anon played the game in japanese as it was meant to be played even though he can't understand JP and couldn't read any of the dialogue and also used his emulator's fast forward feature to skip all of the cutscenes... i kneel...
>>746065479>>was sephiroth jenova?>Physically, yes, mentally, no.In the first half of the game it's Jenova, afterwards it's Sephiroth.
>>746065574For the entire game until a single scene in the middle and the end, it's Jenova's body being piloted remotely by Sephiroth's will.Only the very final battle is his real body after he regenerated himself.
>>746065574>>746065695The whole main point is that Sephiroth is trying to destroy the planet specifically because he's being controlled by Jenova.
>>746065789other way around, dummy. the 2nd anon you're replying to is correct
>>746065789sounds gay and retardedbecause sephiroth is confused as shit, considers other humans parasites, and jenova's legacy as the legitimate life formhe says as much in the mansion

>>746065862>>746065873Jenova travels from planet to planet and destroys them in the process. The story clearly demonstrates that Jenovas cells are able to act on their own. Sephiroth is essentially Patrick Bateman, destroying the planet (and obviously killing himself in the process) makes zero sense for him.
Introducing zoomers to retro gaming was a mistake.
>>746065789No it isn't. Jenova doesn't destroy planets, idiot. It eats people.
>>746066014>Jenova travels from planet to planet and destroys them in the process. No it doesn't. It infects people with its virus.>Sephiroth is essentially Patrick Bateman, destroying the planet (and obviously killing himself in the process) makes zero sense for him.Sephiroth isn't destroying the planet, he's wounding it so he can absorb the Lifestream and become God.You are under a major misapprehension about what FFVII is about. I think you just watched Advent Children or something.
>>746066134>>746066014Pretty sure Bugenhagen shows a bit of what Jenova does. It seems like Jenova eats the life force/essence of planets rather than 'destroying' them, leaving them as husks that implode. The Sephiroth clones (and SOLDIER 1st Class) are chock full of Jenova cells. Sephiroth seems to be able to manipulate those cells from the lifestream.
>>746066134>Jenova was a Calamity that fell from the sky a long, long time ago, and tried to destroy the planet...
>>746066246>Pretty sure Bugenhagen shows a bit of what Jenova does. You haven't played FFVII very recently, huh? That scene was showing what Shinra was doing to the planet, not Jenova.>It seems like Jenova eats the life force/essence of planets rather than 'destroying' them, leaving them as husks that implode. It doesn't do that. At no point does it do anything like that. Jenova is an alien beast, it attacks PEOPLE, not worlds.>The Sephiroth clones (and SOLDIER 1st Class) are chock full of Jenova cells. Sephiroth seems to be able to manipulate those cells from the lifestream.Yes, he is. This is quite correct, Sephiroth uses Jenova's psychic ability to communicate with itself at any distance to further his plans. His plans look nothing like Jenova's plans.
jenovas was lindsay clancy before it was popular
>>746065016>no, sephiroth is a human (hojos kid) who injected with jenova cells in the womb. SOLDIERs/cloud get exposed to jenova cells/mako after they're fully developed. that is why Sephiroth can control Jenova's body remnants and why he has control over cloud. >its cloud "true" self talking to his schizo "Im zack" PTSD persona. remember in the lifestream when tifa had to get different "clouds" to unite to make him mentally sane again.>because tifa didnt know WTF was going on either, and couldnt trust her own memories- they was she remembers things, cloud wasnt in nibelheim at all 5 years ago during the incident. but if thats true, how the FUCK does he remember it all so clearly in the flashback? this, combined with the fact cloud had already shown he was incredibly mentally frail already, she simply chose to keep it to herself.>rule of cool>yes, humanity dies but the planet lives, though there are cope interpretations/retcons that they lived somehow, the original devs intent is that humanity dies.>those are the failed "jenova/sephiroth clones" that have been injected with jenova cells, like sephiroth was. but unlike sephiroth, there bodies were too weak and they become shells of a human. Cloud is one of these "failed experiments" as well. >sephiroth's mom, who cucked vincent to fuck hojo>breed a gold chocobo
>>746066318>You haven't played FFVII very recently, huh? That scene was showing what Shinra was doing to the planet, not Jenova.Oh my bad.>It doesn't do that. At no point does it do anything like that. Jenova is an alien beast, it attacks PEOPLE, not worlds.I think this gets hazy, because people 'return to the life stream,' and I'm not sure if that makes them part of the life stream, ergo no life stream no people.
>>746065954Do you read finnegans wake every day?
>>746066282Those sure are words you typed and not an excerpt from FFVII.
>>746066180>he's wounding itNigga, that's what Jenova makes him think. A meteor of that size would fucking nuke the planet. Sephiroth is a fucking puppet.

He has all the physical hallmarks of being a SOLDIER, but the story he tells is impossible because Tifa knew about Zack>where the fuck does the final set of fights even take placecenter of the planet I imagine, accessed via the northern crater. >is the ending implying that everybody dies anywaysI never saw it as such, Midgar is abandoned and overgrown as a symbol of people giving up Mako as a power source entirely, moving away from the urban hellscape Shinra created to live alongside the planet once more>what's the deal with the hooded guyspeople with Jenova cells that cannot resist her influence. they were all made by Hojo I believe because he loved fuckin around with Jenova cells>who the fuck is LucretiaVincent's not-girlfriend who cucks for him for Hojo and gives birth to Sephiroth>how the fuck do I get to the fucking island in the top rightI imagine it's the island where you get knights of the round, gotta breed a golden chocobo.
>>746066380Sure, systematically, over hundreds or thousands of years, Jenova predation will reduce a planet to nothing. That's its fate. But not its goal or intent.>>746066449No, it wouldn't. Why would the planet's own superweapon destroy it? The Black Materia is not made to destroy the world. It's just the final and most ultimate destructive magic. It hurts the planet like hell, but it would be nonsensical for the Ancients to make a weapon that would destroy their own world.

