How the fuck do you make the junction system work? I've been hitting like a wet noodle since the start of the game.
>>
Get 99 of the spell then junction it
>>

Why do people understand Equip Sword -> Do Damage
but not Junction Spell -> Do Damage
>>
make your gfs learn shit like str-j, mag-j and junction magic
>>
>>746060695
Also go into the GF menu and make sure your GFs learn all the junction abilities
>>
>>746060695
There's an in-game tutorial on how to junction. Did you watch that?
>>
>>746060695
I don't know what your party is like but everyone in FF8 hits like a wet noodle except Squall
>>
>>746060872
Because it also factors in how many of the spell you have, which in itself is bizarre.
>>
>>746060695
Just make a full stack of quake spells and you'll comfortably do 1k+ damage before you even leave Balamb.
>>
Play the card game and get the OP magic. Auto-junction everything then manually junction the magic that actually gives the best stats.
>>
>>746061105
Bigger number = more good is hard to grasp?
>>
>>746060695
>draw 100 of a spell before you junction it
this is the basics
>learn Card on Quetzalcoatl then Card a bunch of fish on the beach
>learn Card Mod on the same guy and turn hose into Water
>junction Water to str
>use the Ifrit card to win the Zell card from Zell's mom, Mod it into 3 items that give Str+60%, one for each of your party members
this gets you through disc 1 at least, without dealing with the fucking card game
now here's the secret sauce
>don't actually use magic, it sucks, but junction your magic stat anyway because that's how you draw stronger spells
>buy 10 tents and L-refine with Siren to get 100 Curaga, junction to HP
>take OFF the HP junction and put it back on, you now have easy access to limit breaks
>>
>>746060695
I have no idea why this game filters brainlets so hard. It’s not a complicated system. You simply choose magic that boosts stats the most, that’s literally it. My 6 year old brother figured it out back in 2000 when he first played this game.

watch the tutorial again
it's in the main menu

if you still don't get it, just use AUTO JUNCTION
you know, the function that's right there in the junction menu that AUTOMATICALLY JUNCTIONS SPELLS FOR YOU

Get the card and the card mod ability from leveling Quetzalcoatl, go to the beach nearby balamb garden (where you start), card a bunch of the fish enemies, then use card mod on those cards to get a bunch of water spells
Junction water to your attack and then enjoy being op for the next two thirds of the game.

Then get bored and quit because you realize this entire system is based around setting up passive stat boosts and spamming attack or summon with your toolkit never meaningfully changing outside of getting new spells. FF8 is overwhelmingly the most boring FF battle system.
>>
>>746061552
that's what it was, I got it mixed up
>>
>>746061318
the scaling of what exactly isn't explained so you have to go in blind with what gives bigger numbers with no criteria whatsoever
>>
>>746061369
What I did last time I played the game
>Ignore cards entirely
>Go straight to Ifrit
>Use magic (from overworld draw points) to kill stuff or Draw->Cast instead of stock
>Shiva gets Refine Ice Magic by the end of the SeeD test
>Use the Magic Stones Cid gives you with the Diablous lamp to get enough Blizzardga spells to kill everything
There's absolutely no need to grind whatsoever. Grinding just makes the game less fun.

You have to have a high enough IQ to intuit that speed magic like Haste is good for increasing Speed, protective magic like Protect is good for defense, offensive magic like Meteor is good at increasing offensive stats, and so on
>>
>>746061687
>Grinding just makes the game less fun.
You might be playing the wrong genre, anon.
>>
>>746061863
but ff8 is one of the few oldschool JRPGs where grinding is actually not necessary at all
>>
>>746061863
One of the fun parts of the genre is utilizing strategy to overcome powerful foes, not making numbers go up. If you want that go play cookie clicker or some shit.
>>
you can just play the game normally without doing all of this retarded gamebreaking autist grinding that removes all the fun of the game. wow you have 5000 hp and hit for 2000 damage in the dollet mission, might as well just go watch a lets play at that point.

how to actually make ffviii a well balanced game:
>no item refine
>no card refine
>one draw per character per battle
>2 gfs per character max
>no aura
>no meltdown
>1 limit break per character per battle
>GF can be summoned once per battle
there, now you have to actually think about the gfs you junction and the commands you select in battle.
>>
>>746061653
It isn't hard to figure out that offensive spells give better numbers to STR, healing spells to HP, defensive spells to VIT, etc.
>>
>>746061993
out-of-combat preparations to give yourself overwhelming power is a form of strategy
>>
>>746062343
True, but it's also the most boring possible strategy
>>
>>746062116
You play TT because it's fun, you refine boss drops into whatever the fuck you want and you grind nothing and don't Enc-None. It's actually that simple.
Your other constraints amount to 'don't spam X or Y'.
>>
>>746062116
Being overpowered in this game is fun actually.

>>746060695
The biggest tip is to limit leveling up as much as possible until you can get your GF's stat bonus abilities. Leveling up does nothing for you and only makes the game harder.
>>
Literally do the tutorial holy shit
>>
>>746062116
>artificial chud tier YDBTG constraints
wow, sounds so fun....
>>
>>746061795
>>746062117
That's not what he's talking about. It also scales off the number of the specific spell you have, which is very unusual in a game to have the limiting factor of how many times you can case cure or fire being the physical number of the spell you have in your inventory. There are games where you can allow a non mage use spells by throwing a pot or something, but nothing else like this.
>>
>>746062819
Level 30 bombs drop the Bomb's Soul item of which 1 refines into 100 Firega. You can also draw the gamebreaking Meltdown spell from them.
A Level 20 Bomb has 600 HP, 21 STR, 28 MAG
A Level 30 Bomb has 880 HP, 30 STR, 42 MAG
Both can only cast a basic Fire spell. The massive improvement of their loot table relative to their meager increase in power means the game actually becomes easier as you level up.
>>
>bro just don’t fight in any battles

trash game
