>millions of people think that this dogshit series of memorizing boss attacks for hours is some gaming revolution and the best thing everExplain
boo hoo, niggerget some real problems
pressing circle when the boss attacks is high skill actuallyparry le bad doe even doe it's the same thing
Nobody except PvP backstab spamming autists played Dark Souls for the combat.
>>746366256>memorizing boss attacks for hoursyou have to be a retard if you need hours for a boss
>>746366319Fuck dark souls >>746366320Memorizing shit doesn't take any skill
>>746366349What do they play it for? They all love talking about the bosses and how hard it is
>>746366256>memorizing boss attacksgood players will dodge things the first time they see them because of good reflexes and they will call out the trial and error bosses (most bosses are not trial and error)
>>746366256can't you just git gud?
>>746366369Most people take hours to beat elden ring bosses due to the large health bars requiring you to adequately memorize the boss well enough that you can fight it for 15 minutes straight
>>746366256>memorizing boss attacksThat's what a video game is. As soon as games stopped being memorizing level layouts and attack patterns they became shit.
marketing campaign and forced memes next stupid thread
>>746366457>giant flat square arenaSo boring
>>746366474You won't be getting good at video games by playing some shit memorization based game. People play dark souls because it's the only way they can pretend to be good at games while they would get stomped in any competitive multiplayer or difficult singleplayer game
>millions of people think that this dogshit genre of clicking on enemies heads and pressing the reload button every couple of clicks is the best thing ever
>>746366390>skill issue shitter crying instead of getting gudafter all these years you still love to see it
>>746366706We get it, you got filtered by the easiest From Software game, you can stop belly aching publicly now.
>>746367143It was a bad game. I'm sorry if you're such a worthless loser that your ego rests on being "the guy who plays the hard game" even though it's a casual shit game that takes no skill
>>746366678while there is a point there its a little disingenuous because mohgs arena is more than that
>>746367038>git gudThis is the game you play thinking that it gives you some kind of bragging rights. Conveniently it's also a singleplayer game for shitters with hundreds of ways to exploit and remove any challenge
>>746366706the endgame of fromsoft games is to kill bosses in cool ways. Thats the middle ground you have top accept when a game company needs to make money for their publisher, if they make it a requirement for you to get complex to beat the game then it wont make any money because 99% of video game players are fantastically shit at games like you wouldnt believe and msot people dont have the patience to really "git gud" at a game at all, so fromsoft lets you mash R1 and press dodge to win, but they also let good players get complicated with it if they want.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qmg2aSCP3yI
>>746366706>he thinks difficult single player games don't have an aspect of pattern recognition and memorization lollmaoeven many multiplayer games do, fighting games are a good example of something where you need to observe and understand how the person you're playing acts, so you can react to what they do, on top of memorizing what their character is capable of. the souls games aren't the hardest games ever made but compared to the other AAA fare we see shit might as well be I wanna be the guy compared to them
>>746368654Every game has some type of "memorization" or rather learning e.g. learning what all the cards in Magic the Gathering do. But dark souls (especially elden ring) is one of the only game series where the whole difficulty lies in memorizing boss attacks for hours to proceed. And really once you've learned how any of the basic mechanics in DS1 work it's impossible to be challenged by it. The difficulty is completely front loaded so blind players who don't know what poise or iframes are think it's hard
>>746366256>memorizing boss attacks for hours>posts DS1 cover artretard
Level design, world design, atmosphere are some of the best. Also, it has a shit ton of berserk references
>>746369757>is one of the only game series where the whole difficulty lies in memorizing boss attacks for hours to proceed.you must be extremely young, play no videogames and the ones you do play you have to be really bad at because basically everything you said here is wrong.
>>746369757>so blind players who don't know what poise or iframes are think it's hardI genuinely wish the games has neither of these excepting possibly having builds with actually insane requirements and much bigger disadvantages than they do in the actual games so that they actually played like how I imagine they did when I first started playing them and were genuinely hard to master in the ways I assumed they would be.
>>746370138All wrong and I avoid bad memorization based games like dark souls and anything calling itself soulslike
>>746370407should I break down exactly why you're wrong?
it's popular because you can go grind to skip the gameplay part and you can still brag about beating le hardest game ever
>>746370161It would require a severe redesign of the combat since iframes are the main defensive move >>746370459You can explain your position
>>746370634you don't even need to grind to poise through everything in DS1. DS1 is insanely accessible nowadays when everyone knows about roll iframes and there are still niggers who manage to get filtered by it.
>>746370161right so the thing about that is that they did in fact make not only one game, but multiple games about exploring dangerous landings fighting dangerous monsters and bosses where there was no poise and iframe dodges. It was called King's Field, and the games are generally very niche, with most people playing them now thinking they're VERY slow. Positioning is fine and all and I do think the games could reduce enemy tracking to reward positioning more, but people generally do not like the king's field shimmy.