>Jenova doesn't destroy the planet >it just takes the life force Okay, lets check real quick what the result of that would be: https://youtu.be/O1qeipP8BfM?t=221
>>746066936yeah I agree with you, idk what these anons are smoking. Jenova is basically LAVOS, a planet-level parasite.also, god damn that music cuts like a fucking knife. Ive been playing too much remake trilogy fan fiction. the music is so much worse its fucking unreal
>>746066936It doesn't "take the life force" either. It attacks creatures. Just creatures. It would, eventually, subsume the lifestream via the entire biosphere, yes. That is correct. But that is neither its intention nor its desire. That is an inadvertent process of being an immortal apex superpredator. In other words, it has no similarities at all with Sephiroth's intent to drink the Lifestream like soup so he becomes a god.
>>746067023Shut the fuck up, you illiterate retard.
>>746067023I thought Jenova wanted the lifestream so they had the power/reserves to use it fuck off to find another planet to eat, repeating the process.
the full extent of "is this sephiroth or jenova's will" is left completely ambiguous in the game and claiming you KNOW otherwise is ignorance.
>>746067086Play the fucking game, I know you haven't.>>746067094No. Nowhere in the game is anything like that anywhere implied. Go ahead and look through the script if you want.
>>746067112It is unambigious as it gets. You are ignorance.
>>746067112What's the more satisfying, logical story:>Sephiroth gets driven mad by alien parasite cells, and tricked into carrying out his will. >Sephiroth is so assblasted that they made him super hot and powerful and decides to end human life because of it.
>>746067112It's not ambiguous.
Clones and mind control are some of the laziest tropes one can write.
>>746067194What's a more satisfying, logical story:>Sephiroth is a dumb retard puppet and the real enemy is alien goo>Sephiroth is a living superweapon that turned out to grow beyond the control of his creators and after a lifetime of isolation born of the fear he inspires, succumbs to deific megalomania
>>746067272>hojo is a reliable narrator
>>746067194>Sephiroth is so assblasted that they made him super hot and powerful and decides to end human life because of it.I think he starts to see 'all living things' in a blurred way. We saw the cutscene where the horrific homunculus/monster thing crawled out of the pod in Nibelheim. Sephiroth realises he was 'created,' and in a way, not particularly different to those monsters. Sephiroth is definitely incredibly assblasted before the whole lifestream thing, he burns Nibelheim down, and it's not until the climax of that event that Cloud launches him into the reactor core/life stream.I think Sephiroth's 'safer' form show him as a symbiosis of Jenova in his pursuit to become a godly, ascended being.
>>746065016If you don't have a Gold Chocobo you didn't beat the game.
>>746067135Cope harder.
>>746067370yeah it's hard to tell if Hojo's ego is giving Sephiroth all the credit because then he by extension could take credit for his genius in creating Sephiroth, but he is also the foremost expert in JENOVA that we see ingame so if anyone could say for sure it'd probably be him right?
>>746067370He's the only one who has any knowledge of anything, other than Ifalna and Gast. (And Gast is dead.) The only thing he's wrong about is initially thinking Jenova is an Ancient (which Gast does too, for a time), and he's corrected on that number well before the game begins (he sees Gast's and Ifalna's records just like you do).
>>746067440>PAL versiondid not beat or even play the game.
Oh joy. Let's start from the beginning, what is Jenova? The Cetra were the original stewards of The Planet. They were a nomadic race that walked the Planet cultivating the land and in turn the Planet would speak openly with them and allowing them free use of spirit energy. This was until a meteor crashed into the Northern Continent. Even as the Planet told the Cetra to stay away, the Cetra gathered onto the Northern Continent, trying to reduce the damage. What they didn't know is that they'd just been invaded. Jenova is an alien parasite that was on the meteor. Jenova's chief ability is to mimic the dead. Jenova would disguise itself as Cetran loved ones to get close to them before feeding or infecting them. As the Cetra realized they were at war with an alien invader, they suddenly found themselves fighting their own people. Because Jenova could infect them and make them it's thralls. The war would expand and endanger the Planet so much that the Planet would create is squad of kaiju called WEAPON to try and fight this threat. But WEAPON would never be used. Because the Cetra would push Jenova back to the Northern Crater. But since Jenova was a foreign invade, it couldn't diffuse into the Lifestream, which means it can't die. So it was sealed for what was supposed to be forever. The Cetra's population would never recover and humans, who could not and didn't care to hear the voices of the Planet, would become the new rulers of the world.
>>746067440based Pal pal
>>746067440I know you haven't touched that for 20 years, anon.
>>746067440Based.
>>746065016Jenova is basically a brainless parasite that does absolutely nothing and doesn't matter at all. It's just all sephiroth.
>>746067446sure, it could go either way. hence why I said its ambiguous. Jenova is a cosmic super parasite that never truly dies and sephiroth is a demi god super organism. there is no smoking gun flashing billboard in the game that states who has actually won the tug of war inside his mind.
>>746066613And thats why she doesnt comment on the real fake nibelheimians those are the real ones not the made up ones hojo put in clouds memories.
Even playing the original as a kid I seemed to understand the plot better than OP but still had a lot questions and things that I was actively choosing not to overthink.I guess in the 90s, big epic stories weren't a thing, the writers wouldn't have expected the game to be so significant that it would be getting dissected decades later. The Remake series actually does a much better job with the story, trying to establish a clear progression and lore and giving the story more direction instead of spontaneity and plotholes. Even if they acheive some of this through new slop OC characters.
>>746067593Well, it copies people, but that ability only matters a single time because it's why Cloud's brain gets all fucked up just before FFVII starts.
>>746065058>>746065107Can't excuse dogshit world building

>>746067678>big epic stories weren't a thingin videogames*The significance of FF7 is that it released at a time where game stories were either evil empire or kill the magic dragon. >>746067819It's an automated predator. I don't think it really has a plan
>>746067487Fast forward 2000 years, Shinra has effectively taken over the world. During one of its expeditions, they stumble onto Jenova's corpse. Dr. Gast unknowingly confuses it as a Cetra because it's still in disguise. This leads to The Jenova Project. The purpose of the Jenova Project was to create a person with the abilities of The Cetra, in hopes they could hear the voices of the Planet and lead Shinra to The Promised Land, a Cetra prophecy that describes a land of infinite happiness and nature. Which to Shinra means infinite Mako that they could put a Reactor onto. Like imagine reading the Bible, getting to the passage that says Heaven has streets of gold, but rather than choosing to live a holy life, you search Jesus's Tomb to invent a clone that could lead you to heaven, so you can send the army to harvest the gold. None of this matters. Because Jenova isn't an Ancient. And Dr. Gast wouldn't realize the horrible mistake he made until speaking with Ifalna. After learning what he just set loose, he quit Shinra and went into hiding with Ifalna, where they would conceive Aerith. But the damage had already been done. The Jenova Project was passed to Hojo and Hojo would use Jenova to conceive Sephiroth, a man who has Jenova's cells fused into him in the womb.

>>746067846I'm not trying to bait. It's a slightly different story and you can hate it for that but there is objectively a higher level of effort and resources being put into the story of the remake series vs the original game which was slapped together in a couple of months.
>>746067872This is basically what the mistranslated original English version was
>>746067356I like a mix of the two honestly. Sephiroth has some level of agency but still seeks out JENOVA's ends in a way. JENOVA couldn't merge with the life stream, while Sephiroth could so he became aware of things that could expedite the process of eating everything on the planet, by cracking open the nuogatty center of the world and slurping up the lifestream in one go, allowing him to ascend and allowing her to fufill her base needs, and return back to the nomadic planet eater lifestyle she had before she went on ice.
>>746067983No, anon. That's not how it works at all. Jenova eats PEOPLE. The meat and the bones and the blood.

Jenova does the lot.Post-Nibelheim incident Sephiroth is just an entombed, braindead vegetable, but still a super-soldier puppet that Jenova requires to cast Meteor, and use as a convenient carrot on a stick to manipulate Cloud and co. into bringing them the black materia. All the "Sephiroth is actually the master" bullshit was just retconned after his popularity ballooned post-release, and anyone that thinks Sephiroth is in control in the original game is just falling for the same shit that Cloud does.

