post intellectually ambitious jrpgs
>>746077946every star ocean after 3 sucked, so so3 is actually a good game because it predicted and understood its demise.
>>746077946people bitching about the twist just doesn't get it and i think they are stupid
>>746077946I love my brown loli wife
>>746077946>Missable party members>Max party limitI can't get over this enough to play it through
>>746079917I do not get that decision either.I always made a new save files when i had to decide on characters.I will never pick Roger though
>>746077946this game has a surprisingly good story
>>746077946Non joke answer, Suikoden III and Chrono Cross. Both games were too ambitious for their time/budgets. And need remakes to meet their full potential (and fix some issues).
>>746080086Last good suikoden game.Aged graphically like milk though
>>746080145Looks pretty good for a 2006 game
>>746080145Despite being a massive Suikoden fan, I thought it looked horrible when it came out. That really weird mocap animation and the weird 3D models. But on top of that, movement and battles went at a snail's pace because of the choice of graphics. Pretty much all the games should have stayed 2D. Especially when Konami was giving them Castlevania level budgets. This is actually why the creator left right after Suikoden III (plus the torturous conditions working at Konami).
>>746080353Very stiff animations in battle and on the field and low quality on characters and enemies.Looks great in cutscenes though.Everytime i saw the loading screen's 2d sprites, i wished it looked more like suikoden 2
>>746080048>I will never pick Roger thoughfaggot
Will we get another star ocean game?
>>746080086An 8 hour intro sequence was a decision.>>746080145In fairness Tierkreis (or whatever, not googling the spelling) was not much of a Suikoden game
>>746080353Not really. Dragon Quest VIII came out before that. But the issue is the very low budget. It shouldn't have been a 3D game with the budget they had. None of the Suikoden games should. And they've finally figured it out. The next game is going back to 2D (though the HD2D kind). Time will tell if it actually works. But early reports from Japanese fans say it's surprisingly good.
>>746081102I hope SO2's remake being well received translates to some more faith in the franchise, 5 was the only one that was a real miss for me.
>>746081201This and that one japanese only psp game, that no one remembers, were some odd games.Pretty much killed this series for good>but muh remaster and gachaDid we see a new quality suikoden 6 game? NoIt's over
>>746077946Anything by Tri-Ace.
>>746081509It's been "over" for 20 years. Out of nowhere Konami revived the series. And with more marketing now than they ever gave the old good games. I'm not saying the series is revived. But Konami is actually putting some effort in trying. It is a dick move they're doing it right after the original creator died though. And right after he tried to make a new series to revive Suikoden himself. But since a lot of the people who worked on the old games and Eiyuden are working on the new Suikoden stuff, and because Konami is being hands off so far, I'm going to give it a chance. However if they go back to just making endless prequels instead of building towards Harmonia, I'll be the first to bitch and drop the series again.
>>746081680Nice try with the remaster, even though it wasn't perfect, but going with a gacha next? They lost me there
>>746081826I agree it isn't a good decision. But all I can figure is Konami basically said "you'll make a gacha or nothing." And the developers relented. But all reports so far (the game just came out) is you can basically play it all single player. Only gacha thing is getting optional characters (the non story ones). I don't see why making it a gacha would be at all profitable. But Konami's gonna Konami... The key is, if true, the developers are basically making a single player Suikoden. Just telling management it's a "gacha." We'll see if it is true when it comes out to the west.
>>746079917that's always been a staple in SO up to 3
>>746077946finished it for the first time last week (Sif run)
>>746081985You could say "the last hope" had that one decision on your second playthrough with arumat and faize. Not exactly the same, i know
>>746081948Their decisions on games is atrocious. Just look at silent hill right now. They don't know what they are doing
>>746082220The less we talk about Star Ocean 4 and 5 the better
>>746082858But i liked star ocean 4.Meracle was cute and alternate earth was a pretty interesting scenario
what's a good ejrpg that isn't made in rpgmaker
