genuinely insane era of gaming, you could be some spazzy drooling kid who didn't know any better, google flash games and have a grand ol' time, you'd think we'd have it better now, decades later and all that.
People used to make games for the fun of it and everyone enjoyed it.

There's still nothing like OMGPOP out there. The games were just clones of old games, but you would join a random room, shoot the shit, use your coins to grief the surviving players after you die, laugh, and make friends. It was more of a 2000s social network built around games. You could customize everything about your profile, send messages to anyone, invite them to matches, the whole nine yards. You probably couldn't have it in today's world and today's Internet now that I think about it.

Not just flash games, but the Internet in general. Photobucket, ImageShack, Tinypic, all gone forever, turning the few forums that remained after Reddit and Discord into a ghost town. The shuttering of geocities, PornHub and Tumblr purges, the death of Yahoo Answers, MySpace, etc. The Internet felt 100x as large 20 years ago as it does now despite it having 5 billion less people.

Go search for anything on Google right now. Remember how it'd say "About 1,360,000,000 results (0.64 seconds)" or whatever? Look again.

All of these fake nostalgia kids you see running around these days will never truly understand how much of a burning of Alexandria Geocities and co. dying was. It's part of why a lot of them think the Internet was some sort of ethereal, primordial realm where lofty concepts such as "exchanging information" and "videos" were yet to be realized. It's made shit like MMO discussion threads become nightmarish

Deviantart is definitely next on that hitlist and I can't wait for them to pretend like they understand how intense of a nuke that'll be while in their usual skinwalker getups

the thing though is that it wasn't quite woke that did it, but rather government/corporations attempting to gain control over the wider net
the sheer level of tracking and personal data being shared today would have been impossible if the wilder history of the internet was preserved, that's why it all needed to die

they needed to have a generation grow up without any knowledge of what the internet could be like, they needed the older generations, when they finally started using the internet more to never come into contact with ideas of anonymity and freedom of information and critically, decentralization

it's always been about control, and it's been like that forever, internet is just the latest things they sink their claws in, it's no different than the death of pirate radios

Early 2010s was the peak of flash, man.

>chatting in Kongregate chat rooms
I remember a feature where you would send links to games in the chat and it would embed the thumbnail and title of the game, and that system got exploited for sending memes and gifs and shit

compared to sites like facebook and twitter it's a beacon of neutrality by virtue of not having a single overarching figure who can control the flow of information
also the idea that it's only leftists who'd want to control what information you get access to is a dangerous mentality because it's flat out not true, you're letting the government propaganda get to you, trying to trick you that it's the "other side" who does it, rather than the ruling class as a whole

remember a rightwing politician has more in common with a leftwing politician than they do with you
they'll argue with them, but they won't even acknowledge you

it depends on the articles, and the bias is nowhere near as pronounced as most other sources of information by virtue of them having to at least share their sources

JavaScript doesn’t come with a development environment that lets you do things like animations out of the box.
JavaScript doesn’t have a file format like SWF.
Flash was deprecated by we never actually got a real successor.
Didn’t help that many flash games were not easy self contained downloads and some even relied on connecting to a remote server that went down. So Flash dig some of its grave too.
Webshit fucking sucks in general. If you can’t save it on your hard drive as a self contained file it’s going to be fucked. That’s my philosophy now.

Theres this great documentary about the real old BBS days of the internet, and if I wasn't a hack fraud I would try to get one going about that "Web 2.0" era right between when people could actually start putting real content through the tubes and when social media took over. some of them were pretty good but not enough to land in kino tier.
I used to play picrel as a teenager, a side from that there was also Sex Kitten Sim Date which was a walking RPG with a quiz type game
ZONE TAN or today called ZONE-SAMA had kino tier Ero games, but only aesthetically wise, i would say he put more effort in flash videos when it came to top quality.

Literally capitalism 101.
>make product that everyone loves
>now everyone uses product
>make product as money extracting as tolerable

The unfortunate thing is, these websites are tuned to appeal as much as possible to the point it's essentially abusive. We can never go back as a culture, in the same way the meth junky can never go back to being satisfied by a light jog. People need their dopamine loop and they don't care. The internet being heavily monetized is what killed it.

