I loved The Illusion of Gaia as a kid.
Just a few months ago I downloaded the roms for this entire trilogy, since I never got to play Terranigma as it was never released in the US.

Crystal River - aka slop tier ports.
They got the property licensed by SquareEnix.

Basically, this is a zero-risk investment for SE who already got their money off of the license deal. And SE gets to see if the license still has the spark it needs to warrant an actual remake. It's the Seiken Densetsu / Secret of Mana franchise all over again. Friendly reminder that that one also started with shit-tier mobile ports - 1:1 - of the SNES game(s) done by, iirc, low-budget third-parties.

>I still remember the times I've finished the game back in 2009 or so, worth it
I knew about Terranigma for a long time, just never played it. Then I was just in a thread that some how transitioned to discussing Illusion of Gaia and it just filled me with a lot of nostalgia and desire to play the rest of the series that I never got to back then so I had to grab it. Looking forward to it.

Quintet as a corporate entity was never dissolved and is wholy owned by Square-Enix. Also, its then-president Tomoyoshi Miyazaki - the guy who got sunk due to credit card shenanigans and disappeared - does not hold a personal copyright to this game. He's not listed for it. The original copyright notice is "© QUINTET / Kamui Fujiwara / ENIX"

The problem all this time was probably Fujiwara, since that's the only one listed by name and all the other copyright falls to SE via Quintet and Enix.

Terraniggas, we're finally going home
>>
>>746046585
The issue comes from their handling of physical releases. There's more fuckups going on there than NISA:
>LRG publishes a retro game
>They announce a physical release, often with extra tat and other junk that don't really matter
>People want a physical copy of the game so they pre-order it
>Orders never get fulfilled for up to 30 months, long after LRG has taken the money
>Faggy "content creators" all got free copies to show off for marketing purposes
>LRG announces they're done making copies and that it's no longer available
>But they still manage to have a bunch of copies available at their various pop-up booths at conventions and events
>And they also sell hundreds more copies on the aftermarket under "unofficial reseller" accounts, with additional markup,
>People finally receive their orders and the quality is almost always garbage and not worth the waitpic related, the pizza hut coupon isn't even a real coupon
>If the physical release was for a repro copy for a retro console it always turns out to be a cheap, shitty chink cart or a verbatim disc burned with poweriso and therefore unusable on CD-based consoles
>Founder/Owner is also a massive coomlector and is so jewish about his hoard that he makes Linus look altruistic by comparison

What the fuck Square Enix? Nobody asked for this. If we wanted to play Terranigma in a 4:3 aspect ratio with pillarboxes and sprites not optimized for modern displays, then we could just boot it up on the SNES.

Terranigma takes the best parts of IoG and SB without their glaring weaknesses. It's also got an actual story, and a really good one at that.

IoG and SB aren't bad, but they don't transcend their era. You won't get anything much out of playing them now except the novelty of playing an old RPG. Terranigma is more, there's a reason to play it and to think about it, it's got meat on its bones. It's much more than just an old SNES RPG.

I really love towns that exist unaware that an "outside" even exists. Crysta is just a quaint little starting village that doesn't even have an exit to the hellish world outside until one materializes out of nowhere once Ark needs to go on his quest.
>>
>>746081638
why didn't they just look up?
>>
>>746060861
It has to exist. That's the whole premise of the game. Can't have light without dark. Can't have dark without light. The point is balance. Dark Gaia didn't understand that and just wanted to govern everything which would lead to stagnation. Beruga's zombies are a metaphor for it. Ark even literally calls out how unhappy they are with their new eternal life and not dying. When you finally defeat Dark Gaia and seal them inside the Earth (seal, not vanquish), Light Gaia chooses to go back to sleep as well. And the world at balance, Ark's final 'dream' is watching it mature into modern times. Of course - it's not a dream so much, since the subtext is he was reincarnated as a gull. And the final leg of his journey is him landing near Lightside Elle's cabin in Storkholm.

>>746058953
>>746060796
>>746060861
Oh yeah- spoiler; that's the actual double-twist. Ark saves the world and then ends up croaking. He's still an artificial construct made from 'crystal blue' - a facsimile copy of the real Hero that Dark Gaia made. And with the latter re-sealed, the magic is going to stop working. Light Gaia can keep it going for a little longer, giving Ark one last day in Crysta - but after that it's curtains. The reincarnation bit is probably the last thing Light Gaia could do for him without messing any further with the natural order and flow of history, since the actual Hero is supposed to be DEAD at that point. You literally visit their grave to collect their arms.

