Cool feature in fps games or impossible to balance gameplay ruining gunslop clutter?
>>746099651For gunfags, it's an enormous draw. The issue is that most of it shouldn't have an effect on gameplay significant enough for normies to care about, and if it does,, there will always be an "optimal build", thus removing customization from a practical standpoint.Personally, I often put myself at an disadvantage to keep my gun from looking like a gay homo butt-toy.
>>746099651>Cool feature in fps gamesWhen it's abstract and simplified, just modifying the gun's stats, maybe giving the rounds more penetration in exchange for less ammo>gameplay ruining gunslop clutterWhen it's like OP's image, 40 different recoil strings with changes so minimal you only notice them after the 28th shot of a burst but they all have to be cleaned, polished, oiled, derusted, spitted and came on after every mission or they'll breakBasically, realism ruins everything, as always, but as long as you don't listen to realismfaggots it's a cool feature
>>746099651So long as you keep it realistic it shouldn't really affect balance. Thers no upgrade you can do to a stock weapon that will suddenly double or triple its damage. The closest thing that could do something like that is messing with the barrel length but thats not really a case of a long barrel being 2x damage so much as an unusually short barrel being -50% damage. Every cartridge has an ideal barrel length and reducing that length usually has a sharp impact on performance while increasing the length has rapidly diminishing returns that eventually swing negative. On that note things like base damage, range, and penetration should really be determined by the ammo you're using not the weapon. Always find it annoying in games where two weapons use the same ammo but one does 5 damage because its an early game weapon and the other does 40 because its late game. Or worse, full auto weapons that do diddly squat per shot compared to a single shot weapon using the same ammunition. The balance of full auto weapons should be that its increasingly more difficult to keep the weapon on target past the first shot and you are going to burn through ammo faster not that your bullets suddenly turn into soggy peas.