>>746370634You don't need to grind you can just look up how to get OP early in dark souls videos on youtube that have millions of views and use summons
>>746366678thinking about how at the end of Sen's Fortress you fight the giant Iron Golem on this teeny tiny platform way up high with no guard rails. Brilliant way to cap off the climb, I don't know if Elden Ring has anything even remotely similar
Souls games were never about difficulty or memorization. Early MH games, snes games, even some action games are all harder than pretty much every souls game in every way. Ultimately, you get to decide how to beat a boss and how long it’ll take to beat him. This all depends on your build and skill. However, skill is not dependent on memorization of the enemy/boss’ attacks or positioning. It’s dependent on YOUR positioning, where you roll, and what openings you attack during. It is, however, a somewhat punishing game. Later games in the series streamlined combat more by making it more about rolling and openings. But, at the very least, DaS1 is not a game about memorization in terms of difficulty
>>746370732Ok. So basically every NES game requires pattern memorization to beat. enemy placements, boss patterns. these games were made to be hard to elongate play time, so while a run of Castlevania 1 could take at most an hour or two, it usually took longer than that for casual players because they had to go through the process of memorizing the game. This is what I mean by too young or that you play no games, you think dark souls is the ONLY FRANCHISE that has done the hallmark of an entire generation of gaming. Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, Ghosts and Goblins, Contra, Shinobi and so on. basically any and all retro action games function on this principle. As for the being really bad at them, very few dark souls bosses take hours to learn their patterns, usually the problem is executing on the knowledge because of the more reactive defensive mechanics. Castlevania 1 is more predictive, you know the boss will do X, so you position to Y so avoid the attack. Souls gets progressively more and more>roll at these timingswhich is generally harder to execute on, especially if you have poor timing and reflexes. if you cannot learn to dodge dark souls bosses do NOT play a fighting game they will obliterate you on even the most basic reaction check
>>746366256It was revolutionary. It doesn't become less revolutionary now that 500 games have copied the formula
Dark Souls is great. The actual retarded game design is in the later games like Elden Ring which are made to kill people who are too good at Dark Souls so the bosses all herky jerk and fake you out and flinch and delay and shit which makes them IMPOSSIBLE to beat without memorising the animations.
>>746366256Dark Souls never was about memorizing attacksElden Shit is about memorizing attacks because the bosses are made to kill people that play these games, so you don't know how many attacks a combo has, how much delay the hits have, that the boss is going to do a random fuck you oneshot if you do XDark Souls and Demon Souls you just react to attacks
>>746366256Every boss except for Manus has like 2 attacks, and they spend a lot of time not doing anything. You shouldn't really have to spend much brain power memorizing anything.
>>746371273>This is what I mean by too young or that you play no games, you think dark souls is the ONLY FRANCHISE that has done the hallmark of an entire generation of gaming.I don't believe I ever said they're the only trial and error memorization games, but they're the most prominent modern example which the fanbase thinks is some revolution and pinnacle of game design. And yes I'm too young to have played a console that came out 41 years ago. Video games weren't even good until 1993 when doom was released
>>746371581Idk why they bother when you can just use summons or ashes of war that nuke all the bosses
>>746372072>I don't believe I ever said they're the only trial and error memorization gamesyou're right you said one of, but again that simple isn't true there are decades of videogames that operate on this principle. >but they're the most prominent modern example which the fanbase thinks is some revolution and pinnacle of game designthis the more interesting bit to me because in many ways it's actually a regression, design wise. it shunned modern sensibilities for something more classic, and people responded quite favorably to it. I think people who have played these old games like me point to souls as examples of how classic game design can be wrapped in a modern shell and do very well in a AAA scene that is always going deeper into the casualization depths.>And yes I'm too young to have played a console that came out 41 years agonot an excuse I'm 32 and I've played basically all the games I've listed to some degree (got filtered by NES Ninja Gaiden though that shit is tough)
It came out at the perfect time. The start of mass casualization and weirdo Internet culture becoming mainstream so Billy with his newfangled smartphone can look so underground and kewl for liking the weird Japanese knight game instead of Skyrimjob cuz he saw it on the evil hackers known as 4chan
>>746366256I played it for the first time a few months agoIt's a fun exploration game basically, some "troll" bullshit but nothing that egregiousDunno if the sequels are worse
>>746373165They are, maybe ds2 is better since it's more about exploration and survival than memorization like the other games
>>746366256Only Bloodborne, Sekiro, Armored Core VI and The Duskbloods are truly good. Demon's Souls (2009) has charm and gave birth to modern FromSoftware. The rest are all garbage. Elden DOGSHIT Ring is obviously DOGSHIT.
