You know, you just can't experience this game the same way anymore, its one of those rare games really that it was a product of its time and needed to be played back then.

Greatest FPS game on the market today, criminally underappreciated.

Can't recommend to anyone, still i've put over 1000h to it. Its just fundamentally shitty game, but the jank and attention to detail leverages it.

It's probably World of Warcraft but I would never sell you on that. I don't play anymore, half of my time was clocked in high school when it was new and we had a guild of local kids. After everyone left after wrath it was really just another 10 years of me getting nostalgia baited by a game that had a completely dead social element and a lot of sunk cost fallacy.

After WoW it was probably Monster Hunter Freedom Unite or 3 Ultimate. Really any Monster Hunter before World was my jam, I don't have a pitch because anyone who would like Monster Hunter probably already played it.

The same thing that was amazing about the beginning of Team Fortress 2 and Overwatch
WoW made the MMO a household genre by making it easy but also more polished and accessible
This creates an organic community of passionate people immediately
>>
>>746448359
We grew up before social media became ubiquitous, when texting had finite messages per month, and when the people you primarily interacted with were local to you. WoW gave you a chat room with people around the world like AIM or IRC, but it also gave you and everyone else an avatar and a justification to interact. It's basically impossible to explain to someone who grew up in a post Internet world how novel that was. It's not novel anymore, casual players left for other online spaces that fit them better, and the only people left are largely unsociable and optimizing the fun out of the game.

That and Warcraft 3 was fucking awesome when it came out, a lot of us were excited to live in the world that the Warcraft games set up.
>>
>>746448359
what those other anons said. When we were kids this shit was completely new. The idea of having a persistent character I could level up, make stronger, see new content, and play the game with my friends was fucking mind blowing. Then add 20 years of nostalgia onto that and it’s literally the only video game my friends play. It’s nice to log on every now and again, shoot the shit on discord and play together.
>>
>>746448359

X4: Foundations.
First person space combat with a galaxy wide economy you can manipulate. Start as some scrub in a single ship and work your way up to a mighty galaxy spanning empire with countless fleets of war and trade ships.
Its been out for a while and theres a few massive overhaul mods for it, most notably the star wars mod where you can fly virtually every ship in the star wars universe.
You can get up from the controls and wander diffrent decks or stand on the bridge and command your empire as your employees/slaves/minions do your bidding.

Build massive stations and produce your own goods or make undefeatable space fortresses. Combine it all together or have specialized stations dedicated to crafting one single trade good.

The galaxy is yourse. Will you seize it?

>Monster Hunter Rise: about 300 hours
It's probably the best new world game out of the three we have now. (Still would put 4U and GU higher overall though)

Great new Monsters and Armor
Interesting story and intro scenes that make everything look pretty cool
Wirebugs are fun to use.
And probably has the most variety when it comes to skills into the new world (not saying much when most thing are still just 'get big damage with a small slap on the wrist')

Overall a pretty good game, especially for someone new looking to get into both old and new world Monster Hunter

TF2 but I can't sell you on it. I'd say it's not even worth picking up and trying out other than it to be your silly fuck around game and maybe make some mods in. Not even because you couldn't learn how to play but because it doesn't matter if you're good or not.

Every game, community server or casual, is stomp or be stomped
Every third game will have an UWU furfag tranny that won't STFU about their kinks or a sharty Chud that won't STFU aout the most basic bitch /pol/ memes
Spinbots are gone but closet cheaters are still around. It'll take a few hundred hours but eventually you'll realize what can and cannot be done
Lots of community content but MAYBE 10% of it ever is used. Old school servers with loads of custom content from maps, modes, models, saysounds, etc are long gone
If you are a big enough fag to want to try comp you'll be SOL because that shit has been dead for years

Not my most played I barely scrapped the surface but I can see myself playing mudrunner and snowrunner for thousand of hours.
A few months ago if you asked me what game to pick when isolated on a deserted island I wouldn't even think about those. Now I'm sure I'd have mudrunner with mods or snowrunner in my list.
Whenever I can I ask anons to at least try mudrunner ( it's about two or three GB ).
>>
>>746445385
To be honest, my most played games are MMOs, and mostly because I used them as hangout spots.