>>746068767I think the most time passes the more FFVII crystalizes as one of the most beloved retro games, probably in part because many of its theme have become a lot more relatable over time. That means a lot of people gravitate towards it. And there's just simply a fuckton of things you can discuss about the game.
>>746068997FF6 was FF7-beta. It's story was very basic, only deceptively big due to the large cast but each characters individual arc is not very fleshed out and in the ruin arc of the game, you're kind of making your own story. It doesn't all blend together, you've got iconic moments and flashbacks slapped together with no real cohesion.

>>746065058For real. Video games are not that complicated.
is this game from a gameplay standpoint worth playing like someone could ignore the story and have with it
>>746069814Do you like three niggas in a row games? It's not exactly a challenging one. The story is the main draw.
>>746069091I've always interpreted jenova being the real driving force behind sephiroth as the big "twist" of the game. It's also how ff3 and 4 kinda did it. There's not much of a surprise about sephiroth being sephiroth. You wouldn't need to introduce the jenova lore if she's pointless anyways. I've also not kept up with all the bullshit like advent children or what kinda headcanon 40 year old insane cat ladies with a sephiroth obsession are pushing.
>>746069814Unfortunately its too easy, enemies dont have enough gimmicks that require strategy, but its just a comfy game. All FF are like that, you could make it more dificult on purpouse, there are difficulty mods.
>>746069609Yes it's one of two scenes that explain backstory and are missable. The other is returning to the mansion basement after Cloud gets his memories back and seeing the scene that explains how he has mako power + his relationship with Zack
>>746070070I suppose the Lucretia scenes could be considered missable as well with vincent being optional + those scenes themselves at the hidden cave being optional as well.
30 years of remakes, mods and sequels and these niggas are still ignored.I cant believe it. They appear in the BEGINING FOR FUCKS SAKE
>played FFVII like 15 years ago >didn't resonate with me at all >ended up hating it >spent years calling it shit and overrated in /v/ threads >ffvii threads never stopped >at some point begin to wonder why exactly I hated it so much >decide to give it another shot >find out that I had forgotten basically the entire story >pick up on a lot of nuance that went over my head the first time >end up enjoying the game a lot I won't go as far as saying that it's one of the best games ever made, like many FFVIIfags do, but it's certainly a great game.

>>746070578You're basically saying the game is held together by a plot twist, which isn't exactly a compliment.
>>746070519The original game used the same model for the train guards and the general wich was a mistake. But they shouldnt have deleted the guards and retcon them into being blue grunts.

>>746065016>was sephiroth jenova?Yes. >>746068293>Jenova does not normally look like Sephiroth. >>746069091I prefer your interpretation, honestly, but a few factors make it less likely:>why bother making cloud give the black materia to sephiroth's true body? >>746071728>>Sephiroth barely gives a fuck about CloudIn a single cutscene when he first starts being able to make a body for himself via Jenova. In every interaction following it he clearly takes delight in seeing Cloud suffer.

Also what would Tifa telling Cloud he's full of shit accomplish, other than possibly breaking is psyche and risk losing him? Would he even believe her if she did? She had no real evidence, it was just her word against his. Also Cloud unintentionally gaslit Tifa into doubting her own memories. >>746065574It's Jenova physically, but mentally Sephiroth has been pulling the strings the whole time. >>746071959>why bother making cloud give the black materia to sephiroth's true body? If Jenova only needed a native lifeform to cast meteor, then any of the soldiers/clones would do.I believe it's more than just needing a native lifeform. Maybe it's Sephiroth's natural superior ability, or the subconscious planetary knowledge Sephiroth gains in the lifestream in exchange for losing everything else, or that Cloud's subconscious might block the casting of the spell even if he knew how.>what is the point of making jenova a separate boss at the end of the game if they are the same entity? other than giving the player a chance to fight sephiroth, of courseJenova Synthesis is just another separated part of Jenova like the preceding Jenova battles were, and Jenova cells still reside within Sephiroth's Bizarro and Safer forms. Hence the physical form changes. Plus it's a videogame, specifically a JRPG, so a dragged out finale with multi-form bosses are the standard, and going through Synthesis-Bizarro-Safer and ending with the metaphorical 1-on-1 Cloud Vs Sephiroth battle is an inversion to "normal" boss fights where the enemy starts human and then gets more grotesque.

>>746072998Yep. There's such pervasive misinformation that it's fossilized as necrotic fanon, and as you can see in this thread alone, questioning that fanon gets people upset. >>746069023>Its his Zack alter ego talking to his real personalityit's not zack's alter ego, because the flashback voice said, "I only got scraped knees back then..." as a callback to Cloud as a kid, during the official traumatic event that kicked off his illusionary delusion (him falling off the mountain with Tifa). The voice talking to him in the beginning of the game was Cloud (i.e. himself) as a kid. Also it seems that Areith knew that cloud was lying about himself, since during the date section she says that she wants to know the ACTUAL Cloud. The question remains: Was his illusion created by him intentionally, or was it created after he was injected with all of dat "mitochondria juice" of jenova? In a word, did he willingly put himself into his delusion, or did it come about by the testing he undergone? He was a puppet, like all blackrobe numbers, afterall. It would seem that it would make no sense that a person would willingly make an illusion, and fall for that illusion at the same time.It would make more sense that after experimentation, he adopted those illusions unwillingly, as a result of the trauma he experienced and the experimentation he was put under (i.e. jenova injection + mako bath). All of the black robe persons are puppets, and part of his own transformation was being succumbed to the delusion that he was zack.

>>746067487>Oh joy. This shit would have made for a better game than Remake slop. Seriously, this is the only FFVII Completion that really matters. This could have been a cool idea for a Thing styled AA-AAA horror jrpg. Goddamn what a waste of a company.

