Devil Survivor is the best combat system Atlus has ever done. It's the proper way to meaningfully evolve turn based combat thats not just some gimmick, the use of a grid map that's the way it is in these games but not as big as an actual TRPG like FE or Tactics Ogre adds the layer of positioning and spacing to the typical turn based combat fight and the maps and mechanics in these games do quite a lot to play with positioning to make it a meaningful aspect of the combat. It's sad this combat style has been completely abandoned.
