Honestly I wish they did an alternative game (there's already multiple ways to play the game officially) which specifically only has weaker cards. the most powerful being "medium" cards at best. (not talking about their cost but their abilities)
Like special boosters you buy. Maybe at a price a little lower to attract people including regular players.

The main game's still a bit of a mess even if the last few banlists have been decent, and is due to go directly to hell if they don't preemptively do something about the new Toon support that's been tearing up the OCG with first turn kills and the capacity to set up absurdly powerful boards even if the FTK fails, but on the other hand Genesys is actually a pretty great format so far and the new deck build pack archetypes are all pretty creative and interesting.

Early YGO wasn't entirely vanillas, and MTG had plenty of those too.
It's more that even the stuff with abilities tended to be on the weaker side with a couple exceptions (which in both games tended to be cheap staples and not expensive high-mana/tribute monsters)
>>
>>746091339
>and MTG had plenty of those too.
MTG was made for limited. A low ATK vanilla in YGO would never see play anywhere.