The original one has a lot of errors and mistranslation. And before a flood of people rush in "OMG no it's perfect you just can't read!" The game has so many mistranslations people literally created fan theories about what certain things mean. Only for them to get destroyed with later anthology games and Advent Children/Crisis Core. The few things that never really made sense to me :- In the Nibel reactor, what is actually going on? The idea is that mako energy is turning people into monsters, but to what end? Who are they, previous Shinra soldiers? The one we see kinda ressembles Ifrit, I like to believe they are crystallizing people into powerful materia, to use them as weapons, but that's just my headcanon. But then who is being selected as future monsters? Mako/Jenova infusing successes already become Soldier and failures become basic army. What is the point of Jenova being here? Is she also being experimented on, or simply providing cells to the other monsters in the next room? If they are soldiers, they should already have received cells, do they need a constant supply? Anyway- Sephiroth, the n°1 soldier, elite of shinra and son of Hojo, war hero and highest ranking officer, apparently doesn't know that Shinra is making weapon and supersoldiers experiments with mako?- And most importantly, why the fuck would they send a bunch of nobodies inside the reactor if that's such a state secret? Why not have Sephiroth escort Hojo and his team of scientists to the door and leave them alone inside while they fix it?
>>746081137Oh and also :- Sephiroth sees a monster in a tank and immediatly goes "omg he... he's just like me :)"? Wtf
>>746080810I can't believe how badly they ruined both those scenes in 7R.They didn't even do the Areith punching scene at all in 7R they completely fucking bitched out and removed a ton of events.instead of having their gay faggot tranime kingdom hearts party memebers be like>nooo cloudo you can't kill soldiers! uwu (even tho we killed thousands of them in the original game) that's scary. stop it cloudo your scarring me!! uwu>AHHH NOO CLOUD YOU CAN'T KILL THE TURKS Square says they are marketable characters! I'm literally pissing my pants in fear that you would kill a mass murderer cloud, that's not like you. They could have had cloud violent beat the shit out of Aerith when he was meant to and made an impactful scene out of it.but I think they realised that the thing that masquerades as Aerith in the tranny demakes is so trashy and unlikable that players wouldn't care if she got the shit beaten out of her.
>>746081137>- In the Nibel reactor, what is actually going on? The idea is that mako energy is turning people into monsters, but to what end? Who are they, previous Shinra soldiers? The one we see kinda ressembles Ifrit, I like to believe they are crystallizing people into powerful materia, to use them as weapons, but that's just my headcanon.Hojo's older experiments into mako-enhanced super soldiers. They lost their human form and rationality due to the extremely dense mako, so they got put in the mako tanks and just kind of forgotten about because Hojo is the type of jackass to go on to the next experiment without euthanizing his failures.>But then who is being selected as future monsters? Mako/Jenova infusing successes already become Soldier and failures become basic army.Anyone Hojo gets his hands on as research subjects. Some are delivered to him by Shinra as he requisitions them, others are just kidnapped. Hojo is worse than any monster on the planet.>What is the point of Jenova being here? The Jenova Project began in Nibelheim. The Project S offshoot as well was founded there. They did their main research on site. Jenova was left there since they had plenty of cells and could harvest them at leisure, but once Sephiroth burned Nibelheim to the ground, they relocated it.>- Sephiroth, the n°1 soldier, elite of shinra and son of Hojo, war hero and highest ranking officer, apparently doesn't know that Shinra is making weapon and supersoldiers experiments with mako?He always suspected, but no, Shinra does not advertise its crimes against humanity.>- And most importantly, why the fuck would they send a bunch of nobodies inside the reactor if that's such a state secret? They were not assigned to visit the reactor, Sephiroth did it on a whim. They were on a dragon hunting mission.
>>746081321>They were not assigned to visit the reactor, Sephiroth did it on a whim. They were on a dragon hunting mission.No. It was a two part mission, monster extermination then figuring out a "malfunction".The malfunction was presumably the mako pods opening up and spitting out the mako monsters. So obviously soldiers have to deal with that, scientists would just get eaten by monsters.
>>746081380That does sound right, sorry. The whim was going back to the mansion to delve into the Jenova Project afterwards.
>>746080947Ultimania Omega:As for the mentally and physically strong, carrying Jenova's cells inside their bodies will not cause them to receive Jenova's influence, and they will not become a puppet of Jenova like the Sephiroth Clones, but will instead become a SOLDIER possessing strength far beyond that of a normal human being. In Zack's case, he had already successfully received the SOLDIER procedure previously, and undergoing experimentation as a Sephiroth Clone did not make him into a puppet of Jenova; he retained his normal human behavior to the end. However, unlike Zack, the residents of Nibelheim were perfect in the role of Sephiroth Clones for Hojo's experiment. As for Cloud, like the other residents of Nibelheim -- [who all became perfect] Sephiroth Clones -- being unable to withstand the SOLDIER treatments, he could not retain himself and his mind completely collapsed. When reunited with Tifa in Midgar, though, the coherence of being normal would return to him and he would gain a personality that essentially let him be his own person, even if confusion would come of it.Also noteworthy is Sephiroth's unique case. Until the secret of his birth was known, he had legendary strength of which he was proud, but 5 years ago, he began walking a different road from that of humans. However, he was unwilling to be placed under Jenova's control and became he leader himself, with its actions falling under his control in the end. This fact resulted in Sephiroth gaining a new sense of strength.

>>746081321Just one amendment even though I mostly agree with you>They were not assigned to visit the reactor, Sephiroth did it on a whim. They were on a dragon hunting mission.Sephiroth specifically tells Zack/ Cloud>Sephiroth>Our mission is to investigate an old Mako reactor.>There have been reports of it malfunctioning, and producing brutal creatures.>First, we will dispose of those creatures. >Then, we'll locate the problem and neutralize it.So Sephiroth always intended to find out why the Reactor was malfunctioning, he just didn't know the reason was Hojo's previous experiments with hyper dense Mako was the cause. If you have to ask the question "why would Shinra send Sephiroth to the one place in the world that had information on his birth," well the best you're going to get is Crisis Core. When the previous director for SOLDIER was ousted, SOLDIER was reorganized into Shinra's regular army under Heidegger. And Heidegger is fucking stupid. So when the Reactor started malfunctioning, he allowed Sephiroth to go there because he had no idea of the significance of Nibelheim.
>>746081521That just repeated what I said.
>>746065789Exactly - but I can only presume it's remake / compilation retconners who will spin their "uh but sephiroth was really in control" and that it's only by coincidence that he goes apeshit mad and wants to do the exact thing the ancient cosmic planet consuming mind-manipulating entity wants to do as well as soon as he come into contact with said entity.

Why did it have to be Cloud specifically? It didn't matter to the story or the characters in the slightest. Absolutely nothing about this was thought through.

In Remake, the Gi are themselves aliens. Just like Jenova. Their world was absorbed The Planet... somehow. And since they're foreign to The Planet, the Lifestream doesn't accept them. So now they can't die. The Cetra gifted them the caves of Cosmo Canyon but thousands of years of no release has driven them crazy. Jenova doesn't have any idea that it exists.Because Jenova is an instinctual being that travels from planet to planet via meteor to consume its lifeforce before moving on to another planet via a new meteor of the planet she just destroyed.Cetra sealing away Jenova for centuries calls for another meteor event to call another lifeforce surge. Sephiroth aims to bring that about. Wait, where does this “everyone died at the end” come from? I’m one of those niggers that hasn’t played this game in 25 years. Is it from the post credit scene of Red XIII seeing Midgar covered in trees n shit? >>746085536>Is it from the post credit scene of Red XIII seeing Midgar covered in trees n shit? It's because that is all the ending contains, yes. >>746085816Anon, we're talking exclusively about content within FFVII, everything that came after is helmed by a different director.
>>746085536The problem is, it does the whole "hundreds of years later" and the only character we see is Red XIII and his kids. This makes a lot of people think all the humans disappeared. Especially since there was more than a few games and anime around this time which were using similar endings. Though End of Eva came out 6 months after FF7 did so it didn't influence them. But a lot of people saw both way later and conflate them. But even if you never saw Eva and only consider the ending in a vacuum, their use of cinematography leaves the ending ambiguous. I tend to think one scene showing Midgar covered with greenery is a symbol that humans just abandoned technology and not that they all disappeared. But it still isn't confirmed. It was only confirmed later when they started making sequels.

