What's even the point of "nostalgia" if the nostalgic elements get changed?
>>
>>746453064
It's not just for oldfags but for newfags as well. Why would I want a 1:1 remake? I want it to be remastered and modernized but in good ways.

You say that like the music will be unrecognizable. It will likely be refined soundtracks based on the older soundtracks. The leitmotifs will likely still be there.

Fair, but the midi cheese is part of the appeal for me. There are also some sample based tunes (forest temple) and I wonder how they are going to remake those. Are they going to use HD samples or a bunch of shitty singers?

The ironic thing is, as a kid I thought Nintendo was cheap and cringe for not putting in voice acting. Now I'm dreading them putting it in. Similarly they finally translated their games to Dutch when I became good at English, and they made their games easy as shit when I became good at video games.

I will use this post as an excuse to share a piece of OOT PC news.
Mod support is currently experiencing a renaissance, and an alternative version of SOH has been established with the explicit goal of breaking OOT's limitations.
I think it's really funny that all of this finally happened the same year as OOTR.

>>
>>746466241
You seem to be confusing this remake for a wholly new game.
>>
>>746466404
This is the first Zelda remake.
>>746467223
Remakes are a wholly new game made from the ground up. If it's not differentiated from the original there would be no reason to do a remake, in lieu of a remaster.
>>
/v/ used to have circlejerks about
>heh i ackshully know the difference between a remake and a remaster
but now that Nintendo is making a remake we suddenly have a horde of retards claiming OOTR and WWHD are the same animal.
It's a pathetic display.
>>
>>746468405
Link's Awakening was a remake and as far as I know it didn't change any puzzles. Not sure, haven't played it.
>>
>>746453064
It's going to be made more like Twilight Princess. Because, by the developers own admission, they don't even know what made the N64 games tone and style. It was one part system limitations, one part random ideas and one part trying to emulate the older games. So with every 3D game that followed, they tried to emulate what Ocarina did. And never succeeded.

The big problem with OoT remake is it's going to lack the "tone" of the original. In the same way FF7 Remake did. They probably are also not going to restrain themselves and put in a ton of story edits to connect Ocarina of Time to every game that followed it and make it the anchor for all the timeline crap. Again, like FF7 Remake.
>>

Id like the combat to be improved, but I'd honestly really like it if the dungeons were changed, like the layout and puzzles were just different
I feel like making ANOTHER remake at this point would be kinda ass if its still the exact same block puzzles
I'm fine with those, but change them into new ones, so to speak, instead of just copy pasting them from 20 years ago
>>

It changed quite a bit, and brought in DX content, and a whole dungeon maker feature.

>Remake an old classic and add things that couldn't be added in the original due to technical limitations and /or time constraints. Make the game what it was always supposed to be according to the creators vision. Can be fantastic, can also be catastrophic. Final Fantasy VII Remake is somewhere inbetween. It would be great if OoT got this kind of remake (done right of course), but I doubt it.

>Remake a popular game without adding anything to it except modernizing it in some aspects. Mostly serves to get younger people invested in the franchise. And old fans will buy it anyway. Resident Evil Remakes are mostly this.

>Remake a game that had nice ideas poorly executed, or some deep but obvious flaws that could be fixed with a remake. I guess Final Fantasy 14 A Realm Reborn kind of falls into this category after the immense failure that was 1.0

Which of the first two will it be for OoT?
>>
>>746457094
The switch zelda games are especially why I think they're going to change a lot of shit up.

The simplistic block moving puzzles were fine thirty years ago when people weren't used to adventure games and puzzle solving in a 3d environment.
But by today's standards OoT 's puzzles and combat is baby's first adventure game tier.
Even the most simplistic shrines in BotW do more interesting things than half of the dungeons in OoT.

A good way to figure out if a game is really good is to imagine whether, with a more appropriate level design (even if it uses the same mechanics), it would be as playable as it was in the past.

Super Mario World, for example, is perfectly playable today, and there are ROM hacks that keep the mechanics intact but improve the level design, and the game is basically better than any modern 2D platformer. Therefore, SMW is a good game.
Doom 2 is another famous example. Modern megawads (even those that use all the vanilla mechanics), are better than practically every retro shooter released today. Therefore, Doom 2 is a good game.
Ocarina of Time, despite improving significantly with a decent campaign/adventure (there are good romhacks for this), unfortunately never becomes a really good game. That's why the remake can't just be more of the same… They'll have to change the game's fundamental mechanics, because it's just too flawed.

>>746471265
From the videos I've seen, they've removed all the visual and auditory feedback, like when you hit enemies in the original game, and they wobble, glow, and make a distinctive sound. These are things the Japanese have mastered for decades, but Westerners still have a hard time understanding. The new Star Fox sometimes has no feedback at all, just "realistic" effects when you hit enemies...
Feedback, in my opinion, is what makes things satisfying. The way your projectiles hit enemies, the way they explode, the sound they make, and so on. The new Star Fox is a total step backward in this regard.

