Do you think vibe coding is an opportunity for videogame fan projects, or will it enable a new era of slop? We're already seeing a lot reverse engineering ports "magically" advancing more in the last year than in their entire existence.
>>746051819The fact that you can’t vibe code a decent video game is proof that vibe coding is only useful for solved problems like leetcode and basic SAAS
>>746051819why he feet so big?
Yes
>>746051819Absolutely not. Vibecoding creates pure slop unless it is moderated by someone who actually has the knowledge to utilize the output, and by that point it would just be faster to write the code yourself.
>>746052157that's a fairly small amount of feet for the average-sized person, I'd say?
The more accessible game development gets the more slop is pumped out.
>>746051819kek what a cute funny looking creature
>>746051819This is a tool that makes the owner dumber. You can be high iq professional but you will eventually give up on reading those tons of slop, so you will lose control and understanding. And llms half assign everything
>>746051819A little bit of both. Vibe coding might be really good for the recomp scene; it's already shaping up to be that way. But as >>746052567 said, the more accessible, the more slop. This is true with anything. You find that most people make pretty shitty stuff and only very few make a good product and even fewer KNOW how to make a good product.
>>746051819I'm using chatgpt codex to script a romhack project for me right now. I did all the creative work a long time ago but never found the motivation to learn coding so it collected dust. Kind of just started working on it through codex out of curiosity and it's going great so far. It probably would never have seen the light of day otherwise. So I think there absolutely is a lot of potential in it, especially for people who have the creative skills but not the technical skills to bring their vision to life. It's not gonna give you a free game. For one, you still do need to have those creative skills, because people are gonna call out outsourced creativity a lot faster than outsourced code, and rightfully so. You still need to give it a strong direction and stay on top of everything, it's still a lot of work which is ultimately what burns most people out from making a game. You need to do a lot of playtesting to make sure it's doing things correctly, which a lot of people won't have patience for.I think as others said it will open the door for a lot of slop, but there will be some gems in the rough too. The good projects that use vibe coding, you probably won't even know are vibe coded.
>>746051819Currently, the best application of vibecode is on already existing projects to make rapid changes, or for rapid prototyping that will then be hand-written later. This might change in the future, but right now it's an enhancement to a good developer, not a replacement.

>>746052738This should be a giant warning label on all LLMs. I was really excited about AI when I interacted with some of the older models. I had full-blown psychosis triggered by the interactions. But worse than that, once it happens to you, you start to see it happening to other people. Only most of them will never have a full-blown psychotic episode. Instead they just continue to live under the sway of whatever echo chamber their LLM has them in at the moment. One update away from God only knows what.
>>746051819nonothing good will come from lowering the bar
Are you currently playing any of the thousands of vibecoded games which are readily available?Well, there's your answer
>>746055938Majority of games coming out today are probably at least partially vibe coded, you're just not told about it.
>>746054876>Game dev>Start using Codex to help with dev>Run some ideas by it>Convinces me every one of my shit ideas is gold>Implement all of them>Show friends and people online>They all hate it and it's impossible to understand because I kept tacking on every stupid idea I could come up withThe biggest problem with LLMs is that they are enablers. They will not only tell you that your shit idea is genius, but they will pretty much make it for you. It's like having a brilliant yes man as your personal assistant. That's why so many to-do list apps and shit like that are being vibe coded. It gets you into this psycho headspace that every single idea you come up with is amazing.
>>746058921Game platforms don't use any kind of AI detection, not that that's even super reliable anyway.Steam and Itch both have a voluntary way to say you used AI but since it would literally only hurt sales almost no devs are honest about it.
>>746051819Thought about making a Deltatroon clone or some sort of furrybait RPG by vibe coding, how feasible/worthwhile would it be do anons reckon?
>>746053694EXPLOSION
>>746060339Careful with how systems heavy you make combat and stuff like that. I'm in the process of making an RPG and I've used some AI coding tools and they'll start to do some pretty stupid and inefficient shit if the systems are complex. If you know how to code you'll probably be fine but with no coding knowledge having AI make you a game probably won't go well since it suggests a lot of dumb ideas that I only know to say no to since I have experience.
why haven't we see a flood of dream projects being completed now that AI can do anything? Surely there were many people only held back by their technical ability in realizing their million dollar ideas. Or were their ideas just not very good?
>>746051819What I've noticed about vibe coding is that, while AI is helpful as a faster search, it doesn't really increase what a person can do. It helps mostly with stuff like syntax and APIs which you could already learn by looking up. But, it can help act as a rubber duck to fight procrastination.desu, anyone who can make a successful project with AI help, could have done it anyway. But some people get in their own heads saying they can't do something and I can see it being helpful to prevent that.
>>746060339The very first thing you should do is make a design document and a cursor (or whatever AI IDE you are using) rules file. Focus on each each feature on a single agent window and don't put multiple ideas into the same agent.
>>746051819He feet too big for he god dang he
>>746051819is this real?
>>746051819No because even if the AI can write perfect code a project still lives and dies by its management and anyone relying on vibing their codebase simply isn't going to bring a game to completion. And that's assuming they have non-AI assets to work with.
>>746051819ermmm
I'm like 99% sure that this Sandustry game that came out a few weeks ago was vibecoded. The UI is a dead giveaway. Also very obviously made by a furry. The game runs completely fine to be fair, but the gameplay is incredibly simplistic for a "factory" game. I have doubts the full version will be any better.
