>Xbox Series S held back an entire generation of gaming
>Phil Spencer wanted parity between Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X versions

What did Phil Spencer mean by this?
>>
>>746082750
>Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X

Holy shit, is anyone more retarded at naming consoles than Microsoft.
>>
The point was lower price point box to get people hooked on gamepass subs
>>
>>746082805
Probably nintendo
>>
>>746082750
Generation of what? AI upscaling and frame generation in remakes?
>>
ngl I bought a cheap xonex in spring and I already have more games on it than I did on my ps4pro back in the day, now that most of them are xhueg and 360 games is a different matter kekw, but playing NGB and Crackdown 1 at a crisp 4k is worth every penny
>>
>>746082805
>PS, PS One, PS 2, PS 3, PS 4, PS 5. PS 6...
yeh this took great thinking by the japs
>>
>>746082750
Good. "Holding back" actually just translates into tard wrangling developers.
>>
>>746082750
X Box is tied to the PC. It's Sony that is holding back game generation as seen by their PS 5 no games machine
>>
>>746083695
>holding back gaming by having the most competent machine of them all

Really makes me think
>>
I like my Series S
I don't see how it has held back anything, it just runs at a lower res/frame rate
>>
I've boughted Xbox Series X with disc drive and I'm having a blast
>>
>>746082805
>>746083629
They can't streamline the numbering like playstation at this point because then the xbox would always be one number behind and goycattle would not understand
>>
>>746082750
All my homies hate Lockhart.
>>
The Series S is one of the best consoles I ever owned, whisper quiet, plays everything+OG Xbox and 360 games support (many of them with fps and/or resolution bumps) PLUS it supports emulation up to Gamecube and PLUS you can stream PC games on it thanks to Moonlight in the MS store. Insane value for the price I paid 4 years ago ngl
>>
>>746084171
This. I just wish they sold a separate disc drive just so I could play Xbox/360 library.
>>
>>746084116
>most competent
NTA, but that's the Series X.
It's still true the Series S is holding everything back though.
>>
>>746082750
Parity between One & Series S/X was silly, but the Series S didn't hold a generation back.
The only real difference between the Series S and the X was that the S had a weaker GPU, but they had the same CPU.
So any competent developer could just scale back graphical features for the Series S, much in the same way PC developers do, but of course in the modern day with 'developers' who rely too much of unreal blueprints they're too incompetent to do that and would rather scapegoat their own inadequacies.
>>
>>746084171
10GB RAM and Microsoft's insistence on feature parity.
If MS had given it more ram it would have been fine.
>>
>>746084508
The real minus is the lack of RAM afaik, not the GPU. It has like only 8 GB RAM overall after subtracting OS reserved RAM

Switch 2 has the potential to finally make this weak argument and people who believe in it self delete.
>>
>>746084645
>no 'eck
ick.
>>
>>746084645
unironically the grass on the series s looks the best
>>
>>746084645
The bitch 2 is different because it's a direct iteration on the first so it makes sense to goycattle
>>
>absolute dogshit white male leaves company that he wrecked over the course of several years
>DEI woman hire comes and fixes shit up in.. months?
>>
>>746084821
It would've had the grass if it didn't have 7.8GB of RAM with the Windows API forcing the 224GB/s bandwidth to occasionally drop to 54GB/s

If the Series S had 224GB/s across all RAM modules, it could've been salvaged instead of being out performed by an Xbox One
>>
>>746084857
Still sounds like a skill issue for Xbox
>>
>>746082750
The series S is stronger than the Switch 2, devs are just bitching because they dont want to optimize for weaker hardware while they're happily doing it for the switch 2 right now.
>>
>>746082750
it really didnt
even with the few games this generation got, quite a few of them struggle to run well on base ps5
>>
>>746084957
It is, no matter which version they decide to iterate on it will always look stupid
>Xbox 2
>Xbox 362
>Xbox One-2
>Xbox Series X2
>>
>>746084979
You don't have to optimize for ShitchPoo thanks to Goyvidia DLSS magic, just make it output 360p or something and it cooks up a decent upscaled pic

>>746084979
True except for its 54GB/s bandwidth software failure which makes ruins its overhead as the Switch 2's 68GB/s handheld bandwidth briskly outpaced the Series S.

