Did consoles hold Elden Ring back graphically?
>>
But the game looks good, on my ps5. Also runs smooth.
>>
>>746054192
the game ran like shit on cutting edge PCs when it came out. so if anything it was too ambitious even for PC not held back by consoles. but the ps4 and xbone rly did hold back a lot of games

yes

only because they suck ass at optimization

I love the implication that a console is holding graphics back. As if any developer gives two shits about pc.

Graphics are mostly being held back by realism retards wanting to do shit FOR REAL that still don't look as nearly as good as trickery.
Planar reflections absolutely demolish raytracing if your goal is to draw bodies of water, and if your game don't have realtime time of day, static lighting still absolutely fucking rape RT.

Bluepoint had original Demon’s Souls ported 1:1 to PS4 Pro and had it running at 60fps but Sony didn’t want to release that build. PS5 remake only.

Demon's Souls Remake for PlayStation 5 has performance configuration settings on the disc for running the game on PlayStation 4. None for PC. There are references elsewhere to the Windows build.

PC is the only platform where you can actually own your games, because you just tell whatever DRM is on there to fuck off.
Sony on the other hand can just update the firmware of your cuck box and block you from reading you discs if they wanted to.
>>
>>746054192
Yes, as is the case for pretty much all "9th gen" games, since they were all released on ps4/xbone as well for the majority of the generation.

elden ring had to release on the same hardware that could barely handle bloodborne, so yes, it was absolutely held back.
>>
>>746068837
>PC is the only platform where you can actually own your games, because you just tell whatever DRM is on there to fuck off.
DRM is inevitable; it's how the devs or publishers want their software be experienced. Bad news; if the software is digital only, that's DRM at work, baby. You can only cope by removing the security side of DRM, but it's just that... a cope.

For things like these GoG is the only way for digital, or piracy; what they offer is completely free of security drm crap for being only digital

This hasn't actually been true since Sekiro at the very earliest, maybe even Dark Souls 3. Anyone who claims this is a retard playing defense for them without even actually knowing, or FromSoft is lying so they don't have to "unlock" it, for whatever reason. Maybe because they fear liability if there ARE some bugs related to framerate.

But you can play Sekiro, Armored Core 6, Elden Ring with uncapped framerate at least up to 120 or 144 or whatever without worrying about any physics issues. It is not a thing anymore.

Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring had to run on the Xbox One DDR3 and a GPU equivalent to an HD7790. It was completely fucked considering OG Xbox and Xbox 360 were extremely impressive for 2001 and 2005.

Elden Ring on base Xbox One is unbelievably shit. In every sense base PS4 feels like the console From Software targeted as the standard release; no bells or whistles, but a just-about passable way to play.

tldr

As I suggested, if anything I would peg it to Japanese autism about liability or whatever. Their games' logic is no longer intrinsically and demonstrably locked to framerate but they know they're not competent enough to guarantee there won't be issues and offer it as an official option, so they don't. And because it requires altering the game process it requires their stupid fucking anti-cheat implementation (not a problem exclusive to Japs) to be turned off which means paying customers have to choose between Online functionality and framerate.

It's not good but it's far from as simple as "From Software still ties their game logic to framerate like it's 2003"

it was shader comp issues.

Elden Ring eventually got a shader precaching scheme that addressed all the stuttering. I was playing on a fucking rx480 over a year after release and it was fine.
quality settings were completely retarded also. Like one water effects option that completely crushed performance whenever you looked at water for absolutely fucking nothing but some waves you would only ever see actually near the shore. >>
>>746083549

No it didn't, it still caches on the fly like it has since release. If you upgrade your drivers it starts all over again. There were optimization improvements but it has nothing to do with shader cache.
