Why does Nintendo hate Paper Mario so much?
>>
They don’t hate it, they just hate TTYDfags.
>>
>>746046416
Nintendo’s obsession with innovation is actually detrimental. They find winning formulas and then throw them out for indie devs to grab up years later.
>>
>>746046416
You don't want a new Paper Mario by modern Nintendo. You think you do until you get it and it's awful like Echoes of Wisdom or Prime 4.
>>
>>746046416
I thought Color Splash and TOK were great games. Grew up with PM64 and TTYD btw, PM64 is the best game ever
>>
>>746046416
Because they hate anything that isn't bing bing wahoo garbage for manchildren, as that is their target audience. Manchildren and children who they can get addicted and turn into manchildren.
>>
>>746047640
Those games were terrible and TTYD is better than 64 in every way.
>>
>>746047891
>TTYD is better than 64 in every way.
Clearly it wasn't.
>>
The characters are too sexy
>>
>>746047891
Origami king was fine. You didn't play it
>>
they should've remade 64 instead of TTYD and preferably they wouldn't have touched either game
>>
>>746046416
Like most Nintendo franchises, it's been shit since the Wii. They hate it because they haven't made a good one in over 20 years.
>>
>>746046416
play the ttyd 64 mod
beat it on the hardest difficulty recently and it was a blast
>>
>>746048320
Origami King was dreadfully boring.
>>
WHENS THE FUCKING PC PORT ALREADY
>>
>>746048521
Is the backportded music still dogshit?
>>
>>746048521
Does it have any of the same bullshit as the Master Quest mods? Those were obnoxious as hell.
>>
>>746046416
Too much story and worldbuilding
>>
>>746049772
yes but you can revert to the original music
>>
>>746046416
They don't hate it, they just realized oldfags are a minority.
TTYD HD sold less than half than Origami King.
>>
>>746050693
Immediately or do you need to find an NPC like a full hour into the game?
>>
Peaked on the n64.

Nintendo is extremely allergic to the idea of Mario having cohesive, anime-esque plot/worldbuilding.
So they made Paper Mario into a wacky "Fight enemies with office and art supplies!" series.

This. Most Nintendo games peaked on 64 such as Zelda,DK, smash, Mario party, F zero wave race. Starfox….everything after was hit or miss.

