I tend to feel this about Nintendo games, and friends would get really mad at me when I said this. Really Mario games and Zelda. Some of their other games I get. Warioware is pretty great.

Most people have no context for what makes something good since they barely actually play games.

Genuinely did not understand why this game was literally #1 top Reddit game. It's not a bad game, but the greatest of all time is a fucking stretch. If I want a good story, I can find a bunch of different books that can tell a more gripping story than a video game.

Titanfall 2

Okay story but very bad campaign gameplay especially the boss fights, so disappointing, only cool part was the time travel level.

Multiplayer was kinda shit too, horrible spawn locations and the mobility is seriously overhyped, you just snap to walls and walk along them without having true freeform movement unless you use the grappling hook but good grappling hook players stop being part of the game and instead just kinda keep swinging around giving you too tiny a window to interact with them.
Sad!
>>
>>746099104
Why is Reddit your standard for quality?
Literature is the worst medium for storytelling. Ever heard of "show don't tell"?
>>
>>746099104
It's designed to be just like the TV slop they consume, that's why they like it so much
Mind you the game itself is fine, maybe even good (on Grounded). But the story is the most generic, boring shit ever. I haven't played 2 yet but I imagine it's the same thing.

I've never really gotten this webm. If someone dislikes a game because they're "playing it wrong", how is that their fault? Within the limited scope of that person's experience, isn't it still the game's fault for not making the "correct" way of playing intuitive enough for the player to discover on their own? I feel like it changes nothing and is still a failing of the game in the mind of the theoretical player

Okay, I'll admit, you almost got me.
Also, Reddit is the easiest place to find the general consensus on a particular topic--at least general as it relates to terminally online, delusional leftists. But it's something.
How do I get a general consensus opinion on 4chan? I can't because the entire site an antithesis to general consensus.
>>746099232
Breaking Bad was also the #1 GOAT TV show and I didn't like it either. Of course, when I said this, I was called a contrarian; but that just proves their limited understanding of what an actual contrarian is. A contrarian states the opposite consensus despite their own personal opinions, not share a genuine opinion about something.

I like some of them, Prime is a favorite, a lot of the others I think are okay. Even when I was a kid I wasn't a huge fan of Super Metroid, though I get the appeal of that one at least.
I've noticed with Metroidvanias I really don't like ones where you shoot, vs. have a melee weapon. I don't know why, but this is consistent in games I've played.
>>

Granted, but it does a hell of a job of weeding out the absolute garbage. How many shovelware games would you needed to have sifted through to find kino like Mage Kanade Dungeon Quest?

Same. Ironically, before TLOU 2 the first game was frequently praised as one of the best game of all time for a lot of people. It was just mid. TLOU 2 on the other hand it's still to this day get shit on it like a pariah, but when I have played it it was one best things I have ever played. The combat, the the graphics, and especially the bold story and direction, the second game was just 100% better than the first one. The story is not 100% good, but just the boldness of it, the emotional twists, the gut-punching way of shwoing reality and the cinematography of this game makes it 1000% worthy the experience. I probably seems like a shill throwing buzzwords, but I love this game.

The combat sucks. There isnt a single gun in the game that feels fun to use. Also hacking enemies feels terrible and completely ruins the pace of fights

The main story is fun the first time around, but on replays you realize your choices dont really matter and dialogue options are there just to make you feel like youre interacting with the game when in fact youre just stuck watching a 40 minutes long cutscene.

That's why I said I didn't like it not that it was bad.
But this was interpreted as some sort of contrarian attack, from someone I knew, as it's something that the general consensus enjoys. I don't typically enjoy what the general consensus enjoys, thus the easiest scapegoat for the average TikTok/Twitter user is to search for is a buzzword that locks you into a defined ideological frame. That way they don't need to bother with understanding your opinion or why you dislike something, they can surmise them from strawman. This makes sense if you think about it. The kind of person who doesn't question the status quo is going to be frightened about the idea of someone outside of that system influencing their own ideologies. It's like when you're going through the reviews of a product you want to buy but you only look at the first couple fearing that one or two negative reviews might poison your well of indecision and sway you towards not purchasing the very thing you really want to purchase.

In a nutshell he starts off not being able to be taken seriously as a lawyer because everyone assumes that he is complete trash. This is largely due to his reputation as a public defender but also him being held back by his brother who recognizes Jim for the conman he is. This ends up with Jim having a dead end job and is unable to move forward with his career legitimately. So he starts doing underhanded tactics to get ahead and even starts his own legal profession. Eventually he gets more and more currupt in the persuit of power and wealth until the whole Walter White fiasco happens. Recognizing this is basically the end of the line for him, he diguises himself and disappears to Nebraska where he is inevitably discovered and decides to make things right as much as he can and turn himself in.

I get all that but this dude had an out multiple times, including being hired by a different law firm as a genuine serious lawyer for being a key figure in a big case. His work legitimately got recognized, his career WAS moving forward.
He threw that in the trash. Dude had to put in real effort to get fired too. Some "Dick Dastardly stopping in first place to cheat" type shit. Spends like 90% of the show being a broke bitch too, dude could've worked there for like a year or two, not even bust his ass the way he had to previously, and would've been fine.
I dunno, it's been a while since I watched so I might misremember some parts of it but the whole show kinda just felt like Jimmy constantly making problems for himself and sort of just moving in circles, having a nice thing going for him, sacking it early for bullshit reasons and coming out of it with 5 bucks and a couple more burnt bridges. I understand that's sort of the character but it just felt kinda frustrating to watch.

