Can modern games finally use more than 8 cores?

why do i need this

Chips are good to you
>>
Yes. But name a CPU where you'd want to use more than 8 for gaming. Everything is either 8P cores max or cross die latency hell
>>
Trying to escape that Intel psycho in the other thread OP?
>>
>>746077564
Honestly I've not seen whatever that thread is.
>>
Many apps still don't utilize multi core but many utilize threading.

Double it up AMD.

There's a 5800xt (16 cores) for the same price as a 5700x3d where I live, it's quite tempting to me but IDK, maybe it'll be even worse for gaming.
>>
>>746077751
5900XT*
>>
>>746077462
why do you want them to use more than 8 cores?
>>
>>746077751
most games use 6 cores at most, rarely 8 like cp77. 12+ cores is needed if you multitask a lot and for workloads (not games).

I found a cheap 5900XT deal, trying to see if it makes any sense to me.

Bummer. I'll get the 5700x3d I guess.
>>
>>746078237
x3d version is better than the 5900xt, the L3 cache is what's important for gaming.
This is assuming you're going to use linux of course.
>>
>>746077712
I am embarrassed on your behalf for those wallpapers.
>>
>>746078378
I use both, there are some games that I'm too retarded to make it work on linux.

No, you're not, you're self diagnosed. Autism won't land girlfriends or the ability to converse with society.
>>
>>746077506
good single core performance for older games

so more cache = faster? more so than whatever clock speed they list?
is this only for games?
>>
>>746079221
Or you don't have to diagnose yourself with a made up Jew illness and stop being a midwit. You have an overly active ego, not autism, it's as obvious as your usual pajeet-like attempt to put people down.
>>
A CPU's power isn't in its muzzle velocity or its caliber.
It's in its performance. Go look at gaming benchmarks.
>>
>>746079393
But a CPU doesn't have muzzle velocity or caliber. And fuck userbenchmarks and their meltdowns over AMD.
>>
>>746079362
Some games can use cache very well, others not really. I have no idea why it's that the case but based on the benchmarks I've seen it doesn't look like it's based on release date or whatever.
>>
>>746077751
>>746077796
5900XT is still max 6 cores per die.
>>
>>746079391

I know you're just a mentally retarded shitskin but white people have real mental illnesses besides dysentery induced delusions

>white people have real mental illnesses
And last I checked, the majority of them were genetically Jewish. Post nose, rabbi.
>>
>>746079434
Not userbenchmarks.
Gaming benchmarks.
>>
>>746079638
Gaming benchmarks comparing unoptimized UE5 slop? You might as well use emulator-based benchmarks like dolphin to really test your PC, those are more accurate.
>>
>>746079692
You can remain a retard like you are too.
>>
>>746079502
>cores per die
I don't think that makes any difference at all. You either need them for productivity or you don't if the heaviest load you'll do is gaming. 5900XT is 8 cores per die, though.
>>

>>
>>746079752
>I don't think that makes any difference at all
Whether all the threads in use are running on the same die or not on a Ryzen CPU makes a big difference in games. Even on the 16-core CPUs (have a 7950X myself for productivity use) it's better to limit games to run on one CCD only.
>>
>>746077462
i wonder what would happen if they just put like 5 gigabytes of cache at the cpu
>>
>>746080151
That's the trend, it'll get there sooner or later.
>1GB of L3 cache
>>
>>746080151
whatever program that would fit inside the largest layer of cache becomes bottlenecked the the next largest, and at some point of going down this chain of making the caches bigger, the memory doesn't help because the core device itself just can't process any faster.

I'd agree with you if the cores were, like, 4x wider, or 3x faster, but we arent getting 15Ghz on silicon
>>
>>746079972
Uh, I guess that's why the 5900XT is kinda close in gaming performance to the 5800X3D.

I bought an Intel 270k because it's down to around 200 bucks and is competitive with this
>>
>>746077462
It will not happen.
Gameplay code is so tangled that everyone resorts to single-threaded execution of game logic, because otherwise you’ll have race conditions up the wazoo, unless you’re very careful with how you write it (which won’t happen since developers find it hard enough to even build a working product).