>>746077951You need to get into theorycrafting youtube. Stop caring about the story being "good" or "bad" and watch people talk about the lore for a few hours.Soon you won't actually care what is happening in the plot anymore and all that matters is what it adds to the lore. For example Nero showing up in Remake is not good for the story, but it IS good for the lore and the theories.Once you're a fan of FF7 theorycrafting literally everything that happens in the story, no matter what, is good - because it expands the lore. You can apply this to all the FF games and suddenly "bad writing" or "plotholes" simply disappear.

There was probably the usual bits and pieces done by all four over different areas. Not to mention we also know based on interviews that it wasn't just those four. A lot of side quest material and decisions with the FMV sequences and so on were done by lower rank people we never hear about. Because they were on such a crazy deadline they had people working 20 hour days just doing totally random stuff. This is why some areas of the original PS1 game feels like the graphics or story tone changes out of nowhere. They didn't have time to check every single scene and do full playtests.

But, due to the severity of the wound, it was only able to heal itself, over many years>The life force of all living things on this Planet becomes the energy. That land is withered so they must cultivate elsewhere.>When the Cetra... were preparing to part with the land they loved...That's when it appeared!Jenova did come to them as they were leaving. Conveniently as they were helping the planet heal itself, cutting off Jenova's energy source, and heading off to cultivate elsewhere on other continents.>Times... have changed. The Planet... is probably watching this situation closely.Shinra, the new threat, is draining the planet's energy as Jenova did before its confinement, and they have moved Jenova from the North continent.

>>746086412In short, you completely lack a single line here to actually back up your claim that Jenova reacted to the Cetra healing the planet. Because both 1. their attempts failed and 2. they were preparing to depart as Jenova attacked. On this matter the second point is very clear; they weren't helping the planet, they were outright leaving in abject failure. They were NOT going to go cultivate elsewhere, that wouldn't help at all to begin with because the planet's healing is a localized process via the Lifestream gathering in the fixed location. You will continue to spin some vague yarn which never directly addresses the point or actually helps your supposed angle.
>>746086163You are insulting a lot of theorycrafting fans ITT.
>>746086502>Allow me to address your previous retardation.I wasn't the person you were responding to before. As you should have been able to deduce by me not continuing his argument and even confirming part of your point. But you're so in rage you had to jump to attacking my points just to "win."On that note, you're also not exactly right about how directors work. Directors are not dictators who direct every single aspect. They might adapt some parts of a script. Sometimes they might even rewrite the script. Other times they largely direct the execution of the script. With FFVII, it's really murkey where that line is. Because we've had dozens of interviews with conflicting information from all involved of which person did which thing. And some of them like Nomura even saying stuff like "I don't remember who came up with [x] idea." This is actually one of the reasons he initially said he didn't want to direct FFVII Remake. Because he felt like other people understood the original better. And, in his own words, he would probably change a bunch of stuff. Which ended up happening. But a large part of the changes came from Kitase, Toriyama and Nojima as well. And since Nomura left the project early, we're going to now see how much is changed without him being there.
>>746066579Wait, I never considered that this is how the Supernova attack ties into the story, I always just saw it as a cool attack

>>746065107Well, it's text on an image, so it must be true.
I like that you spend so much time being angry at the haters, wishing you could talk only with fellow fans. But when you get that, you're more angry than ever because the other fans have different opinions or interpretations to you. You'll never actually be happy, because even when you get your way, it's non stop conflict and fury. A very miserable life. Autism really is a curse.
>>746081489Why. Doesnt. Tifa. Bring up the real fake real nibelheim people?
>>746087561What's to bring up? Cloud says the place burned down, the Shinra actors deny it. Is she supposed to take them to court?
>>746087561Cloud was actually one of the guards, remember? Sephiroth killed everyone in Nibelheim when he burnt it down so Shinra replaced everyone with actors as a cover up. Hm but wait Cloud should know that and not he surprised by the replacements.
>>746087561She kind of does. But only briefly. Saying "it wasn't like this..." and then trailing off. Then Cloud comes to the same conclusion later on. The problem is the game has to keep delaying the reveal to have the big shocking reveal in a cutscene later. Very common issue in FF games.
>>746086592>>746087707This is just Cloud creating his own fake identity and not stealing Zach's because he was told that his memories were actually Zachs. Cloud was made by Hojo in a lab and is a failed experiment Hojo dumped on the streets of Midgard.
>>746086632>their attempts failedYeah, Jenova's a significant threat. The North Continent withered from the of the energy being drawn from it and the planet still cannot heal because Jenova persists.>they were preparing to depart as Jenova attacked. On this matter the second point is very clear; they weren't helping the planet, they were outright leaving in abject failureThe game is very clear "the Cetra tried desperately to cultivate the land so as not to diminish the needed energy". There was nothing more that could be done on a withered continent so they had to go elsewhere, which is when Jenova attacks specifically "When the Cetra... were preparing to part with the land they loved".>because the planet's healing is a localized process via the Lifestream gathering in the fixed location. The healing is localised, but the source of that energy is "the life force of all living things on this Planet". If you remember Bugenhagen's demonstration of death and rebirth it doesn't matter where on the planet that life comes from, it returns all the same
>>746087803>The North Continent withered from the of the energy being drawn from it and the planet still cannot heal because Jenova persists. The planet's healing it just fine. It takes eons to heal a grave wound. Jenova has no part in it, that is again your fanfiction. The land withered because the Lifestream had to consolidate from the whole Northern Continent to just the Crater to heal it.>The game is very clear "the Cetra tried desperately to cultivate the land so as not to diminish the needed energy". There was nothing more that could be done on a withered continent so they had to go elsewhere, which is when Jenova attacks specifically "When the Cetra... were preparing to part with the land they loved".Yes, anon, you are indeed reciting the events that occurred, and NONE of it logically connects to the plot thread you were trying to weave. None of it indicates that Jenova was attacking the Lifestream, or that it moved to attack the Cetra because they were doing any healing. You are not proving your points.
>>746087561
>>746087786That's a new fanfiction I hadn't heard yet. Completely wrong, of course, and makes no sense at all because where the fuck would he get the Buster Sword?
>>746087925>The planet's healing it just fine. It takes eons to heal a grave wound. Jenova has no part in itMeanwhile in the game"The Planet knew it had to destroy the 'crisis from the sky'...""You see, as long as Jenova exists, the Planet will never be able to fully heal itself."
>>746088005Because it's watching Jenova. It isn't committing fully to healing so long as the dangerous interloper is still present. The wound in the northern crater is no longer severe, the planet is in no danger from it.
>>746085463>Quote the game, even onceI did. Multiple times. Both from Sephiroth (which you headcannoned away) and the temple of the ancients (which you suggest the meteor arrival has nothing to do with jenova's motivation to consume all life on a planet). You are being hyperbolic. There is nothing "incoherent" here.On top of this, (as others have posted) the cetra speaks of the "calamity" (i.e. jenova as the existence of planetary extinction) event that seeks to wipe out all cetra (a lifeforce-attuned people) and threatens to end all life (i.e. the lifeforce). And moreover this is why the cetra developed holy magic in the first place. Jenova is thus anti-lifeforce, not just hostile to individuals, but to planetary life itself. And the most evidence comes from sephiroth, which again you headcannoned away.1) Wound the planet (via meteor event exactly the same as jenova's arrival) via black materia.2) The planet's natural defense is to gather the lifestream to heal the wound.3) When lifestream converges, Sephiroth (who is fused with jenova) absorbs it - at behest of his "mother" - becoming a new god (jenova) himself.Jenova cells are framed as jenova being drawn toward life energy. The weapons themselves arrive due to an existential threat to the planet. Something which endangers ALL life. The whole point of Aerith, her whole character arc, exists as a counter to this extinction-level event. The game itself frames Holy vs Jenova/Meteor as a battle for planetary existence. This is the endgame, the goal, of jenova.>why did Jenova not consume the Lifestream the second it touched down. It tried, but the cetra was aiming to prevent that from happening. They created holy. Her motivations are instinctual and also suggests deception via "friend turned to enemy".Sephiroth seeks to create the conditions for her instinctual drive to consume all life, thus merging with that very same instinct.