My most played game where I actually PLAYED it is New Vegas. Ironically, for very autistic reasons. My most time-consuming playthroughs involved me basically just going to various high tier resettable locations to farm materials and funds for making my ultimate survivor bunker. It was supposed to have at least 100 of every top tier consumable, and my main bottlenecks were deathclaw omelettes (finding crunchy mutfruits is torture, but you can rarely get them from food vendors on reset), wasteland salads (pinion nuts are a similarly rare delicacy), Turbo (Jet turns out to be really fucking hard to come by), and some others that I don't remember anymore.

I ended up deleting that multihundred hour playthrough because my build was imperfect and I was really mad about it. As of right now I am badly burned out and don't want to restart that playthrough because I need to pre-emptively math out my level ups and end up with perfect 100s in all skills without wasting any perks or skill books. I'm also not sure if I want to take the Comprehension perk, because on one hand it's a meta perk due to Voracious Reader, but on the other hand I hate using consumables so I don't want to take Voracious Reader despite it being meta. And this kind of uncertainty keeps me from properly doing my playthrough.

Ever heard of that unknown indie game called death stranding?
It's the concept of moving stuff around through difficult places but good, unlike slop stranding. Because kohimbo was too busy fellating jewllywood celebs and scanning feet to make a good game.
With lot of realism and depth, lot of mud ( in which you can sometimes sink to your waist ) and lot of cool eastern/russian trucks. There.

Darktide.
There is no other game with a million little stats and hidden mechanics that actually only matter maybe 10% and the rest is positioning, map knowledge and reaction speed and using basic moves like blocking, pushing, dodging, sliding and sprinting. I play it because its funny how ragdolls are sent flying with heavy swings or when you throw a rock at a charging mutant.

Very good level design and art direction made world believable. These were not a video game levels, but a places. A world to explore. There are some videos which capture a bit of the essence of what this game used to be. Later it became too bland and formulaic, but vanilla WoW was a place you could live in.

Genuine question to anyone who has over 1,000 hours in a single game: At a certain point, does it become a part of your lifestyle? 23 years of one-off mechanics with bespoke interactions and code that not even the devs remember the details of. Warframe does feel like a chore sometimes, but there is always new stuff to grind for. I have over 3000 or 4000 hours in it, but I can’t remember which it is. I’ve been playing since 2019, I think. Also, I like girls with penises.

>>746445385
Nuclear Throne, very good game feel and sound design, it’s very arcadey in the sense you don’t need some crazy build or meta unlockables to get to the final stage, and the game just repeats constantly until you die, so the fun is trying to get as high a score as you can
When you get to the final stage the game resets on a different loop with more enemies
Each character feels fun to play too, and there’s 2 different unlockable skins for each so some stuff you can aim towards outside of just getting high scores

I've played Empyrion for over 1k hours. I use it as a creative outlet. I build spaceships I never use, almost using the game like a 3d modeling software, where my creations can instantly come to life. The huge amount of block shapes, and the fact that you can apply different textures and colors to each individual facet of each block makes it more creatively satisfying to play than similar games, like spengies. The rest of the game is just ok, but the combination of the INSANE scale of the game with the incredibly slick building and painting/texturing system has kept me coming back for over a decade. (I play with the reforged eden 2 mod, 100% an upgrade over base empy)

I like roadcraft instead because I'm a fan of terraforming for a meaningful purpose, and most times in snowrunner all I'm thinking is "this road is fucking aids and I wish I could just do deliveries here to have the place restored"
The fulfillment in roadcraft to have something actually built and persistent is great, but the process can be big time aids sometimes, when sand flattening keeps leaving creases or when you're trying to smoothen the tarmac on a ramp and it refuses to even out for some godforsaken reason
In that sense, I also loved the terraforming in wurm and the sense of leaving my small footprint in the world, but the game is actively anti QoL because the jank is supposed to be the "soul" of this oldass game and I'm glad I'm done with my own project. Sometimes I long to go back and make another road or a bridge, or improve the lands around my base, but then I remember how ass the game actually is

>>
>>746470845
You do have some delivery quests, but the game is mainly about retoring the terrain yourself by pouring industrious amounts of sand with a shitty dump truck for ages until the game dignifies itself into giving you and ok one (unless you buy DLC of course) there's also a thing about replacing broken pipes and other broken gizmos with new ones with the cranes, and collecting the leftover garbage (with a crane as well) like barrels and such to clean up the place. This time around though, you cant chain winch vehicles, and in fact only scout/rescue vehicles get to winch at all, outside cranes that can outright lift vehicles too, given that they're strong enough to lift that current vehicle
It's pretty fun, but the process is intentionally frustrating so you pay for DLC vehicles with better capabilities

