Xenoblade 2 is like torture. I think every single mechanic in the game is designed to be a painful slog and waste your time.
And after going through it on ng+ I think I understand why.

Just the general gameplay and job systems. The story is obviously nothing to write home about, but they did a really good job with making the exploration fun and the dopamine of unlocking more job skills was there. I never felt bored for a moment throughout my playthrough. Even if you think BD1 is better, it still does the jobs well enough to be worth playing in my opinion.
If I had to give 1 criticism it would be that the dungeons are a bit short, but that's the same criticism I have for the octopath traveler series.

While I'm here can any saga enjoyers tell me what's so enticing about the series? I tried romancing saga minstril's song, but I just cant get into it. The fact your health is refilled after every battle takes away any sense of brinskmanship in dungeons which is what I really enjoy in jrpgs (getting a bit deeper into the dungeon as you get stronger, and knowing when to pull out to refill on resources). I also don't like the mob scaling - it feels loke the game punishes you for playing it. I'm not even a grinding kind of guy, but I usually like to explore the map and take any fights I can along the way, and there's always a voice in the back of my head saying not to do it because of scaling.

What makes the series enticing depends on your tastes, people usually like it because it's the only truly experimental series out there that also has huge cast of weird characters and narrative focused on old school tabletop worldbuilding.
Your HP isn't the main resource, that's LPs, get a character's LP down to 0 and they die, although there's ways to bring most of them back in MS.
Not sure what "brinkmanship" even means here since MS has a lot more stuff to manage than other JRPGs, like LPs, equipment durability and BR/ER, HP refills with every fight because enemies don't coddle you and the combat's actually lethal, and since you can go anywhere you like it's easy to end up in dangerous places.

Getting mixed messages here, if you don't want to risk fighting things because the ER/BR scares you for some reason then make sure one character specializes in a class with access to stealth and learn which enemies use sight or noises to detect you, you're not gonna get perfect progression as a total newbie and there's no such thing as a 100% run like FF.
BR does nothing but help you grow and advancing through ER is needed for the world's timeline to advance too so you can get access to new questlines and content, the key to optimize progress is to know when and how you should fight and managing economy and safe dungeon crawling for access to better equipment.
