What's the most anti-giga retard distro in 2026? Is it still pop linux? I don't want jeetcrosoft to spy on me no more
>>
my retard friend got on linux mint
>>
>>746080665
For gaming it's CachyOS
>>
cachyos or fedora
>>
>>746081012
Among other things such as not having wayland, mint won't update proton to the newest bleeding edge versions by itself, you have to do it manually. That's annoying. Cachyos is easier than mint for gamers.
>>
>>746080665
CachyOS, you normalfags are crowding into it like salmon going upstream.

Mint was designed so your grandma can use it long term without fucking it up
Use mint if you're as big of a fucking retard as you say
>>
I have all my loli porn stores in cachyos external drive
Im gud
>>
>>746081324
That's right, normalfags. Streamers keep sales pitching it, like Linus.
>>
>>746080665
Ubuntoo of course.
>>
do i need to know all the hardware specifics of my old laptop before installing the new os?
>>746081226
surely that doesnt matter if ur just using steam tho?
>>
>>746081529
>old laptop
You should post the specs. What you think of as old may not be so old to others. Also, the UEFI will be more of a problem for certain distros, especially secureboot.
>>
>>746081529
>surely that doesnt matter if ur just using steam tho?
I don't like to go to the proton-ge github and manually download it and extract it to the steam folder. There are fixes for games all the time and I can get the newest proton updates just with cachy-update.
>>
>>746081393
Promise you i'm just a regular retard sweetcheeks.
>>
>>746081689
why are you manually downloading a standalone version of proton instead of using steam's built in version?

Debian. It's always been Debian, and it will always be.
>b-but latest hardware support
Modern hardware spies on you on the hardware level, no OS will change that.
>b-but latest drivers
Don't need them.
>b-but latest games
Nothing worth playing.

mostly productivity with some normie gaming here and there (poe2/sf6) , heard good things about krita and davinci.

I'm just tired of how heavy Adobe programs and Windows became, shit just randomly lags all the time and i have a mid-high tier computer, guessing they are collecting random biometrics.
>>
>>746082416
you don't need anything else than kde, let's be real here

Proton-GE is much quicker to update with the latest community fixes not only for new games but also for any old games that may still not work properly. Also it will fix many problems with broken cutscenes because Valve doesn't want to ship their proton with propriety codecs. Proton-cachyos-slr takes fixes from Proton-GE as well as other community projects and it automatically updates with your system so you never have to bother with changing every game over to the newest version after the update. You can basically forget about ever messing with proton unless it's one of those weird games that will only run on some ancient version.

By that reasoning you should be using opensuse tumbleweed. The Germans refused to celebrate hannukah.
>>
>>746083441
OP doesn't want to be spied on, why would he use German software?
>>
>>746083478
Because opensuse is quietly anti-semitic instead of making a fuss about it like mint. It took a jew trying to shove hannukah in before he was told no we only celebrate christmas.

i3 the best tiling wm out there but its for x11. sway is i3 ported to wayland with some added features. if you're into tiling wms i would recommend one of those

Is it true you can't play online games on linux?
>>
>>746080665
I use nobara without much problem, and i am pretty noob at linux.
>>
>>746090136
Afak, proton GE/ wine doesn t work well with anticheat stuff. I don t play online tough, because i pirate everything.
>>
>>746090136
most online games you can, when people say you cant they're mostly talking about live service fps stinkers like COD or all the other shit like fortnite or apex whatever they're called. but the reason is usually that those games go out of their way to make their anti cheat stuff not work on linux
you can always check protondb.com to see whether a game is playable or not

Anon you got to give us reasons why you don't want KDE Plasma.
>>
>>746080665
just go Mint or Ubuntu. Arch for when you're ready to commit.
>>
>>746095771
KDE gave me screen tearing issues for a while, sometimes after booting from sleep my monitor will spaz out and won't properly display the video output at the lock screen.
Still, biggest reason not to use KDE is bloat. Better than Windows still but a lot of things you probably don't need.
I need to look up debloating it for myself. Maybe try a new DE.
>>
is it bad if I'm doing a lot of tinkering on my Linux pc using ai to try and figure out how to do shit
I am taking screenshots and some notes but none of it is that organized and I feel like I'm kind of just winging it
is that bad
I'm just thinking I might not know 100% how to undo everything or every little thing I've done but I don't know if that's even a problem

Fuck I haven't updated for over a month, brb.
>>
>>746096902
I don't think any exploration of the system and functions are bad, but you may be able to do learn in a more constructive way. Winging it is how most of us start.
You sound pretty new to it. Have you used terminal much? Where exactly are you doing most of your exploring and digging around?
Also, what's your distro?
>>
>>746096726
>bloat
If you're worried about bloat why the fuck are you installing cachyos????
>>
>>746097262
nta
>>
>>746081689
But you don't, you just change the link in updates for proton and then repeat the same command in the terminal once in a while or it will do it automatically if you have automatic updates.
>>
>>746097105
I mean doing stuff like, setting up dkms to rebuild a kernel module automatically to overclock a controller adapter, or setting up a webui for my local LLM and having to figure out the firewall exception to make it go through, or passing qimgv through xwayland instead of wayland so it scales my images probably on my 150% 4k monitor and apparently that works because???
autistic shit like that
I've done a lot of things like that and I feel like I'm not actually trying to properly learn it because ai is sometimes actually good at troubleshooting

By any chance are you using display port? There are a lot of monitors that don't implement it properly, this is likely an issue you'll have no matter what you use.

nah, HDMI from my GPU (nvidia rtx 3070)