I swear the end of flash games had begun, once flash game developers started to beg people to play their games on mobile, and the mobile versions always had way more content than the originals, and some would even go as far to start UI designing their flash games as if they where mobile games, thats how you knew flash is dying, and a lot of flash developers where doing this, the first sign is when they gave you points or coins for following them on twitter or adding them on facebook.

It's fucked up how many Flash game sites plopped gore and porn right next to games that were ostensibly for kids.
I grew up with this site, DragonGamez, there was a SweeTTarts themed Kula Kula World clone and Spider Man and Hulk games on the same website that had a strip snake game called Unreveal Tournament, Dark Cut, and another game where you cut your own fingers off. I was too shit at the snake game to even know it was porn until over a decade later.

Swords and Sandals Immortals is pretty good, it's designed to sort of be the ultimate S&S game. It has the art style of 3, but an open world where you can go from town to town to become champion while there's a timer for when the final boss arrives. It's worth getting on sale.

Also, the dev decided to team up with another guy for his next project. It's called Lair of the Leviathan and it looks promising. I follow the dev logs on steam, but it's early development still. They mostly post about creating the dev tools so they can create content for the game faster in the future.

Flash games had limitations that essentially forced developers to reasonably scope their games so flash games tended to have a single fun concept or gameloop and then they’d make a bunch of different levels that iterated on that idea. Sort of like classic arcade game design. Modern indie games just want to be AAA games on a smaller scale with less budget

I bought the Armed With Wings release on Steam if any of you lads remember that. It's pretty good. It's a remake of the first flash game version. Very little is outright inferior, but I do miss the harsher blacks and some of the wilder animations like the first spin2win boss. I don't know why he hasn't released a sequel since 2017. Animations are nice, combat is nice, etc. Worth it if you liked Armed With Wings.

The first one is super clunky but you can feel the effort. The 2nd one lands better as befitting of a developer with experience. There's a side story game, Red Moon, where you play as the female character from 2. It's good, like the best of 2 and 1. Apparently there was an Armed With Wings 3 which I do not remember AT ALL. And finally there's Armed With Wings Continuum, which I do remember. It's good too. The clunkiest experience for you will definitely be the first game. Hope you have fun anon.

ALSO apparently the creator reanimated Power Star, holy shit.

Wikipedia is actually very centrally controlled at this point. Something like 80% of edits are from a core 3% of registered users, and most "common" pages are shadowlocked under an extremely small group of admins who review any changes before allowing them. You've probably noticed the ever increasing number of pages with "This is the most recently reviewed edit" tag at the top, which is their new way of formally locking a page without marking it as locked to avoid the rules that are supposed to prevent that sort of control. The site is extremely hierarchal with pages being grouped into topics and each topic being essentially run by a single admin with final approval authority, and most topics are controlled by a tiny group of admins who each run dozens of topics and communicate with each other about coordinated updates to terminology and "accepted fact". They also have an extremely aggressive citation review system that flags pretty much anything that remotely questions mainstream talking points as unreliable and bans them from being cited. There was a whole period in 2018 where nearly every page discussing aspects of Christian theology (immaculate conception, divine simplicity, the trinity, etc) suddenly had extremely generalized rabbinical criticism from a handful of Israeli authors added simultaneously, often copy pasted word for word between articles, then the pages were locked when normal editors started noting the citations led to articles that had next to nothing to do with the specific concept the article was discussing but were just broad critiques of christian theology. It ended up getting mostly reverted after enough users pointed out that the edits had been made literally minutes after the articles were posted and were very blatantly added by the authors themselves, but the admins fought tooth and nail about it.

One of the greatest flash game of all time imho, perhaps only beaten by AQW. Just a shame the netcode was so ass. Truly evergreen game. Every 6 months or so I still hop on stryde-sniper and get absolutely cooked by people. Had something for everyone. Base maps and school maps for the RPer, saws for chill parkour, bosscat1 deathmatches for just chill mindless pvp, sniper and rocket maps for tryhard 1v1s. So much depth in movement tech if you wanted to go that route.