I guess. Just kinda felt like Waltuh relished in his bad tendencies and was going somewhere with all this while Jimmy's mostly a victim of his own urge to cheat and takes retarded gambits that don't pay off in any significant way. You'd think a person ruining a good thing they've got going for the 20th time would prompt a degree of post-scam clarity.

I felt the same about this game. I wish it would have committed to one style or the other. Instead we get two half games. I would have been equally happy with a full grace or leon game.

Honestly the game is good but the reaction to it was insane, people talk about this game like a decent open-world adventure has never existed before it even though Ubislop sandboxes were already considered pretty played out when this was new. Never seen a game get jerked off this hard.
Less a 6/10 treated like a 10/10 and more an 8/10 treated like an 11/10.

Objectively correct take. Most Nintendo gamers play nothing else, so their first experience with any genre is on a Nintendo system, and then they take to the internet to praise this "revolutionary new game". Look at modern Fire Emblem fans for example, 90% of them have played no SRPGs except for Fire Emblem, and only started playing FE with the 3DS releases. The dozens of other SRPG franchises from the PS1/PS2 era, many better than Fire Emblem, might as well not exist to them solely because they don't have that Nintendo Seal of Approval.

I got memed into that game. I'm not saying it's a bad game, but don't play a warrior build if you're going to play it. Mage is the only way to beat the game. It reminds me of Morrowind where it's a good game BUT, and there are some pretty big buts. Arx Fatalis is a good game BUT, you have to pick mage. Morrowind is a good game BUT, don't pick spears, alchemy, enchanting, mercantile, speechcraft, acrobatics, mysticism etc. It's also got a similar level of jankiness where I got stuck on geometry and items were glitching through the floor. I'd recommend Arx but with a warning, pick mage it's the only way to play.

I have a friend who is legit retarded when it comes to games that if they don't hold his hand. He has no interest in learning a system in a game unless he is 100% invested in it by the first 20 minutes, and even if he IS invested in a game by the first 20 minutes he'll still play it wrong, blame the game and call it dogshit.

He started playing New Vegas and was telling me it was dogshit, I asked him why, he kept on saying all his weapons were breaking and I said he could repair them. He went silent for around 5 seconds and then said "wait....you can repair weapons?" and this problem of dogshit weapons stops being a problem (gameplay of NV aside). Hours later he'll discover some new "problem" that after probing him about will all be a fault on HIS END from not paying attention or not interacting with the game systems.

Then when he finally finishes the game, he'll call it dogshit because the gameplay wasn't fully explained to him and the argument we'll eventually have is just him complaining over every little thing, me trying to explain that he's wrong because he didn't fucking pay attention to anything to game was showing him and then me calling him a retard once again for not getting it.

Some other games he didn't "get":
>Dead Space, didn't know you have to shoot limbs off and was shooting the bodies of enemies
>Baldur's Gate 3, didn't know you could change spells and had a party of *just* spellcasters including himself as he never found Lae'zel or Karlach
>Superhot, somehow didn't conceptualize that moving the player is how time moves forward
>SMT3, could not wrap his head around what enemies were weak to and died in the first hour, assumed you had to grind and was filtered by the Matador
>Alien Isolation, didn't understand that noise draws the Alien to you and complained you couldn't kill it even when he shot it a bunch

He did somehow completely understand the systems of Kenshi, Dwarf Fortress, Splunky and Daggerfall though.

This is me with evefy soulstrash, metroidvania and roguelike, but I rate them at like 2/10 if it's good for the genre, or 0.5/10 for the majority.
If they were other genres they maybe could get a 5 or 6, obviously if the gameplay improves with the change.

I hate how much I relate to this. he's nowhere near as retarded as your pal but has the entitlement that specific games should conform to his playstyle rather than the other way round.

>You'd think a person ruining a good thing they've got going for the 20th time would prompt a degree of post-scam clarity
Yeah that's probably true. I'd imagine about half of that comes from the show needing to continue and have more seasons with the writers providing just enough intrigue and aggravation at the characters from the viewers that they continue watching

This is me and Witcher 3. The game was pretty good, 7/10 at least but I just didn't get the hype. Combat was mid and the game used every opportunity to tell you just how horrible the Middle Ages apparently were and that 90% of the population is rapists and murderers but you must totally care for the world.
Some questlines were pretty good but many quests just felt too much the same. More than half the quests had some plot twist and moral dilemma.
RPG elements were overdone in some parts and lacking in others. Why the fuck do I get a level 32 quest at level 8 where everything oneshots me until level 27? Why is some random city guard level 30 and oneshots me yet the big bad from a few hours ago was level 15?
Still enjoyed it and put 100 hours in the base game alone but I just didn't get the hype over Witcher 3 being the best RPG of all time.

The game made horrible decisions like weapon durability and getting rid of dungeons. Elden Ring has shown that you don't need to make these decisions in an actual open world game.
Literally no argument for weapon durability.

>It is needed for the difficulty.
BOTW is both the easiest and hardest Zelda depending on the equipment you use.

>You would just use the same weapons.
And? It is a sandbox. So I should be able to. Yet every video of someone playing is either a Reddit physics montage or the inventory fully stacked with Lynel weapons.

>You would just use the strongest weapons once you find them.
I originally planned ro run with the weakest claymore until the end of the game but it broke after a few enemies. Other games can manage proper equipment scaling just fine. Additionally if some random nigger can just dance through the most hostile area without armor and a literal stick, it honestly doesn't matter what weapon we give him.

>The open world would break otherwise.
Maybe but that is a game design problem. You don't design an open world to be reliant on a system that constrains you so heavily in how you play because I love cycling a weapon menu mid combat.