I probably wasted the most hours on League of Legends. I wouldn't recommend it.
On the other hand I did spend the most hours on TF2 if Steam is anything to go by, and I don't think there's anything as fun as it in the long run on the market.
>9 classes with solidly distinct playstyles
>loads of loadout options to customize each class with
>tons and tons of maps and gamemodes
>big community scene that adds even more maps and new server mods, at least two gamemodes in TF2 were community gamemodes (Versus Saxton Hale and Zombie Fortress)
>you can leave the match any time without a problem
>big servers with a lot of players by default, community servers can get to 50v50 and beyond
You would expect more games that try to do the things that TF2 did but they didn't copy shit. I could say the only thing they took from it was the lootbox model (minus the keys) but frankly they copied Valve's other games for that.
It's a casual multiplayer game where you can have fun with other players and have a decent amount of freedom in what you want to do and how you want to contribute. To how many modern versus games does THAT apply?

>There's survival mode, and creative mode like minecraft
>Survival involves different start scenarios, ranging from crash landing on paradisaical planets, to starting with nothing on a planet that would cook you alive and no breathable atmosphere.
>There are POI's full of nightmare meat monsters, hostile aliens with guns and robots, or trade stations with a barter system.
>Voxel terrain deformation, with destructible everything, like red faction.

There was like Everquest and Ultima Online before WoW, I remember my uncle played Ultima, but WoW was the first time that an MMO was mainstream. I played PSO prior to WoW, so the concept wasn't completely new to me, but WoW was "basically" the first time you ever played an online game with other players, and it wasn't just like an shooter, it was also an RPG where you had character progression and could do dungeons with friends. Or you could even make new friends, because it was all basically a new concept to everyone, and because fast travel and dungeon queues weren't a thing yet, and traveling anywhere took 10+ minutes of real world time, and there weren't "layers" like there are now, so you'd see the same people over and over again and you'd befriend them and learn who was good and who was bad, or you'd even see people who used to be trash and then a couple weeks or months later, they're pretty decent now, and you remember when they were noobs. Then there's also the fact that this was back in the early internet, so people hadn't yet optimized the fun out of video games, so you could just play the game and have fun and not worry about being "optimal" because barely anyone was worried about being optimal. Shit, just the simple act of having all of your abilities keybound made you automatically better than like 50% or more of all players, because a lot of people were still keyboard turners, that's how noob everyone was. And your internet sucked, and your computer sucked, and so did everyone else's, and all the healers in your guild were just the guild officer's irl girlfriends, and stuff like that. Real girls played the game, like half my guild raid was real girls. And then there were realm forums, and you could talk shit to other people and then duel them to settle it and stuff like that.

It was just a much simpler and much happier time. You had to be there. "Classic" WoW can never be actual 2004 vanilla WoW.

It's just an insane grind fest that has become horrifically bloated, woefully unbalanced, and pay to grind a little less
Early game starts out fun enough but before you know it you'll end up being farmed by overpowered vehicles, oftentimes that were limited edition and now only available for hundred of dollars
And then you'll learn that there are whole tech lines of completely worthless vehicles which you'll have to spend your time grinding out anyway due to the game requiring X amount of vehicles in a specific tier purchased before moving into the next tier
And then on top of that you'll have any remaining fun ruined by Chinese cheaters who are simultaneously unable to score a single kill as your teammates and kill your entire team single handedly as enemies, despite the fact that they have their own Chinese servers to ruin and shouldn't even be on the one you're playing

Games have been exploiting addiction inducing techniques for decades now. Daily quests/login rewards, so you make a habit of starting the game every day, and time limited shit to induce FOMO being the more obvious ones. The one I play uses both of those and has some absurdly long grinds for cosmetics (which I must grind because they are there). On a normal day I spend maybe half an hour, but when one of the frequent special events are active I can spend an hour or two. Or 6+ if one of the rare events are active.

The meta is also interesting, despite havung a low skill ceiling, this allows the game to feel like some sort of RTA 2d platformer game, the more strategic player wins, no other game has this, fighting games demand mechanical skill, Smash Ultimate demands your mind, your head, your ability to cheese in the most efficient way

I don't know what my most played game across all time actually is but on Steam I have the most hours on Skyrim and I'm sure no one here has played it and already formed an opinion.

