This game's kinda hard, don't you think? It even smells hard!

Unfortunately doesnt live up to moons greatness, but a neat enough experience when you arnt trying to 100% it. And seeing as how love de lics games where never meant to be 100%d blind (both moon and chulip tell you step for step how to do every puzzel in the guide/manual) and moon actively tells you not to waste time 100%ing it in the ending i give it a pass. As kind of a return to form its hard not to compare this to their past works. Theyre games were always more about the experience than the actual gameplay. I certainly wouldnt call lack of love a good game, but i think its a neat art peice that got me to think about it years after playing it for example. Im not sure if id say this was a good game in that same way. Its not as actively broken as lol and its not as annoyingly obtuse as chulip, but its combat asks a lot of patience from the player and trying to save every demon or whatever they were called is pure trial and error. Not perfect, but im glad it exists.

Is it really a copy if you copy the game that copied you first?

It's not really that fun as a game but as an artist's statement and companion piece to Moon I found it very emotional. It doesn't fully make sense until the endings.

It's very clearly the director grappling with the fact that he's getting old and doesn't have that many more games left to make in him. That life is short and you can only dedicate yourself to so many things before it's all over. That even something "fun" and creative like developing games is work that keeps you away from your family, and from experiencing everything else life has to offer.

The conversation system is unironically better than Undertale because you actually have to think and find clues instead of just trial and error every option

Finally, a game that deals with the horrors of becoming an older.

Moon made a space that you lived in, got to know the people, it felt like home.

This game deliberately has you only pass through areas once, your actions dont solve the problems of the people and you are whisked away to the next place without resolution.

It's not satisfying gameplay but its an interesting deliberate narrative choice

I dont need to play the games from this dev in order right

Stray Chlidren is a thematic successor to Moon but it's not literally a sequel. Everything else is standalone

I finally got around to playing Moon and then found out the localization of this game was coming out like a month afterwards so I was really looking forward to it

I got filtered hard in the woods. I went into this game knowing it was inspired by Undertale and got really frustrated that nothing seemed to work on any of the monsters. That wouldn't be so bad if the pacing of the battles weren't as agonizingly slow as they are. I made it to some dead end and didn't know what the fuck to do and didn't want to waste time trudging through random encounters all the way back to the beginning just to find nothing. Haven't played it since... guess I'm just a fucking retard!

You lose something if you dont play moon before this imo, but other than that no not really. And if moon doesnt look interesting to you why are you even checking out this game? In short, play moon.

They fucked up.
I couldn't play anymore after the first few areas because it just wasn't fun and didn't make much sense how the mechanics were supposed to work.
Might have been fucked in the translation.

This song is still amazing, especially sped up just a little bit.

and, I did beat moon when the ps1 TL came out, but after the switch TL came out.
The ps1 TL was clearly done by mentally ill trannies so that took away some of the fun. Still enjoyed it way more than trying to slog through stray children.

>think and find clues
give an actual real example that makes any fucking sense and in the order that you have to do it. I think maybe 1 or 2 of the first several even comes close to having actual clues.

Stray Children is an odd duck of a game from a developer known for making odd ducks. I fully understand why people bounce off of or find it frustrating (hell, I definitely found it plenty frustrating at times), but I think there's a really interesting product which reflects on both the ways in which adult life grinds people down and leads them to leading unfulfilling or immoral lives, and the ways in which parents transfer their faults down to younger generations and so lead to the same problems being perpetuated. The ending of the game easily rivals the best moments of moon, too, and personally hit me harder, emotionally.

Wish the moon TL was out when I was really into wholesomecore. Can't stand it these days unfortunately

Somehow managed to grab the wrong YT video. RIP Tim Curry.

It's not wholesome though. Moon has an ultimately hopeful message but it doesn't shy away from darkness, it's like a classic Grimm's fairy tale. And Stray Children is a lot darker.
