SBMM is literally fine as long as the game has a healthy population.
Yeah, if you're pretty good, you're going to not recieve as many free kills for your youtube channel. Put up or shut up.

SBMM yes
EOMM no

SBMM can kinda suck in more casual games where the meta is ass and being good fundamentally can quickly put you in matches that are genuinely not fun even if you enjoy sweaty, competitive play in other games. Especially if you want to play with friends which is usually a big selling point of said games. But that's not even to say there should be none at all but that a game like CoD, where the devs purposefully design it so bad players can get cheap kills on better ones, should not have as strict of SBMM as premier in CS. And to be fair, I don't think it does.

As a rule, I almost mever play "Party Games" online by myself.
Halo, Smash Brothers, Mario Kart, stuff like that.
These are excellent games with beer and the boys, but it's like they're a completely different game when the raw cosy fun is stripped out.
I think that's what you're getting at?

I don't have a problem with something like COD having SBMM by comparison, if that makes sense.

I can't because my computer broke two months ago but it wasn't good. I'm not saying this as a "I want easy fights", I'm saying this as "I want to not get put up against fucking SWF Irridescants after not playing in months while just wanting to try a new killer for fun"
>>
“SBMM” is a term only used by bots and shills. It doesn’t exist. Actual skill based ranked games like chess don’t say they have “SBMM”

>I can't because my computer broke two months ago but it wasn't good.
Uh huh
>I'm not saying this as a "I want easy fights", I'm saying this as "I want to not get put up against fucking SWF Irridescants
So you want easy fights
All you're doing is proving OP right
>>
>>746057578
That's because in chess they just say "Elo" or "Glicko" or the other actual name of the system they're using because they aren't forced to come up with a proprietary system because those don't work well for team games and TrueSkill is too expensive to license or whatever.

>CoD4 YouTube channel complaining about SBMM
>"Where else can you perfect a skill for 20 years and get punished for it?"
>Everyone agrees

Why would I want to play in lobbies with 20 year veterans? Yet they don't want to?
>>
>>746059524
i think you play against better opponents the more skill you have in every single competition that humans have ever held
>>
>>746055391
It's fine but team ranked games are impossible to make fair games with sbmm.
>>
>>746062585
wrong, just rank the teams by skill and matchmake them. easy
>>
>>746056480
fpbp
SBMM is perfectly fine 1v1 and never bitched about in games like most fightan, but it's obvious as shit when the randomized matchmaking EOMM reaper algorithmically decides you had too much fun so it's time to be matched against a team of players with 10x if not 100x your playtime for your Talmud mandated slave circumcision.

>>746057269
No Kenshinbro you're just as good as the Killer/bullysquad with over a thousand hours played than you, you should take it as a compliment :)
DbD is a special case as well since it can take a five minute queue time for a game with 50k+ players and crossplay, and still give you the most retarded matches possible
>>
>>746063392
Its not that easy, there are too many variables in team games and players frequently get put in the wrong elo in team games. In 1v1 games the best player wins most the time. In team games all it takes is one player having a bad day to completely throw the match off balance.
>>
>>746063969
>it's time to be matched against a team of players with 10x if not 100x your playtime
this doesn't actually happen. it's just cope for shitters.

