Anyone else prefer RDR 1 than 2?
>>
>>746054797
Story, music, atmosphere - RDR1

Open world - RDR2

I like combat in both
>>
>>746054797
Everyone with a brain does.
>>
>>746054797
The story and pacing were much better, quests were still railroaded but not as pure movie game tier as 2
That said 2 is one of the best looking games ever made and it's better for exploring and fucking around than 1
If I put nostalgia aside I can say 2 is probably better overall but I do personally prefer 1
>>
>>746054797
It's cool because you can go to Mexico and buy property. Other than that, it's not as good.
>>
>>746054797
Dumb ESL.
>>
>>746054797
I started playing RDR2 before RDR1 and now I find RDR1 bad. It does look better than I expected, but after RDR2 I just feel like the attention to detail is lacking in the first one.
>>
RDR1 had more bounties than RDR2 (which has only 14)

Only 14 bounties. Like 3 bounties per town. Across the whole fuck huge map. Let that sink in.
>>
It's an actual VIDEO GAME compared to RDR2.
People who worship RDR2 on here don't understand that, sadly. They're retarded. They'll look at RDR2's five-minute-long animations and fishing and hunting mechanics, because you know, they're retarded, they need the bare minimum to be satisfied. Almost none of them have actually completed the singleplayer for the game, and when you bring it up on here, they'll just double down and go
>hyuck hyuck so wat if i dont play the story
All in all, RDR2 is for the subhumans, RDR1 is for the white man.
>>
1 is if you love old movies, 2 is if you love more "modern" movies. I like both but they are all very different in style.
I still seethe at rockstar for removing the online of 1 on the recent port though.

i also feel like this. i wrote this post: >>746057460
basically, i had the map mostly cleared of activities by the HALFWAY point of the game that is by the time i got to St Denis. not enough is said about just how EMPTY rdr2 is. the game is only fun for half a playthrough because you can semi-roleplay and pretend-sandbox your way thru half of it and after that it's just a boring movie game going thru main quests when the plot points progress too fast to be immersive because you can no longer intersperse them with side activities
>>
>>746057564
>retarded brownoids
I see you have never played RDR1 and gotten to the epic portion where you run for Mexico. What a newfag.
>>
first one was shit
i assume 2 is shit because a sequel to a shit game is shit
>>
>>746057784
Mexico in RDR1 is still better than anything in RDR2

>>
>>746054797
i never liked how the last part of RD1 ended, after killing dutch i expected a far better progression the ending, but no they decided to build rapport between john and his shitty familly with boring repetitive missions.
Kino ending + i got to enter mexico with a perfect sundown with "far away" playing in the backround.
>>
>>746057490
you sound adhd
>>
>>746054797
NO. I actually didnt think so highly of RDR1. Its an OK game but its pretty much a western version of the SD trilogy GTA format. DO random mission, free roam a bit, rinse repeat.
It is a good game and has a more cohesive story than SD GTA games but compared to RDR2 its basic.
RDR2 of course goes deep into systems and simulating the west. Where RDR is too gamey, go collect flowers, skin animals all for checklist tier incremental upgrades.
RDR2 lets you live in the wild west frontier fantasy. RDr1 is just a action game set in the wild west.
Doesnt help that new austin is a barren and drab desert too.
>>
>>746054797
The ambient music is great and riding the horse while the whistle theme and the sunset skybox is on is awesome but the rest of the game kind of sucks
one-note story full of non-characters, guns feel like paper, side quests are all terrible and they all end up with the NPCs dying or getting killed for some reason? there's nothing to do in the empty open world either
>>
>>746061560
>there's nothing to do in the empty open world either
back in my day we made our own fun. what do you want, dumb little minigames?
>>
>>746061978
There's literally nothing of note to do except killing NPCs, I'm pretty sure it's why the bandana doesn't affect neither bounties nor your honor when worn
gay challenges and hunting do not count for they are boring
>>
I remember playing RDR2 for the first time and thinking "This is just the same story as 1 but with a worse protagonist"

It's been a while since I've played either. RDR was a great game. When I played RDR2 I loved it, and I can say my experience was better with it, but that was partly because of the time I played it. I think the first game is probably better at being a game, and i say that as someone who thinks RDR2 is overhated. It's a great and ambitious project, and I think it's got a lot of commendable elements.

