A lot of platformers I've seen come out, just don't look very good. Either they seem low-effort, or they're attached to some kind of gimmick(s) that don't look fun, or the artstyle is just absolute ass(not "this dev couldn't afford an artist" ass, but "this dev made a conscious choice to make his game look like garbage" ass.)
Straight-up there just aren't many that look that appealing. Games marked metroidvania are a little better, but not a lot. At least you can see 3 out of every 10 or so that might be ok.
