>>746285186Classic? No. It is treated much the same as, say, Mario. In that all that matters is that it's a megaman game. Story is completely secondary and there is no continuity. Time does not flow in this series, previous events are barely acknowledged if at all and there is no future. Only an excuse to fight 8 bosses and about 4 castle levels. The desire to have a comprehensive, continuous story with a satisfying conclusion is, I feel, a very western notion and old japs like Miyamoto absolutely despise it.
I never entirely understood the attachment to Command Mission. It's a basic bitch-ass JRPG with a basic bitch-ass cast. The PS2 had a fuckton of JRPGs, most mediocre. I'd rank Command Mission as somewhere in the middle D-tier. I would probably rate Command Mission unfavorably to pretty much all of these games. I don't even like a good chunk of the games on this list, but they're still all better than Command Mission.

I think the writing is bad, the dungeons are boring, the bosses aren't super memorable, the characters are all one-dimensional and the graphics are kind of ugly for a PS2 title. It brings almost nothing interesting to the table. I could kind of understand if someone who EXCLUSIVELY played literally nothing but Mega Man games loved it, but I'm not one of those people. I do not live in a vacuum where the only games you can compare Mega Man to are other Mega Man games. I can't just go "Well it's okay by the standards of the series" and hold it in particularly high regard. It's a D-tier game that isn't worth going back to.
