Both had crazy breakthroughs with Intel being generally better, but then Intel seemed to reach the end of their development branch and that was that.AMD chips improved, slowly, when the gap was never massive to begin with, and Intel on paper still kept up but only by throwing greater and greater wattage at the problem. It got so bad that they split the god damn cores into the ones that actually worked and weak ass idle cores so that it wasn't melting your PC just being on. Then even those performance cores started to score lower in benchmarks To be fair AMD has a similar problem now, just not as bad as they're able to get a bit more performance per watt.
