When did you realize carts were superior all along?
Late 90's
>all that wasted plasticnip engineering hirrarious
When games have load times and install times and you can't share games and there are no libraries or game rental stores or game shops or games.
>>746099273Doesn't have to be carts, but people should be pretty fucking convinced that having a definite physical edition is superior in this day and age.
They got some cool features, like own soundcards, save files and other extra to push the game to its own direction - with fast loading speed... but CDs just packs more.
>>746099502Is it when every game nowadays demands to connect to a server to validate the license? What good is the disc at that point? You people are barking at the wrong door. You should be fighting for open source instead.
>>746099502>Spend a few grand on glaps>Don't log in for 3 years>Turn on console>Log in>>Nigger you ain't got no gompthz.>Sheeeeeit>>For the players tm
>>746099502i have a whole hard drive full of physical games
>>746099343it's to make it easier to pull out>INB4 that's what she said
>>746099273>no end labels>games look like shit>games run like shit>missing content out the ass>control like assYeah I'll take CDs any day.
>>746100605>no end labelsThat's Nintendo being retarded, not a flaw of carts.>games look like shitBetter than PSX.>games run like shitAgain, not a flaw of carts>missing content out the assFMVs are bloat.>control like assNothing to do with carts.
>>746099273when i saw thishttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6f92hKbz5Eo
>>746100887Incorrect on all accounts.
>>746101178Some slight blur > warped texturesI'm sorry, but that's just a fact.
>>746101959>slight blur>textures are 1/4th res>look like blurry ass>run like blurry ass (20fps vs 60)all due to using the wrong game media delivery package.
>>746099342>he likes blurry dogshitThis guy shills for AI anti aliasing
>>746099502Carts can come with actual hardware, whereas what data storage medium your files are saved on is irrelevant.I will care about physical media when it comes with a GPU.>>746099728You should be fighting against the meme of software copyright, since it's the equivalent of giving copyright protection to AI slop. Compiler output is not human work, only the assets and source code are human work, software copyright was only written into existence to propagate licenses and allow companies to ignore the user freedoms that should be granted to the end user.
>>746102025>textures are 1/4th resBetter textures means nothing if they get warped like crazy.>look like blurry assExaggerated, and preferable to the alternative.>run like blurry ass (20fps vs 60)Again, not a flaw of the cartridges.
>>746102147>Compiler output is not human work, only the assets and source code are human workSo everything should be freeware. That's awesome, until the software demands to verify your subscription.FOSS is the only way. Everything else is a meme.
>>746102337Nor is anything you mentioned a flaw of CDs
>>746102337>Better textures means nothing if they get warped like crazy.Literally not happening.>Exaggerated, and preferable to the alternative. What kind of gamer hates pixelated graphics?>Again, not a flaw of the cartridges.cartridges couldn't do it.
>>746102725Then don't mention things that have nothing to do with carts.>>746102808>Literally not happening.Replay Tomb Raider.>What kind of gamer hates pixelated graphics? Are you an emulationfag or an indie garbage consoomer? Old devs were always trying to make their games as not pixelated as possible. N64s rudimentary AA wasn't great, but it was something.>cartridges couldn't do it.The problem was that N64 games were too ambitious for the hardware. CDs would only have made it worse by adding loading screens.
>>746102337>not a flaw of the cartridgesWell no shit, but autistic rom hackers solving the problem 20 years later doesn't mean it wasn't a problem on the system.
>>746103467See the post above yours. The problem wasn't the carts.
>>746103461>Replay Tomb Raider.Change of subject, shift goalpost, irrelevant non-factor.>Are you an emulationfag or an indie garbage consoomer? neither, failure to pinpoint boogeyman and thought terminating cliche.>Old devs were always trying to make their games as not pixelated as possibleincorrect, and we also know now that aggressive pushes toward texture filtering was done by 3d card manufacturers, much like raytracing is today. the artwork was often done pixel by pixel.>N64s rudimentary AA wasn't greatat 240p it basically made aliasing worse and blurred the entire image.>N64 games were too ambitious for the hardwareThe hardware was horrible, glad we agree carts were a mistake.>adding loading screens. They already do this nintendo just made it against their rules to put the text loading on the screen. They mostly go black for several seconds.