Better than either of them at being a game, however, is Red Dead 1, aka Red Dead Revolver. I've grown to appreciate brevity.
>>
All modern open world games have maps that are too large. This makes it difficult to place interesting things inside the entire map. Most of the areas are boring and not worth exploring. It isnt a fun cowboy simulator.
>>
>>746063472
Must disagree, being as it's one of the most beautiful, atmospheric, and well crafted maps. It's not everyone's taste, though. Open worlds are not bad as a rule.
>>
>>746063295
Anyone but the most insufferable contrarians pretend that Red Dead Revolver was anything but a lackluster prototype.
>>
>>746054797
2 was boring as fuck especially post-game
>>
>>746057660
It took me less than 18 hours to complete RDR1 with every single stranger encounter and most challenges done. Admit it, the reason why /v/ hates RDR2 so much has much more to with it being “le popular Reddit game” than with the actual quality of the game.
Had the game featured more content, you’d call it bloated.
>>
>>746054797
I did not care for Red Dead Redemption.
>>
>>746063761
I pretended nothing and merely appreciate, and find a game particularly charming, partly in it's simplicity, but enjoy being a condiut for the devils spite.
>>
>>746063761
Is it really so hard to believe that some people's preferences align more with the cartoony arcade style game than the gritty realistic open world story driven game?
>>
>>746054797
2 graphically hasn't aged well and has that kinda ugly grimy GTA4 look
>>
Mexico goes on way too long and is outright plagarism at times but RDR1 >>> RDR2.

RDR2 could've been Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid or it could've been a Jeremiah Johnson type game focusing on hunting and relationships but instead it's this overstuffed prequel that provides little new characterization. Too ambitious, jack of all trades master of none.

>>746057490
This. With GTAV and RDR2 Cückstar went full retard with the simulation aspect and forgot the game aspect. Its why I have zero interest in GTA6.

>>

The ambience/atmosphere in 1 is so far beyond 2’s that it’s ridiculous. When I’m riding around and I hear any one of those iconic guitar riffs, a bead of sweat forms on my forehead and rolls down my face. The cutscenes and dialogues are miles better, the game actually feels like a western. Whereas in 2 it’s all just lush and green and there is literally a point in the game when Dutch says “We can’t go east anymore because then we’ll be in the ocean.” What kind of fucking western is that? Plus the ending was far better. Killing Micah was just so unsatisfying. Now killing Edgar Ross and having the game freeze frame with that killer guitar noise thing as you’re hit with the somber realisation that everything John did to try give his kid a better life instead led him down the path of an outlaw? Absolute Cinema. And then Dead Man’s Gun starts playing? Forget about it. Incredible.
>>
RDR1 is better at pretty much EVERYTHING except stuff to do

RDR1, along with music, story, atmosphere etc, just has way better pacing. Riding into Mexico for the first time is one of the most kino gaming experiences. RDR2 is visually and environmentally way more impressive, but the story is boring as fuck in comparison.
>>
>>746054797
RDR1 and GTA4 was peak R*

Games that didn't hold hands and let you do whatever.

That said RDR2 looks amazing and theres loads to do, it just was very turtle paced.

playing rdr1 after just felt like i was running around plinking at peoples heads for a couple of hours

>>
>>746066715
RDR2 was more of an experience that RDR1 but still lacks the depth. Robberies are severely limited. Train robberies are a buggy mess. Most robberies in general don't yield much. There is nothing to really sink your money into at the end. The story kinda peters off after chapter 3 or 4. Guama is half asses. Epilogue is half assed. No mexico. RDR2 was great but knowing how much better it could have been it still leaves me wanting more.

i played rdr1 at release and there's literally nothing in rdr1 that's better than rdr2. the game was lost to console exclusivity for so long that contrarians managed to convince themselves it was the best game in the world
>>
>>746071378
That's not true, I still have my copy on PS3. I play it back to back to RDR2. Both games are good, but RDR1 is limited by things that were not even introduced to the series yet.
>>
>>746071646
>I still have my copy on PS3.
i seem to remember that version running at like 20 fps
>>
RDR2 is so fucking TEDIOUS. Rockstar already have the most mind numbing "gameplay" with the horseback/car rides where most of the exposition and dialog happen, but in RDR2 they added a ton of tedious interactions for the sake of realism that just gets in the way of actually doing anything fun. It's BORING.
>>
>>746064619
>Which is why that shithole went through numerous revolutions and violent uprisings
Technically they had less revolutions and uprisings than the US
>>
>>746063761
>contrarian
I've quickly found this to be the indian Rockstar defense force's word of choice
Nothing bad at having different acceptable standards and pick an arcade game that knows when to last than open-world games that aren't open until 3/4rds of the game
>>
>>746071824

1 has massively better story because it's tight and focused. 2 is meandering and just the gang suffering setback after setback with no real climax.
>>

They're both terrible movie games with walky talky sections, terrible minigames, boring empty worlds and anemic shooting mechanics.
1 is at least better paced and not slow as molasses, it's also much better written.
>>
>>746054797
I do
>>
>>746057306
First one was the better game, though. By a wide margin. The entire game just felt more engrossing somehow, it felt like a real western game. The second one is a fantastic stereotypical modern movie game, but it is terrible western game.
>>
>>746072341
>Favorite games are walking sims like STALKER and Morrowind
Red Dead 2 has no depth, it has no gear snowballing, it's just slight meaningless upgrades.
That's why it's slow gameplay is boring as fuck.
>>
>>746072713
1 also doesn't shove left leaning politics down my throat and is pretty centrist.
>>
>>746054797
I like both but prefer the gameplay in 2 and the story in 1
>>
>>746061423
RDR1 is shit because it IS literally just GTA with horses. It also is up its own ass, given it takes fucking 2 hours to get to the free-roam part. "Here, ride for 5 fucking minutes on horseback to your destination while I speak at you." Absolute fucking horseshit, I had patience for this when I was stupid and young enough to generous give some level of respect to Rockstar's dogshit games. And I did beat it back then, when it came out.