For me though, no matter what anyone says, it's probably my favourite game ever. It might not be the best game I've played, but I do think it's my favourite. I love the music, the atmosphere, the cold feeling I have when I'm in Winterhold and the warmth inside when I enter The Frozen Hearth. It's in the way I have so many mods, to make whatever character I want and play them any way I like, the stories that come from playing and the experiences I've had throughout a decade and a half of playing Skyrim.

You know I got this game on launch day on 360? I think I've bought it 5 times in total. So really it probably is my most played...

mmos were cool in the 90s and early 2000s because they were basically chatrooms where you could hang out with your friends and meet new people. sometimes you explored zones and did quests, sometimes you just shot the shit in orgrimmar/stormwind/wherever, and every once in a while you got to do a dungeon, but the main thing was just socializing. live internet chat still felt novel to a lot of people, even if stuff like irc had already been around for years.

it wasnt like it is now where so many people seem to play solely for carrot on a stick progression shit, to the point where both the players and the devs have forgotten that the progression wasnt originally the main draw.

this is also why all the attempted nostalgia farms like eq classic, wow classic, etc end up falling flat. everyone homes in on recreating the "gameplay content" while ignoring the thing that actually made those games feel the way they did in the first place: the socializing.

The wonk and clunk. No one knew what works and what doesn't, including devs themselves. Even if there was a meta, there was no centralised structure to disseminate nor did players bothered to make it so. At best, we had stuff like Thottbot and Allakhazam which were only as good as the casual contributors. This state of things resulted in game having a wild west-like feel and made the world feel organic. Because there was no centralised structures or meta obsession, realm communities formed organically and ever realm had its own flavour, heroes, villains, lore, attitude, vibe and everything. No one was fully validated but more importantly, NO ONE WAS FULLY INVALIDATED. We could have stupid shit like "How to Paladin" featuring blood elf named Shepiwot where most of his videos were him spamming /dance and consecrate with One Piece OST playing in the background. We could have paladins like Hobbs whose sole fame gimmick was running everyone through SM. We could have Menace of Menethil like Agwe who turned ganking into career. Oxhorn, Zinwrath, I could go on.

The difference here (I assume) is that your game has additional non-cosmetic mtx that costs real money and is balanced around having said mtx plus frequently spending additional real money on it. My sexo monke game isn't balanced around having certain mtx and the only other things for sale is cosmetics and consumables you can't use in any mode that matters. The mtx does make the cosmetic grind less tedious, mind you.

"gacha" implies frequent borderline mandatory additional real money spending, if you want to make the game tolerable and/or keep up/be competitive. Often rng based. If that's not what you meant then don't call it gacha.

Now every item is normalized (stats and weapon damage) so whiny babies don't cry if they don't get the super-rare weapon. Getting the ridiculous weapons was a big part of the appeal of raiding.

If you actually got Sulfuras, you DESERVE to delete people. It took 39 other people weeks of clearing MC even after you got the heart to make the Sulfuron Hammer. Their collective will (and love for you) gave you that fucking weapon, it's time to bust heads with it. That's what fun is.

Spending 30 hours making your ilvl go up by 9 is fucking dullsville. It's just drudgery like leveling up Disgaea troops.

TF2 is the funnest multiplayer shooter ever created. I generally jump between many games and genres as opposed to sticking to one thing but this is the only thing that's kept me playing for ages.

Despite the game currently being in a horrible state, it is still miles above any other multiplayer shooter and no other game will come close to having everything this game has.

Hard agree

I got into TF2 around the gun mettle update so I had only a year of experiencing quickplay before Meet Your Match got rid of it. I didn't know at the time but I was playing at the twilight of TF2's glory days.

Kept playing though and racked up 3.5k hours, mostly in community trade servers when they were still active players just pissing around because casual sucks ass. Jungle Inferno was the only Major Update I get to live through, then the lack of updates came and I slowly lose interest but play it from time to time because I only had a shitty laptop that can play a handful of F2P games.

I still play TF2 on rare occasions if I just want to just chill around in pub servers because nowadays it's impossible to find a unique multiplayer FPS game where you can just dick around most of the time.

I don't know how I got into TF2, nor do I remember why I stuck with it but I can say I had a great time with it.

I don't know if bloons is in the same boat considering it really does try to "give you something to do". At least multiplayer games as well have the randomness of real people. To me real addiction is knowing that is exactly the same as before and still doing it over and over.