A unity remake of this with better netcode would genuinely become a smash hit. Shame that Eric is lazy and doesn't give a shit about his IP.

You can still play flash games, but it doesn't feel genuine to me. I think it's because I got older and technology advanced well beyond flash gaming. In the early-mid 2000's, flash gaming was just something fun to kill time if you had access to a PC. The games were free and my schools didn't even block the sites, so I just played them in the library during lunch.

You had handheld gaming devices, but there was something about flash games that were good for turning your brain off. They passed the time by, and they were fun/simple to play. You could argue that mobile games replaced flash games, but to me they just aren't the same. Some mobile games might play/feel like a flash game, I suppose? Subway Surfer or Fruit Ninja could be good examples.

There was this one side-scrolling hack and slash where you're a ninja with a katana that absorbs the blood of your enemies to power up and every time you slashed a someone, their blood would spray out super hard. Your dude could jump super high across the screen in either direction, it was fucking awesome but I CANNOT remember the name of the game for the life of me. The title of the game may or may not have the word "Blood" in it.

used to love maxgames. i remember thats where i first played age of war and the murloc game. it was also cool because iirc there was a function where you could see literally all the games on one page with very small text. was really cool. anybody else use this site? feel like it doesnt get mentioned as much
>>
>>746494657
binding of isaac is not really that fucked up.
>>
>>746494689
maxgames has poor business practice, it tricked age of war creator, now they own the platform and the game.

Does anyone remember that game where you play as one of three factions? The factions were Chinese, Roman and I can't remember the third. It's of that move/grow/conquer genre, where there's a set number of resource points, and you own a point by having a greater number of units on it, with fights being determined entirely by numbers, and the units on each resource point growing over time. Each faction also had its own spells and diety to summon that could fuck things up. I remember only playing as the Chinese, and they were a pure numbers faction with high growth rates.
>>
Some of the games I remember liking:
>Interactive Buddy
>Sift Heads series
>Drag Racer V3
>Stick RPG
>Nanaca+Crash
>Sonny Series
>Meet N’ Fuck Series
>Any Escape the Room game I could find
>Gretel and Hansel
>Stick Arena
>Teen Titans: Battle Blitz

I was obsessed with the Madness Combat series but Madness Interactive was too hard for me.

i remember playing a game on andkon where you flew a colored airship around the screen while waves of other colored airships spawned from the sides of the screen. and i think you kept unlocking better weapons as you finished more levels. anyone know the name of that?

I never played that much of the original so I can't tell you how much of it is still playable but I haven't encountered any broken content as far as I'm aware in the hours i've played of it. Was supposed to have a steam release at the start of this month but thats been postponed. Still playable through their launcher though

I just picked it up and it's amazing. I'll be nolifing this. I played a lot of the OG back in the day as a kid and so far it's been literally exactly as I remembered it. My only worry will be how hard other people will tryhard with p2w, since the pvp and raiding is so integral to the identity of the game. I can see myself at least buying premium for the instant scavenges. Maybe we'll be seeing some fun guild action, I'm hyped as fuck.
>>
>>746495836

>Driver, but for the Shockwave audience
>>
One of the best flash games coming through. Actually a lot from Legos www/flashgames division is pure gold but they never get talked about as a whole, not anymore at least. They made gems like the Bionicle games, Junkbot, Spybot, and bunch of other pretty decent and well polished stuff, put them out for free and everyone loved them. At some point, hard to remember when, the division slowly turned into slopshop. Like Nitrome, if Nitrome lacked production quality.
>>
>>746496061
i don't understand why shockwave was so obscure. from what i heard, flash was not really meant for games while shockwave was more fit for it

jeet CEO. their SOP is just wringing a corpo dry until it drops. you may want to argue "but everyone that run a company did that, like jews". the jeets are unique in how quick they did it and how they replace no replacement. A jew will cut down a company overtime but they will also plant the seed for a new one, A jeet will just cut a company to the ground with one sweep and leave for another another.