But then RDR2 takes like 5 fucking hours to get started, and you're right! It's such an "immersive" "sim"! I love taking 5 seconds to loot a fucking drawer! I love the "weight" of my character's delayed input! God, this story is just SO IMPORTANT and so DEEP.

>>746061317
You have no respect for your own time probably because you're 16 years old.
>>
>>746072840
That, as well. Rockstar knew what they were doing, when they allowed the gamers to murder the feminists, only to patch that out years later, when rockstar had fooled the chuds into giving them their money..
>>
>>746065467
As in every game Rockstar has ever fucking made and yet all of you human cattle think inflated self-importance changes this fact in regards to RDR2, or that GTA6 has the possibility of being any good whatsoever.

ROCKSTAR IS A FUCKING TERRIBLE FACILE SHALLOW DOGSHIT DEV COMPANY.
>>
>>746054797
I played 1 and 2 back to back earlier this year. I liked 1 and it was very good for the time but 2 is a much better game.
>>
>>746073182
There's nothing good about 2
I'd rather watch the Fists Trilogy, better written and I don't have to pretend like I'm playing a videogame.
>>
>>746073071
Yeah you have to be in to a vibe where you actually want to playa slow burn game with RDR2. The realism is its strong point. It allows the player to play it in a non gamified way. Though i agree with the gripe it takes too long to get into.
You aren't really free until you have all the tools too so you need to do a lot of chapter 2 before you can just fuck off and have your own fun in the world.
>>
>>746054797
I much prefer the story and "vibe" of 1 over 2, but 2's world over 1's.
>>
>>746054797
I dunno why they thought adding a bunch of cumbersome bullshit to 2 would make it more enjoyable.

I dropped RDR2 because of the camp segments where you are forced to walk around at a snails pace. It's a pet peeve of mine, I hate it so much.

I wasn't gripped by the story, people insisted to me that it's worth it by the end but I just didn't care to find out. From memory I made it up to a big city area around the time I dropped it
>>
RDR2 looks and feels less like a western for some reason.
>>
>>746062669
Not him but all Rockstar games have the exact same story.
>I was betrayed by someone I trusted
>Now I trust you
>Now you've betrayed me too! How could this have happened!? I am sad and/or angry!!!
San Andreas was that. Bully was that. GTA IV was that. RDR was that. GTA V was that. RDR2 was that. GTA VI is that. That last one isn't a leak, just a safe bet.

Rockstar cannot even fathom writing a story that isn't just betrayal-trust-betrayal. They've had literal decades to prove they can do it, and it's clear they are simply incapable.
>>
RDR on hard mode where a couple shots kill you is a lot of fun
>>
>>746056873
>Open world - RDR2
In RDR1 I could run into cougars in several places. In RDR2 I had to keep going to the same spot on the map if I wanted a cougar pelt or else I would just never get the pelts. Towards the end of the game I kept getting routes that took me through the same annoying area where that indian lost his chanupa. I could probably think of more examples of what I'm saying, which is that the open world felt very cramped somehow.

RDR 1 was one of my favorite games of all time until RDR 2 came out and raped it (by having a shit story and basically mutilating Johns character for that absolute faggot Arthur Morgan). That said, yeah it's a much better game when distilled down to its essence as a story about the decline of the wild west and how its no longer a world for old school outlaws.
>>
>>746054797
Are there any mods to make the audio less shit for the PC port? I don't remember the game's audio mixing being this mediocre on xbox 360.
>>
>>746054797
RDR1 multiplayer was really fun back in the day. It was also the first game I played with HDMI. Looked out from on top of a mesa and thought games could not look as good again.
It's major downside is that it's not only GTA with horses but GTA IV with horses which is notorious for most the missions being drive, shoot a group of guys behind cover, and drive back.

RDR2 was basically unplayable for me. The input delay, painfully slow animations, forced walk around the camp, survival mechanics, endless walking talking sections, and highly restrictive missions killed it. It's everything I hate in modern games.
>>
>>746077365
>I was betrayed by someone I trusted
>Now you've betrayed me too, how could this have happened
This didn't happen in GTA4, RDR2 the only real betrayal is Micah, Dutch is more of a gradual downfall you get to witness.