But could be worse, imagine launching a pc with 44GB/s for a shiitty AMD CPU for 1050 dollarus.
>>
There are youtubers that do side by side comparison and the series s doesn't looks too bad.
>>
>>746082750
This thing would've been perfect if it had a disc drive under the black circle.
>>
>>746085236
>There are youtubers that do side by side comparison and the series s doesn't looks too bad.
>>
>>746085109
Easy fix

Xbox
XBOX 360
XBOX AIO (XB AIO--X)
XBOX SE- S|X
XBOX HELIX
>>
phil's decisions were horrible, and im tired of ecelebs and retarded grandpas on podcasts like cohhcarnage simping for this faggot
he did absolutely nothing to improve the situation for xbox and destroyed the brand and killed the hardware sales
>>
>>746082750
>no gamer left behind

Phil deserved better, he tried to give artisans a chance to run studies and they failed him
>>
>>746082750
Counter argument: If Phil Spencer and the Xbox Series S held back an entire generation of gaming, then we also should have seen an entire generation of creativity getting past the limitations caused by the Xbox Series S. Since we did not see that, and instead saw the same old drivel, Phil Spencer and the Xbox Series S did not hold back an entire generation.
>>
>>746082750
>Xbox Series S held back an entire generation of gaming
>Cost $500 anyways
Holy ripoff. A 6 year old underpowered console should not cost that much.
>>
>>746084116
>the most competent machine of them all
the PC is the most competent machine. This goes back to all computers in the 8 bit era, the 16 bit era and then when the 3d games shifted the gaming industry and killed off the Amiga did things rapidly change. There isn't a single thing the PS can do that the PC cannot do. The PS however cannot do what the PC can do and so it's consoles that hold back gaming.

Depends on your specs
>>

>out performed
will GTA 6 be able to run on a XBox One or a PS 4?
>>

It cost around $300 tho.
>>
>>746086462
Only from risky sellers, used, or refurbished models.
If you want a new console form a reliable seller, then it will cost at least $450.
>>
>>746082750
The series s was apart of the ps4/switch 3rd party game ecosystem.
>>
>>746084259
>we need to call our next console 360, because Xbox 2 vs PS3 is cringe and also entertainment is at the center or whatever
>our next console? Xbox One
>>
>>746086614
I am talking when launched. I would say it would be pretty stupid to pay $500 for a console that will be replaced in a year or so anyway. I bought a Series S when they were launched, I don't' really use it and would use it mostly as a media centre for the TV. I would agree $500 is simply too much money for 7 year old tech. they could have at least upgraded it to be more powerful to justify the price increase.
>>
>>746082750
before the price hikes of components, they actually were a really, really good deal. you could get one for less than 300 bucks easily, there had being some promotions for barely 150 bucks.
>>
>forced developers to optimize and learn how to dev like in the good ol days
>Nooooo you are holding us back! I am being oppressed! Fucking trump.

>Switch 2 comes out (same specs)
>Hmmm yes I will do anything to make my game run on this hardware! Thank you Kamala
>>
>>746087896
Nintendo isn't forcing the games to be feature parity with the big consoles, that's a huge difference.
Switch/Switch2 ports drop features over PS5/PC ports to make it work.
Microsoft wouldn't allow that, so /everyone/ had to have the worse featureset so it could fit on Series S.
>>
>>746088228
poor excuse, games now are not down to any hardware which are more powerful then any that came before (obviously) It is down to lazy coding, how they can simply use shit coding and not have the talent to get the max out of what is on offer. Also having great ideas for games has got nothing to do with hardware.
>>
>>746088228
Wrong, there are Series S specific builds of games that specifically are listed as such with "Series S version" in it and have separate SX version.