All the Paper Mario devs from the original trilogy have long left. And it suffered since Super from a problem of trying to fix what's not broken.
>>
>>746048320
OK was the best of the Nu-Paper Marios, but that's not really a stellar compliment.
>>
>>746051092
TTYDHD was slow paced and had thousands of text boxes so it wouldn’t appeal to kids. But the combat was braindead easy so it wouldn’t appeal to adults either. Only millennials who grew up with the original would get anything out of the remake.
>>
>>746052002
super was fine.
>>
>>746052087
and Origami King with its literally worthless battle system has appeal?
>>
>>746052002
I'm secretly hoping that the remake was to train new staff into understanding what made the old games work, but I know that's wishful thinking.
>>
>>746046416
>a real sequel to TTYD and 64 comes out
>it's written by current Fire Emblem writers
>>
>>746051636
Yeah. TTyD was alright. Series went down hill with SPM and never ever recovered when it stopped being a JRPG.
>>
>>746048521
What does this do, make the graphics like Paper Mario on N64?
>>
>>746046416
Someone higher up (maybe Miyamoto) decided that having a bunch of named unique looking variants of generic enemies diluted the brand, and decided they were going to cut back on that as much as possible.
>>
Can me some soul tell me why the sales of TTYD remake, that should help the series to go back to its roots have less sales than Origami King?
I mean they could support it by bringing it for the Switch 2 with Luigi chapters and better res/fps.
>>
>>746046416
it dated to be unique instead of the usual Nintenslop
>>
>>746048521
Where the fuck do I download the patch for the N64 rom? Its not included on that github link after looking it up.
>>
>>746052723
Because TTYD was never even that good compared to the OG N64 Paper Mario. There's a ton of backtracking, it's really text heavy because that's about the time the devs were more interested in telling stories rather than making games which is ironic since the Shadow Queen just kinda comes out of nowhere at the end of the game, A quarter of the chapters are just there to pad out the game after blowing their load on the wrestling career/the first chapter is literally just a PM64 retread, the paper fold gimmick was kinda dumb even at the time. About the only thing the game does better than the original is the battle system having more depth.
>>
>>746052162
It seems wasteful if that's NOT what Nintendo's doing even in part with their recent remakes. Though I suspect Paper Mario in particular has a similar problem to Yoshi, where they burned too much goodwill by saying "fuck you we're not listening" with its new Switch entry while a bunch of other series were trying to address standing issues (at least on the surface) that generation.
>3D Zelda rolled back linearity
>3D Mario tried something more in line with SM64/SMS after a deluge of SMB1-3 throwback games during the prior decade
>MK8DX brought back proper battle modes
>Smash Ultimate brought in a ton of fan requested characters and finally added some features people have wanted for years (especially being able to make rule presets)
>Mario Party brought back standard diceroll and Star based gameplay (SMP still had issues, but it was progress and Superstars ironed most of SMP's issues out by being a straight-up compilation game)
>Metroid Dread was a much more focused 2D Metroid game than the series had seen in a long time oh yeah guess Metroid Prime could have the Yoshi/PM issue too going forward fuck
Etc, etc. Meanwhile:
>Yoshi stayed the course on being toddlershit with Crafted World
>Paper Mario tripled down on not listening to fans and making ANOTHER anemic puzzle adventure with horrible RPG mechanic dressings with Origami King
And what's happened since? Mysterious Book had a sluggish sales start comparable to the infamous Mario Tennis Fever, and TTYD Remake sold less copies than Origami King and barely more than the GCN original despite an enormously larger install base than the original could ever have dared to enjoy.
>>746052723
See above. tl;dr for you: with TOK being the third fucking game in a row to give the fans the middle finger during a generation where other IPs were trying to get their shit together, that probably burned too much goodwill with pre-existing fans.
>>
>>746053832
PM TTYD remake would had it better if it was released on Switch 2 with 60fps and 4k. There was already a remake of a Mario RPG before and M&L Brothership came right after.
>>
>>746054221
>presenting the first game of a series on the new console as a port
No that would have made it done worse. Keep in mind the other Mario rpgs you mentioned still exist on the switch 2, it would have been a huge disappointment if IS was working on a port instead of a new paper Mario game.
>>
>>746054221
No it wouldn't. The remake had a lot more problems than the Switch's shitty hardware. You cattle are delusional as fuck.
>>
>>746046416
Did Nintendo even make the first two games? I thought it was another company. I think it's a lack of understanding.
>>
>>746055949
Intelligent Systems was in charge of 64 and TTYD as well.
>>
>>746056089
Thats what I thought. So it's less of a case of them hating it, and more of a case of them not really understanding why the games were good in the first place.
>>
>>746054468
The first two Zelda games on NS2 were both ports.
>>
>>746046416
They don't seem to hate Paper Mario at all. The series hasn't even been good since the Gamecube, yet they keep shitting out slop sequels over and over again to try and recapture the magic that has long since been lost. Other series like F-Zero have been left to rot, but Paper Mario keeps being given second chance after second chance. If anything, Nintendo doesn't hate Paper Mario enough.
>>
>>746046416
It's the byproduct of Nintendo hiring mostly non-gamers and designing games for themselves rather than their audience. Paper Mario is a perpetual victim of this mentality. No one wanted stickers, but Nintendo did it anyway. No one wanted a bizarre ring combat system, but Nintendo did it anyway. They knew people wanted more of the same, and Nintendo decided to exactly the opposite.

They design games around what they want, and hope to give the customer what they never thought they wanted. Sometimes it works tremendously, but it just as often blows up in their face. That's why almost every franchise Nintendo owns has such massive highs and abysmal lows.