Memorize what? The bosses don't have a set pattens then just do whatever move the feel like it depending on your range/position.The player has to read the usually exagerated windup animations and react acordingly.
>>746366534You never played the game
>>746372535>a AAA scene that is always going deeper into the casualization depths. The souls series are very casual games with completely front loaded difficulty to give them the illusion of being hard. If you played DS1 more than once or twice and you know how iframes, 2 handing, poise, and estus upgrades work, and where to get the grass crest shield and FAP ring, how can you ever be challenged by the game? Fortnite the most popular game ever is less casual than this
>>746373728>Memorize what?>The player has to read the usually exagerated windup animations and react acordingly.you memorize the exaggerated windups anon
>>746373728>Memorize what? >shows a nigga who memorized all the predictable attack timings and when to punish
>>746373916Well Fortnite is only as casual as the people you're playing against. Can't really compare multiplayer to singleplayer.
>>746373935>>746374039Skill issue.
Fromsoft bosses are fun because it's not just memorizing patterns, it's looking for openings within the patterns. Which attacks can't be punished and which ones can, and how to get the boss to use the attacks that can be punished more and the ones that can't less.
>>746373916>wow how can you ever be challenged by a game once you know how to play and beat ituhhhhh it's on the execution like I said previously? Castlevania 1 is also easy once you know how to play the game, but until then it's rather hard.
>>746366256You never mastered anything in your life. You're a pleb.
>>746374182huh? learning the tells and reacting to them is a part of the skill anon
>>746373459>Demon's Souls (2009) has charm and gave birth to modern FromSoftwareThey should have kept making games focused on surviving through levels and interesting online mechanics but instead we got 5 games of roll slop
>>746366678Now add every Elden Ring boss that has clutter all over the arena
>>746373459The more I play these games, the more I realize you are correct.
>>746373935You can read them on a blind run and reasonably dodge them, at least till the mid to endgame where enemies get a bit more crazy.
>>746374182The guy in this video clearly isn't playing for the first time and has memorized all of that
>>746374479oh for sure but you can only blindly dodge an attack once. even if you one shot the boss you should still be committing the attacks to memory.
>>746366256Doesnt apply to demons souls or dark souls 1, both are comfy medieval fantasy exploration looter kino with ok boss fights
>>746374183Bosses have far more openings than most people realize since most play very passively. And now in ER with the posture break mechanic, aggresive play is rewarded as you make your own extra openings, crititcal hits and charged R2s on wakeup.
>>746374328Hilarious post considering DeS is the #1 souls games when it comes to rewarding rollspam and R1 mashing specifically because 95% of enemies don't have poise, armor is worthless and there's only fastroll and fatroll.
>>746375024You've been making these posts for years. Do you ever go outside or just go on /v/ every day for the last 5 years looking for opportunities to talk about this?
>>746366706Doom eternal truly outted the shitters on this board lmfao
>>746375321Great game
>>746375176But is he wrong?
>>746373728I don't get the memorization argument /v/ pulls out of their ass. That's all learning any skill is.I feel like /v/ being raised on shonen-slop believed challenge and overcoming it is based on some sort of innate high IQ "Deduction in the moment" thing and that it's the programmers fault that they don't produce game play where a player can in-the-moment deduce the right course of action. What faggots forget is they already trialed and errored gaming from childhood forward. The games that are effortlessly easy that you think aren't T&E are just so easy their combat resembles games you've already played.Do you know how many 2d platformers have bosses that jump up and ground pound a shockwave in both directions? It's so fucking common that people can always expect it.That's not the game-play being "reasonable", that's you fucking knowing a cliche attack. The reason souls pisses you fags off is it doesn't have cliche attacks forcing you to go back to learning the fights which you mistake as poor game design. Sure there is an ideal way of doing things, such as fight tutoring, where a bosses entire attack set is distributed among lesser enemies to tutor the player into familiarity with all the mechanics before boss combines them like some sort of exam, but it's still T&E.You all let Shonen asspulls trick you. You all let the "lol I'm new to this" 10k hour insane KD ratio Brazilian psyche you out. Soldiers fucking trained with wooden weapons 3 times a day to learn all the proper responses to various attacks and yet /v/ would be sitting there calling combat itself trial and error and that a true warrior goes in arms back like Naruto using his pure "rational" to best the opponent.
>>746375176Do you ever do anything other than mald about "rollslop" 24/7/365?
>>746375024What's that have to do with exploring and online mechanics and death mechanics which is what the post you're replying to is talking about?
>>746366256You spend hours memorizing boss attacks?Sounds like you have a bit of a skill issue
>>746375634It's more about the focus of trial and error to memorize how to fight bosses. So I don't care if you memorize when to parry, guard counter, or roll, it's all memoryslop.