I'm not interested in the idea of that making some 32x larger OOT game possible, I'm interested if it can be used to say, take the base game and make it 8x more detailed while still effectively running the native performance code.
People have pushed Source engine -beyond- its limits but the only effect is, while impressive, making the maps single-thread demanding.
>>
>>746472846
I don't think it's going to be like Star Fox 2026 where there is good voice acting, but could use some improvement, for example, the Macbeth train conductor.

no, not upscaled,

I'm just saying now, its better if you're an original fan like me, to abandon all hope. Anyone who was involved with the original ocarina of time's development has since moved on or changed their development goals and style. Aside needing to change because they cannot just release the same game over again, there's no one left that cares at Nintendo. Not even people like Aonuma's dumb ass who've been there since forever.

There is absolutely zero chance this will be for the original fans. It's going to be catered to newgen gamers, and Nintendo is going to cash in on their golden goose.

>>746475972

>>
>>746475364
I would argue a lot of the younger people in Nintendo, who grew up playing older games like Ocarina, would probably care a lot about doing a faithful remake. But it's people like Aonuma and Miyamoto, who control the production, who insist on change for the sake of change. The question is, will this remake be farmed out to the new people and mostly ignored, like the Link's Awakening one was. Or will the old veterans be a big part of it.

I also disagree it will cater to new gen gamers. It'll cater to whoever is making it. Nintendo isn't like Sony or most of the other companies chasing the phantom "modern audience." Instead they tend to obsess over doing something wildly different just to be different like I said. Which sometimes lands but more often than not leads to annoying the fanbase. Just not from the angle you're talking about.
>>
>>746476035
The biggest red flag on the teaser is the Triforce appearing on Link's hand. Before he's even started the journey or even talked to the Deku tree. This is a big sign they're going to alter the plot to focus more on timeline crap and memberberries for the fans.

It may seem like a minor thing but there's an actual story reason in the original game you don't see the trifroce on his hand until the final battle. But Nintendo either forgot or is actively trying to change it. Like they've been doing for a lot of things since Wind Waker.

>They'll have to change the game's fundamental mechanics, because it's just too flawed.
Like, I don't technically disagree, because I believe SOME mechanical changes are necessary, but the amount of mechanical change (in terms of what actions Link is capable of) the game would need is absolutely minimal, as the game is already incredibly expressive in a way that few games are, but just needs some refinement that lets this shine.

The game benefits greatly from taking advantage of the degree to which it allows "dynamic action problems", i.e. there can be obstacles and enemies placed in strategic ways which behave slightly unpredictably, preventing you from trivially solving problems without taking damage or wasting resources by just performing something straightforwardly, but which can be dealt with by improvising various things that make use of your various tools and abilities. Dungeons based around this type of thing can be taken very far.
>>
>>746473874
>LE MAGIC TECH WIZARDY WOWZORS OMG.
That was genuinely completely warranted though. People vastly underestimate how much harder it is to do a number of non-trivial things in combinations that naturally conflict with each other than it is to pull them off in isolation. If anything people are downplaying how much of an accomplishment this was and is. It would be cool to incorporate some of this stuff in the remake as long as it's done tastefully.
>>
>>746473248
The SoH engine has been able to load highly detailed modded graphical objects for years now, and you can download these mods off Game Banana. Full reskinned overhauls of the game already work on older versions of it.

These limits have nothing to do with that, but are about letting you make the equivalent of much larger, more expansive and detailed maps from later Zelda games with more complex structure that the game would otherwise not be able to handle, and add these totally new scenes to the existing game.

Im pretty sure only osawa understands oot, does he even still work at ninty?
This game is probably going to be a dumpsterfire if they change the dungeons. There's not a single game out there that managed to recreate a similar feeling set of dungeons.

All 4 directors have recent credits, actually most of the staff appear to still be at Nintendo.
>>
>>746471864
It didn't do much that Zelda didn't do half a year earlier.
>>
>>746455038
Why would anyone that loves OOT want a mutilated version of it? Either go 1:1 remake with flashy unreal engine graphics, or make a new game.
Either way its gonna suck major dick and balls. They will remove every single bit of soul from the game trying to appeal to "modern audiences".

There should be no possibility of it being like this because not even BOTW or TOTK was like that and they were open world games. Nintendo knows to respect the player's intelligence is what those games proved.
>>
>>746494275
>respect the player's intelligence
That's a generous way to put it. They trust them to not be completely retarded but it's nothing like a 90s point and click game or even dark souls.
>>
>>746470241
I don't really think saying it brought it DX content means anything when every version of the game available after the DX version came out was the DX version. They didn't put the regular one on the 3DS eshop or on the switch emulator, they clearly think the DX version replaced the original.