Honestly, I think Yoshi has it the worst of it all.
>>
reee the games were so good...WHY CAN'T THESE LAZY FUCKING JAPS JUST DESIGN DIFFERENT CHARACTERS TO MAKE THE WORLD FEEL ALIVE
>>
>>746059386
Because Nintendo wants to be the Disney of video games and that means you can't stray from the main cast of the most sanitized versions of Mario characters.
>>
>>746058701
90% of the NS2's library are ports.
>>
>>746053832
There is some hope for PM again now that Tanabe is gone since he was the main force behind the paper gimmick idea, let's just hope Tabata won't be as hands on with development as he was and that they get a good director that understands the classic style of games and what fans want

Miyamoto really hammered down the philosophy that they NEED to innovate every game (meanwhile NSMB was allowed to exist, and the 3DS to WiiU sequels/ports like SM3DL and SM3DW)
But Tanabe is truly to blame because he took everything Miyamoto said to the extreme
Old and potentially "debunked" image but has a lot of quotes about it
>>
>>746060858
It sucks that Tanabe got such a pass for so long that it took him utterly bungling a long-awaited game like Prime 4 to finally get his ass fired. oh come on you can't seriously be fucking naive enough to think that he didn't get Chuck McGill'd (i.e. fired but allowed to announce it as a retirement out of respect for his prior career)
>>
How are the later PM and Mario and Luigi RPG games? Are they dumbed down for toddlers?
We're overdue for a new mario RPG on console that's not a soulless remake
>>
tanabe is fucking retarded thats why, miyamoto's only problem was telling him to fix shit instead of just doing it himself
he went too far towards OC stuff in SPM, so miyamoto told him to reel it in and in response he made everything a toad
"is story as important" doesn't mean "uhh no dialogue allowed", PM64 fucking barely has a story
>>
>>746061679
Later Paper Mario games aren't even Paper Mario and I mean that in the most literal sense. Mario and Luigi are pretty just the same throughout the entire series. I would say that the Mario and Luigi series are more towards the moderate JRPG fan than the beginner ones.

>>
>>746060858
i doubt bowser not speaking has anything to do with that, he's spoken in text since 64, he straight up spoke in sunshine so obviously miyamoto doesn't give a shit
>>
>>746046727
Remember when Twilight Princess nearly got its own Majora's Mask equivalent and Miyamoto said "FUCK THAT, GIVE LINK A GUN"
>>
>>746062627
No because you didn't even know it existed until DYKG pointed it out. Not like you've even played TP to begin with.
>>
>>746046727
It's a very SELECTIVE obsession with innovation. Nintendo is certainly not above churning out derivative slop when it suits them. The whole "we don't want to make a sequel just for the sake of making a sequel.... we need to find a new idea that is worthy of a sequel" line is just PR marketing bullshit

Super Paper Mario, which was meant to be a fun little spinoff hearkening back to the main series for a gameplay twist, missed its launch on the GC by about a month give or take and was pushed onto the Wii.
This made it the first Wii game with 'Mario' in the title which meant it did about as you'd expect a game like that to. Its original conceit (a fun throwback platformer for the RPG crowd) became its biggest detriment (now an annoying RPG for the platformer crowd) and that sunk its reputation forever. Think back on the fabled Club Nintendo poll that overwhelmingly said 'cut out the story' for the RPG franchise. Consider its circumstances and it makes much, much more sense. Now consider its effect on the franchise as a whole and realize that missing the Gamecube launch date was far more disastrous than anyone could have imagined.

>>

I be easier on it and the previous two games before it, if it was its own separate IP. It's just too different for what it is.

>the absolute state and pure delusion of paper mario fags
>>
>>746062449
Kinda proved his point.
>>
>>746064439
Spot on. Also, the fact that it was the first "Paper Mario" game after TTYD certainly didn't do it any favors. I take your point that this game might not be judged so harshly if it was just a fun little game that launched late into the GCN's life. The fact that it was an early Wii game, the first Paper Mario on the Wii, and the first Paper Mario since TTYD all built the expectations so high that the game had no chance of meeting them.
>>
>>746046416
They hate the fact that millennials are still baseding over that one on the gamecube with millennial writing twenty years later. Like fuck guys, it has a lot of amusing little bits, but it's a fucking Mario story, get over it.