>>746103784>Change of subject, shift goalpost, irrelevant non-factor.It's an example of insane texture warping. You cherry picking an instance where it wasn't as bad (like you're doing the opposite against the N64 by using the Quake port) does not change that fact.>neitherSo you're just stupid. Got it.>failure to pinpoint boogeyman and thought terminating cliche. What's with this robotic analytical speech? Does it make you feel smarter?>the artwork was often done pixel by pixel. In a way that made them blend together on a CRT. Your lack of knowledge of this fact is why I suspected you only ran those games on an emulator.>at 240p it basically made aliasing worse and blurred the entire image. You really never played original hardware, did you?>The hardware was horrible, glad we agree carts were a mistake. Now you're just pretending to be retarded.>They already do thisAgain, cherry picking.
>>746101178Forsaken 64 was better alone because it had bots.
>>746099273when gaming on usbs were possible on pcs and ps2.

How delusional.>doesn't even have his own photospathetic non-player.
load times are based it gives you the time to relax your eyes and keeps your vision healthymy step brother was an n64 speedrunner before speedrunning was a real thing and he needed glasses by 22. i'[m more than twice that age and still score 20/15 vision get fucked nerds, you actually did rape your own faces
>>746099273Never retard, enjoy your data broken.
>>746099273>plug in cart>press power>shit just plays>careful insert disk into tray>close disk tray>LOADING>LOADING>LOADING>okay you can LOAD SOME MORE NOW>now you can play>LOADINGThe first time I witnessed the flaw of disks I instantly realized the detriment. Just load the entire game in RAM you cowards. Not enough ram? Put it in the cart.
>>746099342right looks better
>>746099273Funny thing people don't realize the PS1 and N64 had the same bandwidth. The only reason the PS1 had slightly longer load times was because the audio quality was leagues ahead anything that could be stored in an N64 format. The PS1 also had higher quality assets because of higher capacity, the N64 just had better (blurrier) filtering. Can anybody mention even a single thing that carts were ever superior to CD?>>746099342A texture? Are you implying that has anything to do with carts or CD's? The N64 just had a higher end Gpu than the PS1, and more ram too.
>>746102093Honesty the filtering a crt does actually makes it look fine
>>746099343Ostensibly it made room for extra hardware. But the N64 was so unpopular that very few ever bothered, as they had frequently done on NES and SNES.
>want to do something the console isn't capable of?>just modify the cartridge and you're good to go>loading times near enough don't existCarts were the shit. If they could develop modern carts that held hundreds of gigabytes of data, it would easily be the superior format. It would cost an absolute fortune compared to discs, but it would be.
>>746110847No.
>>746111184It does. You hardly notice. I've played that Quake port where you can disable the filtering, and on a CRT you hardly notice the difference, and if anything the filtering makes it look slightly better.
>>746111379Shut up. I am 41. The N64 has blurry, shitty image quality while the PS1 is more like pixel art in 3D. PS2 is also incredibly bad about image quality.
>>746110739Cartridges contain additional hardware that expand their consoles beyond what they’re normally capable of. It’s why Mario 3 is lightyears beyond 1, it’s why Star Fox has 3d graphics, and it’s why Pokemon Red/Blue are so large in scope.Disks can only be software.
>>746099273>school pal invites me over after school>he has a ps1 and tekken>those fucking loading timesI laughed in his face that he actually sat there in complete silence waiting for the game to actually be playable.
When I got a scratch on a disc and it wouldn't work.
When they had to roll out a patch for Xenoblade X to make the loading times faster by installing part of the game into the Wii U
>>746099342That has literally nothing to do with storage formats.
>>746113251N64 carts didn't have loading times when on PS1 you had 5-minute loading screens every 10 minutes
>>746111949Uh oh, melty
>>746099273>They still haven't gotten over the complete and utter dominance of the PlayStation.
>consoleniggers arguing which instance of outdated corposlave hardware model was less shitty than the otherlmao