THAT IS SEPHIROTH'S PLAN. IT IS NOT "AT JENOVA'S BEHEST". HE CAME UP WITH IT HIMSELF. BECAUSE HE WANTS TO BECOME A GOD. >>746088310>IT IS NOT "AT JENOVA'S BEHEST"He literally says it's because this was what his mother wants, because he clearly read up on the event which occurred 2000 years ago in part of his realization. It's coming from his research. Not "it was revealed to him in a dream."The Cetra also confirm this, it is seeking lifeforce to consume (an example: them). The mural does as well, depicting an extinction level event on the basis of meteor arriving.>NO! THEY ARE NOT!She is an instinctual creature (akin to a biological virus) that cannot devise the meteoric event herself so there needs to be a sephiroth character to bring it about. >"Tifa, what's happened to our town? Was it all an illusion, or just a dream? No, it was neither. I remember trying to get people out of the flames, but not having the strength... I felt saving you was far more important than going after Sephiroth. Whether that means sephiroth is in control or not is still up for debate. And after ALL this, you suddenly land dead on the money: Jenova could not devise this plan, nor even conceive of it. But no. It is not up for debate. It means that Sephiroth had a great idea to become a god, and Jenova has no part of it except for being his greatest weapon.

>>746067678Lol. Sakaguchi, Nojima and Nomura purposefully make the stories hard to fully grasp when just taking in the game for the first time, and left a lot of shit to be investigated or determined by the players after that. Go watch Akira or Ghost in the Shell or any of that kinda stuff from around that time, it is very hard to 'get it' all in one go. If you want to go even further back you watch something like Rashomon.
>>746069091I think that you can't meaningfully distinguish Sepiroth from Jenova after the Nibelheim incident. The two are fused and you can't really tell who is who anymore. Which bits of Jenova's actions are caused by Sepiroth and which are caused by Jenova's drive.
Sephiroth is the good guy in the story. What if he just wants to ascend into an Eldrich Outer God like Bloodborne guy and needs to eat the planet. Just let him eat. Maybe Jenova knows about other worse Outer Gods like Bhunevelze and just want to destroy them
>>746090051Leave? The Cetra weren't going to leave the Planet, that makes no sense. >>746090308The difference is, FF writing isn't on the level as those other things. FF games are often obtuse because of flow problems, key plot points are optional, they delay key information until big reveals or info dumps, etc. Final Fantasy writing is closer to something like Gundam or battle shounen.
As overrated as I think FFVII is, its incredible how we can discuss it 30 years later with minimal chimp outs besides those of atlusfags. Even zoomers behave themselves when talking about it
>>746091093This is why it's important to watch youtube videos that explain all the lore. You can always tell what idiots on /v/ refuse to do so.

>>746091747I've always held that FF7 is both overrated and underrated. The big moments get sucked off so much and yet it'll do small things that make me think "hey that was pretty cool." Like everyone and their dog talks about how Sephiroth is a parallel to Aerith. Or how Sephiroth is a parallel to Cloud. But do you know who my favorite parallel characters are? Barret and Reeve.
>>746091973No matter how badly they act, I don't like to see shippers being made fun of.
>creators themselves say Sephie was the antagonist>arts major retards who are full of themselves and think they can see beyond still argue it was Jenova all along
>>746092085Sephiroth is the antagonist who is both the driver and barrier to the protagonist Cloud. Hojo was the villain who set the events in motion, showed no remorse for causing it and even tried to keep it going.
>>746092085Next you'll be telling me autistic americans who played FFVIII with a mistranslation don't know the story of FFVIII better than the people who wrote it.
>>746092079Tifa and Aerith are both very important parts of Cloud's development and trying to decry the other girl is idiotic.
>>746065016>anons call op retarded for not understanding the story>proceed to start infighting about story beats as usualYou niggas just can't admit Japs can't write for shit.
>>746092193Don't criticize shippers
>>746092193Honestly, in the original game, Aeris doesn't add much. Most of her character is more developing towards the big shocking cutscene and not really building up Cloud. Since many of the scenes with Cloud is him showing indifference to her comments and actions. He doesn't even show much care when she runs off in the middle of the night. But then she dies and suddenly he's all emotional? It's very much like Squall in FFVIII where he not only doesn't show interest in Rinoa romantically but literally tells her off and says she's an idiot 30 minutes before she goes into a coma. Then when she's in a coma, suddenly he's simping over not being able to hear her voice or be annoyed by her.My point is not that Cloud or Squall are bad characters. But that they didn't develop everything up to the the big "impacting events" very well. It's kind of like in Gundam when they'll have a character hang around for 7 episodes, doing nothing but making snarky comments and being a general nusance the main cast ignore. Then suddenly they die and the show acts like it's this big sad event. Uh...no, not really.
>>746093051>le gundamIts a fiction staple in general that's based off real life. You cannot write every single moment that the characters go through for obvious reasons, but you as the player/viewer are supposed to intuit that since the cast would have spent weeks/months together during a tumultuous situation of their lives, they would naturally develop a sense of camaraderie for each other.
>>746093051They establish that about Cloud from the start, from his interactions with Tifa, Barrett, etc. He is a hodgepdge of different characteristics and not just one thing, which has meaning towards what happened to him, and meaning towards him being a human, imperfect MC as opposed to Sephiroth who was seen as the greatest and coolest and now wants to become Godlike. Cloud helps Avalanche but says he dgaf. He says he was Ex-soldier but now tries to act like he dgaf. He helps Aerith but tries to say he dgaf. Planet dying, dgaf. We later found out that he did have a few fuks to give. Up until the end they establish this contradiction as before the final battle Barrett says 'just when I start thinking you are cool yoi do something goofy'. Stuff like this makes FF7 characters, even NPC's and their various personalities, feel much realer and is one reason why so many people attached to it

