Pixel art is irreplaceable, literally nothing feels like as gamey as pixel art, no 3D, raster 2D, HD2D, faux pixel art etc will ever replace games where every pixel was hand placed

Gamefreak's pixel art was hot dogshit

Pixel art will return in Avengers Doomsday

We replaced it in the late 90s retard. 3d is superior pixeltroons btfo

pixel art is such a faggy term, when did that name take off? We used to just call them sprites

agreed
>>
>>746054310
the japs call it ドット絵, is that better?
>>
>>746054310
Sprites usually refer to the character assets and tiles refer to the environment assets, but both can be used outside and aren't unique to pixel art

Japs call it dot art
>>
There is no such thing as pixel art. If you play an emulated retro game at its original resolution, you literally won't see any pixels.
>>
>>746053540
Sure but I love hand-drawn 2D games too now that we have the technology.

Every pixel in that scene was changed by a post processing effect

an effect by the same guy that made the pixels. might as well say the pokemon trainer's reflection in the OP is a post-processing effect over the water. what's your point? it's still pixel art.
here's another if that's not your speed.
>>
your monitor is made of pixels
any art viewed through a monitor is by definition pixel art
>>
>>746055293
It's just sliding a cloud sprite over the water tiles no different than the character walking, this >>746054431 is a computer generated effect that affects the hue, brightness, and saturation of every pixel on the screen in a soft shading sort of way that defeats the purpose of placing every pixel by hand
>>
>>746055429
Your eyes perceive 3D space as 2D images, anything you see through your eyes is by definition 2D

>defeats the purpose of placing every pixel by hand
the purpose is to convey a scene, the orange shading evokes a feeling of warmth & comfort that was the artist's intent. by the way the effect is not post-processed, it's baked into the pixel art for that room and conforms to the limits of a 256-color palette on a 320x240 canvas. only urotsuki has a color filter applied to match. are you saying certain techniques aren't allowed in pixel art? is the fill tool off limits because it edits multiple pixels? I can't use copy and paste?

Somebody needs to bite the bullet and make a Triple A pixel art game. The world needs to know what that would play like.

>>
>>746053540
You contradict yourself by posting Pokemon, the series with visuals that peaked during DS era when it was partially 3D. Not like that's saying much because Pokemon was always pretty ugly.