>The boss... has attack patterns I have to learn and react to?>I'm going insane! Save me, Nintendo!
>>746375647And ER doesn't have exploration or hard dungeons?Fucking midgame side catacombs are bigger than most DeS levels and are far more deadly in terms of traps and enemies. And unlike DeS you can't rely on 99 grass that heals half your HP per use.
>>746375901>And ER doesn't have exploration or hard dungeons? No, because they've added checkpoints everywhere and made it trivial to run past everything due to wide open spaces
>>746375763You can parry on reaction 90% of the time, you just gotta know the 2 hand rule for bosses, 2 handed attacks generally aren't parriable. Same for jumping attacks. That's how good players can clear bosses on a blind first try and shitters needs 3 hours of memorization attempts.
>>746376112The only people I see first trying any of these bosses are niggas like asmongold using that shield turtle cheese build
>>746376020Only the world has frequent checkpoints, the dungeons have the same bonfire->shortcut->boss structure as the previous games. And enemies are actually dangerous.
>>746366256The original souls games weren't about the bosses, though.
>>746375627Normal people do not play games to "learn skills". Normal games teach you how to engage with them, and then put you in a series challenge where those fundamentals are tested organically.Neets and autists believe that games should be like playing the piano, where you must recite each new song individually and get it just right before moving on to the next oneIt's a cultural difference
>>746376284That's nice but I'm not going to play the game just for the bland side dungeons with copy and pasted assets
>>746376414just git gud lmao
What's the point of these fake outrage threads, no one is seriously arguing about a game from 2011
>>746374585If you can't do that first try it is skill issue, stop coping shitter.
>>746376284>Only the world has frequent checkpointsENTER: Elden DOGSHIT Ring
>>746376878You didn't do any of this shit first try lying dumbass
>>746377078I never knew that last site of grace was there
>>746377127skill issue.
>>746377628show your shmup 1CCs
>>746377628You are lying just like every subhuman who pretends to be good at these games and beat everything first try. Like wow, how convenient that the skill you're trying to portray to us is in a singleplayer game and you have no proof of the accomplishment you're lying about
>>746366256But you don't have to memorise shit. Dark Souls bosses are so slow you can react to their attacks. You're probably the same kind of faggot who thinks you have to memorise enemy placement in boomershooters.
>>746378146>But you don't have to memorise shit. Dark Souls bosses are so slow you can react to their attacks. You're right, dark souls 1 is the worst example since you can just equip heavy armor and 2h your weapon to remove any challenge from the game>You're probably the same kind of faggot who thinks you have to memorise enemy placement in boomershooters. So called boomer shooters tend to have skill based combat so you don't need to memorize anything unlike fromsoftware games
>>746377712>morkkek>>746377946Why are you seething? I am just telling you the truth. You can literally see the animation launch and then press the parry. It isn't that hard. Learn to eat properly and sleep enough so your brain can function properly. Perhaps you are suffering from Vitamin D3 deficiency?
>>746375321>xe thinks Doom Eternal is difficult Telling
>>746377078If there aren't any enemies between the checkpoints how does it affect the difficulty? The first grace is there because Mergit is super hard for early players, the second is the grace created to mark Mergit's death and the third is the start of the actual main dungeon, it only exists so you don't have to run 100 meters of empty stairs through Mergit's arena where every time you die.
>>746376414You don't mean normal, you mean casual. It's ok, you don't have to be the target audience of any games and there's nothing wrong with playing AAA casual movie games.
It's just updated OoT for 2010s sensibilities.It's overrated.It's also a top 100 video game
>>746378491>Why are you seething? The undeserved smugness. No one is beating these bosses on the first try including yourself and the other people who like this garbage. So your real problem is not that I'm good or bad at these games, but that I think they're shit, which you think gives you an opportunity to feel smug about your nonexistent skill as if liking fromsoftware trash is in itself something to be proud of because you are a loser who isn't good at any other game or anything else in life
>>746367760anon, people don't say "git gud" because being good is a bragging right, they say it because you fags come in crying that tying your shoelaces is too hard and that the devs should make it easier.
>>746378863I didn't ask about your inferiority complex, seek a therapist.
>>746378413Nigga if you didn't beat most DaS1 bosses on your first or second try and had to memorise their attacks I am worried about you being behind the wheel of a car.DaS1 bosses are not fast paced like ER, they don't hold their attacks and have little variation.
>>746378930The webm in the post you're replying to proves that you don't need to get good at anything to play these games. Which begs the question, why do worthless losers think that playing these games is some sort of bragging right when they're extremely casual games that sold 20 million copies and you can play like that?
>>746379107What are dark souls tards talking about when they say the game is hard?