>>746096146I also get angry when people criticize remake's story even though it isn't finished yet. But it is ok to praise it.
Jenova shares a genealogy with both Lavos and Deus. All three are alien entities which crash land on the planet. They are all parasitic and manipulate the population through subtle means in an attempt to have themselves released. Krelian also tries to fuse with Deus and is overpowered by her. It makes more sense that Jenova repeats the pattern. The only thing I'm really looking forward to in Revelation is Jenova being the true final boss. We know with Bizarro already done in Rebirth that there's going to be a different final boss pattern and Birth of a God is mysteriously absent.
>>746065016>was sephiroth jenova? Sephiroth is a human fused with way too many of Jenova's cell as a baby, to make some cheapo supersoldier. >>746067356The villain being a foil to the hero is a more satisfying, logical story actually.
>>746065016If you don't understand, just play Remake and then Rebirth and then wait for Revelation. This will explain everything.
>>746066728There is plenty in the game that contradicts this. Hojo explains everything when you find Sephiroth in the Northern Crater. He literally says Sephiroth is in control and proves it because he ran a 'Jenova Reunion' experiment where the Sephiroth clones, and even Jenova itself, all travelled to where Sephiroth was in the Northern Crater. The original prediction was that the clones would just go to where Jenova was at Midgar. This not happening and Jenova itself acting the same way as the clones was a surprise to him.
>>746065016>was sephiroth jenova?I don't think it's ever explicitly stated and FF7's plot/development was a fucking mess so I don't blame people for being muddled on this. Ultimania guides I don't really give a fuck about, I think in the game it's ambiguous. After Cloud owns Sephiroth and throws him into the life-stream I think it may as well be 50/50 but it's probably Sephiroth using Jenova's powers with Jenova being subsumed. Sephiroth after going insane is unambiguously evil and so is Jenova (she's basically Lavos with more the Thing thrown in) so does it fucking matter? Seph's goal is to suck the lifestream and become a god and Jenova's entire thing was also about suckage.>why did cloud attack aerith? All SOLDIER have Jenova cells in them. Hojo experimented on Cloud post-Nibelheim which made him temporarily retarded but also sort of the same as what SOLDIERs have had done to them. Having Jenova cells makes you susceptible to manipulation by her and by extension Sephiroth.>who is talking to cloud in his flashbacks?I always assumed it was Zack from the lifestream, especially since Advent Children does similar shit with Zack (again) and Aerith. Could be his subconscious as well, who knows. They watched Evangelion beforehand.>where the fuck does the final set of fights even take place? Deep inside northern crater/epicenter of where the meteor will hit and the lifestream will congregate. The final Seph/Cloud fight is probably in Cloud's mind (he's rejecting Seph's control over him completely) but it could be some kind of mental/lifestream plain. Doesn't matter.>is the ending implying that everybody dies anyways? Nah, just that Shinra was never rebuilt and that the planet is doing well. Probably.>what's the deal with the hooded guys?SOLDIER going insane due to Jenova cells/degradation.>who the fuck is lucretia? Vincent's squeeze before Hojo cucked him.>how the fuck do I get to the fucking island in the top right?Gamefaqs.
>>746101338It wants to reproduce and procure it's own future. Same as the Ancients did, but for an altruistic reason. Barrett learnt the same to preserve the future for an altruistic reason. Cloud learns that it's not only about him, it's for more than that, an altruistic reason, a lesson he got to learn from Zack's sacrifice. Cid learns the same from his escapades, it's not all about him. Aerith was the first one to really get the whole picture and was the Martyr, RedXIII learned this from his father and Bugenhagen. Tifa learned this from Cloud, ironically. Yuffie learned this from her dad and the party. Cait Sith learned this from their time with everyone. Vincent learned this from his own experience and then being awoken by everyone else. Sephiroth never learned this and it being all about him led to his demise.
I guess after having played FF7 and thinking about it, Jenova being will-less makes sense if you look at her behavior. She only EVER attacks you as a thing-tier monster if Sephiroth is around and throws her at the party. She does fucking nothing in Midgar, and she also does fucking nothing in Nibelheim once Seph rips her out of the tube.
>>746104830They don't outwardly explain anything because they want the player to come up with their own interpretation, Sakaguchi told Nomura and Nojima to do this. Nomura came up with the basis of three differenr versions of FF7 during development of FF6, and before Evangelion. Nojima, Sakaguchi and dialogue writers etc. worked with that to make the game. which already took shape before Evangelion finished airing and then they subsequently finished it.
>>746105462Depends on what you determine as will. If I let a cat out of a cage it will either stay in it out of fear, or fleee. If I try to attack it, it will flee or fight. Survival as an instinct is will. The desire to reproduce or take over hosts is will from how I see it.
>>746090687But that implies Cetra moved from planet to planet and the ones who chose to establish a life in one place maybe became humans? If so, hoe did the Cetra migrate to different planets and how did humans become non-Cetra if there were not gaijin to mix with?
>>746081520Yes.
>>746106039> migrate to different planets Meteor.Planet injured by meteor in an already lifeless part of a planet is they only way to access enough of the lifestream at once to power the spell that will fling them to the next planet. That's why Meteor/Sacre exist to begin with.>did humans become non-CetraGreed from exploiting the planet instead of serving it make planet not want to really obey them, or some magical hippie logic in the same vein. Like fantasy druids but JRPG.
>>746104830There's nothing ambiguous about it. The game makes it clear. Anyone still thinking Jenova might be the one in control is a drooling retard who doesn't pay attention.
>>746093508>it's just like le real lifeMedia isn't real life. And it needs to show certain things for the person to understand motivations and actions of characters. If the viewer has to insinuate what characters motivations and actions mean, then the media isn't doing a good job showing it. In the case of FFVII, it's not the worst of the series. But it still goes from Cloud being indifferent to Aeris to suddenly being sad she's dead. And even after she's dead, the game goes from this huge sad scene to snowboarding and silly Turk scenes.
>>746065954VEGETA, WHAT DOES THE SCOUTER SAY ABOUT HIS READING LEVEL!?
>>746108246I'm sorry but if you need a video game to spell it out for you that a jrpg party would be upset if a fellow party member died, then its a personal failing on your part.
>>746108582So you're saying the player should just feel sad simply because a character died. Then Aria dying in FF3 is the exact same as Aeris dying in FF7. Despite dying 10 minutes after you meet her with no build up. And basically every other death scene in the series or any media is the same.Hint: The point is not that the party members would be sad but how you, the player, are impacted. But you're disingenuous ass keeps trying to avoid that point.
>>746065016>was sephiroth jenova?Other way around. Jenova was Sephiroth. The actual Jenova is dead. Sephiroth is using his mom's corpse to telepathically connect to other Jenova-cell bearing Soldiers and ex-Soldier failed experiments like Cloud, to body-morph them into his clones to do his bidding. The real Sephiroth was in the Northern Crater for the entirety of the game.>why did cloud attack aerith?Jenova cells in his body. Sephiroth is trying to puppeteer him.>who is talking to cloud in his flashbacks? His subconscious real self rather than the persona/tulpa he manifested to protect himself from the mental trauma of Hojo's experiments.>why didn't tifa tell cloud that he isn't zack?He knew things he shouldn't be able to know unless he actually WAS there, which makes Tifa doubt her own recollection and makes her wonder if Shinra fucked with her head at some point.>where the fuck does the final set of fights even take place? At the bottom of the Northern Crater, where the Lifestream reaches the surface. That's where Sephiroth - the real one - had been the entire time.>is the ending implying that everybody dies anyways?Intentionally left open-ended. You can read Red's offspring roaming free through the nature-overrun city both as humans having been wiped out, OR as them simply having abandoned the cyberpunk dystopian Midgard city to return to a simpler town life - more in touch with nature.>what's the deal with the hooded guys?Soldiers and ex-Soldier failed experiments like Cloud, all infected with Jenova cells - which make them susceptible to being taken over by Sephiroth. Both mentally and physically; shape-shifting into Sephiroth 'clones.'>who the fuck is lucretia? She was Hojo's lab assistant and served as Sephiroth's carrier mother. Also- she was Vincent's old love-interest.>how the fuck do I get to the fucking island in the top right?Chocobo breeding. Need a Golden Choboco. That island is where you find the Knights of the Round summon.