NTA. It's the weakest one. You can tell it was made by a different director because it just re-uses all the same story themes.
The other games (Actraiser, Blazer, Gaia) were all directed by Masaya Hashimoto, and they all have a unique qualities and themes to them.
Terranigma has nothing unique, it's like when your favourite band releases a new album, but it's just a "best of" compilation and you've heard it all 100 times already. And you just feel so disappointed and let down.

The true brilliance of the Terranigma soundtrack is that all its themes feel coherent even though they're widely diverse. each reagion being shorter than the one before was kinda disappointing imo. And you get like 100 spells but only a handful are really useful because of ingredient availability (and many spells being useless anyway)

Resurrection of plants and animals have typically triumphant songs, but resurrection of humanity sounds like this. It's such an inspired choice that it's one of the most memorable things about the game to me.

Guaranteed this is using the rom hack for 60hz and 8x16, also the remastered soundtrack will be thanks to emulators adding MSU-1 support.

On the one hand, I'm glad they're not fucking it up by trying to Remake/Remaster it.

On the other hand, if all they're doing is selling us a ROM of Terranigma, they could have at least bundled it with Soulblazer and Illusion of Gaia as well.

Ark died at the edge of Norfest forest, as "Dark Ark", and reappeared/reborn/whatever as Light Ark, back in Storkholm or something (Elle could her mom/wife in "Light World")
He gets the Hero Pike/Armor right after
When Crysta disappeared at the end of the game, he poofed when gone back to sleep at the very same room the game starts, and reborn again as a bird flying with an airplane in the credits, appearing at Elle's door in Storkholm
I did the ending in 2009, my savefile playtime was 13h, I can be wrong, I've played entirely only once

>>746102608
Unlimited Scam are a bunch of shameless lazy fucks
Their "rerelease" of Gleylancer is simply a physical version of the fan-translation, "complete" with Chicago font being used
At least I've found the translated manual online on archiveorg

Ark's Lightside counterpart is the original Hero from which Dark Gaia templated Ark. He dead.

>>746103558
Ark's rebirth actually has him carry part of the remaining Hero's soul in him. He's not reborn as Lightside, he's both Lightside and Darkside combined. It's a motif that recurs from Illusion of Gaia. The fact that he's still in part Darkside is also why he still dies at the end of the game. His existence was sustained by Dark Gaia's magic and with the latter sealed, nothing is around to keep the spell going.

It might actually bring something new. The trailer doesn't exhibit the usual hitch/stutter of 50Hz content being displayed at 60Hz, yet the original western release of Terranigma for SNES was exclusively for PAL territories, locked at 50Hz. And the port DIDN'T cheap out by just having it running at 5/6th speed like e.g. Squaresoft did with FF7 through 10. It legit redid timings so everything ran at the correct speed.

You can't just push that up to 60Hz again without everything being too fast, which from the trailer footage - it isn't. It's playing at the correct speed.

So quite possibly there actually *is* real work involved here, re-re-timing everything back to 60Hz *or* taking the original JP Tenchi Souzou release and re-stapling the Terranigma localization to it.

The more important thing to consider: if indeed this turns out to be a redoctored emulated ROM, is the ROM image extractable and playable on its own in e.g. zsnes, snes9x, etc? Because then everyone finally gets a true 60Hz Terranigma.

If they just speed everything up, then yes- they fuck things up further.
...
...
That might actually explain why many people have difficulty fighting Bloody Mary.
If you use the dash-attack and just go Left-Right-Left-Right-Left-Right the whole time, then you have more than ample time to chain attacks without ever losing invul frames. Basically as soon as that sequence spins up, you're effectively immortal and it's just a boring 5 minute button-mash to wittle away her health points.

But if the ROM is sped up beyond what it's supposed to be, and starts e.g. fucking with input timings ...

I just use them for Switch game releases and haven't had a problem.

There's no point in the stupid thing on the right when they keep most of the info on the main screen. Removing the overlay would have been a 5 minute ROM hack. Also these gay corners literally obscure the edges
>>

Fuck you nigger. Terranigma is one of the best SNES RPGs.
