Meanwhile Sephiroth is this hyped up god but he only ever killed civillians and knocked out Zack. That's it. That's where his feats end. Even Supernova is shaky since the whole summon/attack sequence thing throws doubt on how "real" it is. So honestly, I think they're both so sorry they just mutually job and kill each other.

Sephiroth is one of the weakest FF antagonists in terms of feats. He's only dangerous globally because he got his hands on dark materia. Compare him to the likes of Trance Kuja who can literally nuke planets or Neo-Exdeath who has void under his control

>>746101656There's losing and then there's "jobbing". Vergil is a classic jobber, a powerful character who is meant to constantly lose to make whoever beat him look badass. He lost to Mundus, he lost to Dante twice, and he even lost to Nero. Sephiroth isn't really a jobber, since he's the big bad, but he's certainly nothing special once you properly look at his feats.
Probably Vergil, but we never really get a good sense of what Sephiroth's capable of in the original game. There's a huge difference between what happens in the overworld vs. the "battle dimension." Like I'm pretty sure if Tifa could canonically deliver an inverted piledriver to Mecha-Godzilla, she wouldn't have such a miserable time climbing fifty flights of stairs. Similarly I don't know how seriously we're supposed to take shit like Supernova.

People are talking about this in terms of power levels, but I think it's more important to acknowledge that Jenova is basically a living virus. I think there's enough evidence to show that if Sephiroth infected Vergil with Jenova cells, Vergil wouldn't have the mental fortitude to resist being controlled by him.