Dirge of cerberus had good music. There i fucking said it.
>>746108849Are you being dense on purpose? A player's feeling towards party members is a combination of both narrative and gameplay factors. For example, a lot of people dislike Donald in KH because they think he's useless. Similarly, Aeris dying would logically be impactful to many people who used her back in the 90s and she died after all the effort they put into training her up.You damn well know that the Aria comparison is trash too.
>>746108849Retard, the analogue to Aeris would be Galuf. Aria is akin to the likes of Jessie and so forth.
>>746069319>Cloud has jenova cells and literally just said oh wait no im my own person and said fuck you. That bit is actually literally the closing battle of the game where you only have the option of Omnislash limit-breaking against Sephiroth. It's a battle happening in Cloud's mind. That's Cloud pointing Sephiroth to the door to let himself out, and not come back in.
>>746109603>Are you being dense on purpose? The irony when>A player's feeling towards party members is a combination of both narrative and gameplay factors. Good job. You figured out what I was talking about after multiple posts. That build up and impact of a death scene for the viewer was my point. Not how the characters felt. Good job.>Similarly, Aeris dying would logically be impactful to many people who used her back in the 90s and she died after all the effort they put into training her up.It was "impactful" because of the swelling music and cinematography. But I'm pointing out the build up to the scene wasn't done as well as death scenes in other media. Even compared to other FF games. For a lot of western players, it was their first major death scene in a game. While in Japan, death scenes like this were in every FF game. So it was routine by the time Aeris came along. And you could even see it coming if you had played a lot of the games.>>746109732And Galuf was done better. But also, Aria is treated the same as Aeris in terms of intensity. She even has her own song and marketing material to emphasize she's a focus character. And then in the DS remake, they literally make her look like Aeris. But in the end, it just isn't enough build up to make her death impactful. I'm saying it's kind of the same for Aeris in my opinion. Though she gets many more hours on your team, not much of that is development for her character. Unless you have her in your party all the time and take her on the date. All optional things that can be missed.
>>746104239>The original prediction was that the clones would just go to where Jenova was at Midgar. This not happening and Jenova itself acting the same way as the clones was a surprise to him.Why did Cloud end up doing everything he did in Midgar? Because Jenova was drawing him to Shinra tower. Where he successfully created the conditions for Jenova's escape. Hojo just didn't understand Cloud was her primary puppet. You do also meet clones all around Midgar in various states trying to reach her but they're literally too retarded to make the progress needed to enter the tower. Also, during his speech Hojo claims he made Cloud in his laboratory and tells Rufus Cloud is a clone which is bullshit. Hojo saying "The genius that I am" is a clue he's not talking reality and is more concerned with proving his own son is the chosen one.
>>746085272>So crazy they they, and don't ask me to explain this, stole a Clear Materia and turned it into the Black Materia. The Gi invented the Black Materia. Until the Cetra realized what they were doing and took it before they could use it.That actually makes perfect sense. They want to die. They can't die because the planet refuses it. Well- fuck the planet then. Blow the entire fucker up and see if it can still object to THAT.
>>746106039>But that implies Cetra moved from planet to planetIt doesn't. It's a mistranslation. It's supposed to state the Cetra were an itenerant race that would migrate to a certain area of the planet, cultivate it and then move on.The word "settle" is a misnomer and it's missing the qualification of cultivating only the particular region they migrated into. Both combined has led to the false belief in the western fanbase that the Cetra were interstellar planet hoppers. They weren't.
>>746069375>there's just simply a fuckton of things you can discuss about the game.This. It's a big world with a lot of details, and the characters are strongly identified while still also leaving a lot to the players' imaginations."Imagination" is really the key word. Back in the 90s it was understood you were going to be using your imagination while playing a JRPG. That was part of the appeal, in fact. FF7 represented this sort of middle ground where the environments were detailed enough (yet also incomplete enough) that it really got people thinking as they pieced together what it would actually be like to live in the world of FF7 and how the characters would interact with it. This no longer happens because every game's environment is photo-realistic and fully rendered, as are the characters. There are no more mysteries or blanks left to be filled in. There's no fun in imagining the game world anymore because the game world comes to you pre-packaged and fully realized. Every character's dialogue is fully voiced and every expression is painstakingly depicted in 4k. You're no longer playing a game that sucks you into the world by enticing your imagination. You're simply turning your brain off and watching a movie with a controller in your hands. This simple fact is one of the biggest things driving the degradation of video game fandoms; too many dolts who can't think and just wanna watch movies.
>>746113541Except everything Hojo said is consistent with the events in the game. You're also wrong about what Hojo says during his speech. >during his speech Hojo claims he made Cloud in his laboratoryHe says nothing of the kind, it's Sephiroth who says this because Cloud has the Black Materia and is somewhat resisting Sephiroth's will, unlike the other clones who are completely mentally broken. Sephiroth needed Cloud to give uo and submit. He is absolutely a 'clone,' which in this game refers to all the people Hojo injected with Sephiroth cells and Mako in his attempts to prove his reunion theory. Why do you think Cloud had the strength of a Soldier? The reason the clones are initially drawn to Jenova and Midgar is because Sephiroth still hadn't fully woken up after the Nibelheim incident. He had been sleeping in the Northern Crater since that time. The first few times we see Sephiroth in game he is vague and confused and and one point says something like 'the time has come.' This coincides with Jenova's body breaking out of Midgar because this is when Sephiroth takes control of the Jenova cells himself and they all start travelling to where Sephiroth is in the Northern Crater, as Hojo explained.
>my first ff game was 15>open world boyband road trip looked fun>but it got pretty boring after 2-3 hours>no more ff until i tried the demo for 16>the game of thrones setting looked cool>but lost interest again after 2-3 hoursnow i'm thinking of trying ff7 rebirth
>>746118420I see a pattern emerging Anon
>>746103841That's not what a foil is you fucking retard. A foil has to actually have comparisons. You can't just make a vague arbitrary equation and call it a foil.
>>746113541>Why did Cloud end up doing everything he did in Midgar?Zak is bringing him there during their escape, because he want to have a strongly worded meeting with Shinra's higher ups.He get killed 10m from the city's borders, and Cloud just crawl there because that's the only place in sight.