>>
>>746497326
Yeah, I don't know why people are expecting it. Nintendo is doing the usual pattern of teaser trailer first, and they think OoT itself is high profile enough to sell, but people act like they're hiding something.

>Nintendo knows to respect the player's intelligence is what those games proved.
They're sandbox games with unskippable tutorials (if you try to leave you don't get to actually interact with anything on the ground world to show that you're not ready since you just get void warped back to where you fell from), they only have 4/5 short dungeons, you're given a frequently updated quest log and map markers, and TotK stops what you're doing mid-tutorial to make you learn about fucking Heart Containers because they had to account for TotK possibly being someone's first Zelda and for how much fucking stupider young people got in the 6 years since BotW.

Nintendo really killed all leaks, right? /v used to have tons of threads about Nintendo direct, leaks and rumors and now only very bad fakes and barely even.
The game is coming out in a couple of months and we know fucking nothing about it, only that it has realistic graphics.
>>
>>746500058
I still don't get how the great plateau is a "tutorial". It's the same game as it is later on, just smaller. I died more frequently on the great plateau than I did anywhere else. I understand that you want to skip it on replays, but still.

>Nintendo really killed all leaks, right
OoT Remake and Star Fox 26 were literally leaked ahead of time. Plus we had the Zelda 40th anniversary hardware packaging proofs leaked more recently as well.
>>
>>746455038
The aspect that comes with this is that the new "modernization" will be canon.

Let's say they remove Bongo Bongo and make something different. Is this an alternate timeline or is this canon?
>>
>>746500621
>I still don't get how the great plateau is a "tutorial".
Because it's where the game teaches you core mechanics and concepts. The Plateau Shrines tell you how to use your Runes, and Old Man explains/demonstrates various mechanics around the Plateau.
>>
>>746500886
>The Plateau Shrines tell you how to use your Runes
Maybe with a small handful of short textboxes. Old Zelda games had you finding items throughout the game, so by that logic the entire games were tutorials.
>>
>>746453064
The original is readily available on NSO
The original and 3DS versions are infinitely emulateable with tons of optional adjustments if you like
There’s no basis for complaints against a remake trying something new when preservation of the original is done by both Nintendo and fans alike
>>
>>746456557
They did a good job with Star Fox. I love the midi samples of 64 but the orchestration is nuts, Meteo for example sounds so epic and grand. An orchestrated Hyrule Field theme would make me nut
>>
>746501070
so you're just being obtuse on purpose
>>
>>746501159
It boils down to this.

If Nintendo is going to remake OoT AGAIN, NOW, it better literally the best thing ever ever made or there's basically not even a point to it. You could take the game as is, preserve it as well as you can, fix the things that are actually wrong with it and take everything far enough that there's nothing about it that you can point to and say "but this other game did x better", and you would actually achieve that and it would trivially mog the absolute fuck out of whatever GTA6 is going to be a hundred times over and they could release that and rub it in everyone's face with a " I hope you rike it".
>>
>>746501159
They're spending resources on pure cringe that could be spent on something actually new.
>>
show of hands: how many of you wanting this remake to be "new" and complaining about the the idea of it being "a rehash" also happily bought into tears of the kingdom

>>

>being "a rehash"
There's absolutely no problem with it being a "rehash" of the absolute GOAT of gaming. Anyoen who says they want it to have 'freeclimbing' or whatever about 'modern standards' should shoot themselves.

There would absolutely be a problem though if nothing substantial is added to it and it just ends up a UEslop moviegame version of something otherwise already bordering nigh on perfection with a dozen existing releases.
>>
>>746501625
Tears isn't a rehash

>villain the same as BotW
>Zelda loses everyone in the past and seals herself away for many years to try to help Link like BotW
>tons of reused assets from BotW

>>
64 OOT is already exactly what I want it to be. The DS port was superfluous. I didn’t care for the Link’s Awakening Remake. I would rather Nintendo try new things with this remake. Not BOTW style, but overhauled dungeons and side quests and character moments like the manga. I am normally a faithful remake or no remake kind of guy but Nintendo still makes excellent first party games so I trust them to do right by one of their classics. If my trust is misplaced, I will always have the original.
>>
>>746502565
Using those parameters almost every single Zelda is a rehash. It has a significantly altered BotW map, the sky and underground, and entirely new abilities including ascend which completely changes how you interact and traverse the map. I could go into far more detail but why bother.

The more ideas OoT Remake gets from TotK the better. I'm also very intrigued by what they plan to implement from Hyrule Warriors since they said they were going to do that

No? They've reused the LttP map several times, TP is a complete rehash of OoT by your definition, MM entirely reuses assets from OoT