Hold on a minute guys... what if we just let players host their own servers and make them available for browsing instead of entrusting our fun to some retarded algorithm?
>>
>>746063392
It's simply impossible to put an accurate evaluator on players, especially team games since you can just play to get carried, perform just okay enough and you'll generally climb until the point you become dead weight
In some games some roles climb faster, while others take more skill and game knowledge to win with, generally at higher ranks they get raped (support players vs dive in hero shooters for example)
>>
>>746064147
cool it with the antisemitism
>>
>>746064073
Playtime also doesn't equal skill anyway. I've been accused of smurfing in games I genuinely had like a dozen hours in by somebody who had played way more than me.
>>
>>746064147
Alternatively, what if we just let the ranked ladder just play itself out, rather than trying to force every player into a 50% winrate?
>>
>>746064020
>>746064238
nah its trivial. if the team wins their mmr goes up, if they lose it goes down.
you are just too retarded to use your brains
>>
>>746064238
Yeah, I feel like people rage way more over MM in character-heavy games more than something like CS. Which kind of indicates to me it's probably less of an actual MM issue and just that player skill is obviously more volatile when you start forcing people to fill roles, play characters they're less familiar with, and when they can run into rough matchups even on a character they're good at. Especially at average ranks where people are inherently less experienced and more inconsistent.
>>
>>746063969
>SBMM is perfectly fine 1v1 and never bitched about in games like most fightan
Ranked sucks ass in most fighting games to the point only like the top 10% of players are even getting a real ranked mode and plenty of more niche ones basically don't have it at all.
>>
>>746063969
>and still give you the most retarded matches possible
searching for the most braindead mouthbreathers takes more time, yes, that's the point
>>
My life and wellbeing improved dramatically when I stopped playing multiplayer games
>>
>>746064690
It's that and games with communities that are centered on pubstomping
Character based team games have way too many variables as you said
CoD is a game where people do not play to win in the slightest, it's all about kills and KDA for most of that community, I don't know how it evaluates skill so I can't comment on its efficacy, but regardless the general community wants to experience the highs of getting a nuke or whatever the really high killstreak is or have a high kd
>>
>>746065248
what did you replace them with?
>>
Having a visible rating and elo system is always the best. The reason skill based matchmaking has a poor reputation in many games is that it often literally punishes you for being good at the game with no actual reward. In a game with ranks and elo you're also forced to match against better players the better you are but you get the e-peen satisfaction of knowing your matchmaking rating is 3k while shitters are at 500 or you're Platinum while they're Bronze. In games that have skill based matchmaking but no elo you need to sweat your ass off just to still get a 50% win rate while visibly nothing is different from casuals running around spamming melee and having fun without caring about the meta.

Destiny was particularly awful about this since you got loot and exotic items from Crucible matches but it still had skill based matchmaking so you as a good player would spend your time in a sweaty match with meta fags all running the same loadout only to lose and not complete bounties or get less loot, meanwhile some gamer dad casual played a match in his casual bracket and got an exotic for being carried. Extraction shooters are the same, if there's skill-based matchmaking and higher skill brackets don't literally have more loot on the map then you're being punished for being good at the game which encouraged smurfing which in turn drives away actual casuals.
>>
>>746059524
The funniest thing about them is that they are all shitters who have only just reached the right hand side of the bell curve, without sbmm they can stomp scrubs and rarely run into people better than them because there's just fewer of them around
Diamond rank or thereabouts, aka still shit at the video game
>>
>>746066081
What world are you living in where you can have sbmm without an elo system?
>>
>>746062585
Team games can just have a matchmaking rating and ranked system. It's not as perfect as something like chess or StarCraft but it's good enough to ensure an Immortal in dota 2 isn't stomping noobs who've been playing a week and don't even know what a courier is
>>
>>746055391
Halo 3 figured this out 2 decades ago. Visible rank, player level tied to highest playlist rank ranked lobbies separated from unranked lobbies
>>
>>746066232
I mean a visible elo system, a lot of these games have hidden MMR where the skill based matchmaking is entirely obfuscated to the player and based on hidden factors. If you can queue up ranked and see that you're 3k rating and your opponents are 3100 that's obviously fine and the same as having ranks like bronze/silver/gold
>>
>>746065652
single player games, longer fap sessions and sleep
>>
>>746062585
You can reasonably accurately predict the likelihood of winning for small teams, the thing that makes them feel worse sometimes is that there's more people involved and people don't perform at exactly the same level match to match
Add on top of that any other layers that change how much impact a person has in a game such as heroes in a hero shooter, or maps that they know well or don't know well, or maps that their best characters aren't suited to, and so on
In the end, elo levels out asymptotically
>>
>>746066459
funny, I'm the opposite
what I wouldn't give to reduce my faps so I can play more multiplayer games
which would also correlate to more sleep since I wouldn't be staying up late gooning for that nut
>>
>>746066408
Ah yeah, fair enough, I can understand why developers would want to include a hidden and more volatile mmr, but it kinda does suck when you're told you're gold and then matched with masters players
>>
sbmm is good for most players
