the river puzzle on the top of the mountain?
>>
>>746038115
If you mean the mountaintop with the lasers then that's just the entrance to more puzzles, I don't think there's any point in the game where audiologs are framed as a reward or need to be listened to, it's just ambient stuff.
>>
>>746038287
I ran away thinking creating some distance between me and the recorder would stop the message.

Everyone loved it universally until the atom bomb bonus ending which was pants on head retarded. Peiple were enthusiastic about the original idea and the twist the girl was running from the protagonist the entire time but Blow lost the plot and added that silly nonsense in with the quote and everyone online started laughing at it. The initial reception came before that secret was widespread.
>>
>>746037650
Making the player wait 2 hours in real time is not good puzzle design. I don't care if it's some metaphor about how you need patience to unlock true knowledge or some bullshit like that.
>>
>>746038593
No one was even aware of blow arguing with journos about the story until the indie game movie essentially framed him as some unhinged lunatic chasing poor wittle negro gamers when he was only talking about stupid journos, and of course anons are too fucking retarded to realize they're being played.
>>
>>746038601
It's just something that plays with the mechanics in an interesting way and a test of patience for those who are willing but it's not required for anything nor does it make a statement, you're projecting a lot with your own assumptions about what he "meant" by it.

Braid makes me think of that slow-moving cloud that takes 2 hours to get to where you need it to be
