Fallout 4 is a good looter shooter but not a good rpg. Then it turns to a reeeeally shit once you make it to the institute.

don't you need to feed them manually anyway? or can you use the resources in storage?

Fallout is a good game with a great lore, but given to a terrible gaming company. Bethedsa made sure to make Fallout the most boring post apocalyptic FPS to exist.
>>
>>746458993
The most fun I had was playing FO4 with no tracers and realistic weapon damage.
I fucking love turning a corner and being 1shot by a sniper hiding in a building somewhere.
>>
I loved the settlement building but I wish there was a point to all the defenses. Getting a couple bandits here and there was not really what I expected after seeing all the defensive stuff I could place down.

They actually created a proper wave survival mode for the settlements and just shoved it into the CC store.
>>
Anyone else completely burned out on Bethesda IP at this point? Feels like it's all dead. Starfield flopped hard, Elder Scrolls 6 has been teased for almost a decade and still doesn't even have a release year, and I don't think we're ever going to get another good, offline, single player RPG like New Vegas or Oblivion.
>>
>>746462716
I lost all hope of new games a long time ago. At the very least we have mods that make these good old games endlessly replayable.
>>
>>746462189
OMFG THANK YOU SO MUCH for letting me know! I might actually go back to fo4 now!
>>
>>746459792
By the time I reach mid-game I have enough ammo that I never have to think about it again.
>>
>>746462861
Just don't buy it like an idiot. You can easily find all these CCs if you know where to look.

>>746459167
Every game of theirs since 2006 has been a good looter and or shooter but not an actual RPG. They haven’t made an RPG since 2002 and have never made a fallout game in general.
>>
>>746463069
I wouldn't say that, because Oblivion, Fallout 3, Skyrim, and Starfield have absolutely terrible itemization. Finding loot in these games isn't fun at all.
>>
So I just started a Survival playthrough in this game and the restrictions seem really bad like cutting back your carry weight in half and no fast travel allowed.
This seems really bad since the whole game is built around collecting trash for settlements and earning money and fast travel since so many quests can just direct to far off random locations.
Is it even fun or is it just a poorly thought out autism only playthrough?
>>
>>746465204
It expects you to use settlements to build doctors and farms across the map and gather resources through scavenging stations.

>>
>>746465204
The mechanics can be fun, but you have to invest in carrying capacity and also the game itself is still just fucking stupid.
>>
>>746465398
But you can't even use those elements in the settlements unless you focus on charisma and above level 14-20.
What are you supposed to do until then or if you don't focus on a charisma build?
It's basically impossible to have a home location from what I'm seeing unless you spec into charisma.
Is a strong charisma focus the only viable build in survival?

Why do people feel the need to say this? Who even said it was an RPG in the first place? I don't see the phrase anywhere on the game.

You can increase your Special stat as you level up. And you only need 6 Charisma for settlements.

basically i just work from sanctuary until around level 15-20, clearing out the top left of the map gathering exp and upgrading weapons
once you're strong enough, go downtown and take hangman's alley, then use it as a base for the entire game. get a legendary item with sprinters for +20% movespeed (unfortunately it's RNG)

I doubt I'll ever play Fallout again unless it's 1 or 2. I liked 3 and NV when I played them (and several years afterwards) until I played Fallout 4. That game made me hate the franchise and Bethesda.

Man, I am trying to play Survival mode but I'm getting hit with ailments constantly and have no access to doctors until I reach the opposite side of the map.
Playing for 5 minutes without drinking water causes ailments, not sleeping for 10 causes ailments, not eating for a couples of minutes is causing ailments.
Traveling long distances without finding a bed that is not surrounded by enemies has caused me to not be able to save anywhere and then dying and losing a good bit of progress from dying in one hit from low level enemies.
Survival is zero fun, I'm going to mod it to add some basic things back like fast travel and maybe see if there is something that adds transportation so I can a good balance of having to travel by foot and not have it just be a complete time sink.

It's not a CRPG. It's fucking DOS. Original Fallout games need Diablo 2-style remake and nothing more.
>>
>>746480590
DOS (divinity original sin?) is a CRPG.
>Original Fallout games need Diablo 2-style remake
what? absolutely no.
>>
>>746480790
>DOS (divinity original sin?) is a CRPG.
Yeah, but it's a new era of trashy CRPGs that can barely even be called CRPGs. Following in the footsteps of Dragon Age and Mass Effect, the genre is turning into a parody of itself. BG3 is probably the best example of this, literally focusing more on presentation than substance.
>what? absolutely no.
Why? All a remake needs to be is a playable version of the game with obvious issues fixed and optional new graphics.
>>
>>746480554
Nah I want more challenge but bullshit is bullshit and I'm not alone in thinking they fucked up the survival mode.
Looking at mods right now one that lets people tweak the settings for survival is very popular mod with over a million downloads.
There is a way to do these kind of mods and stupid shit like not having access to doctors for the a long time when every single need like water, sleep and food can cause ailments in minutes of play time and cannot be fixed without a doctor or healing creations that require a bunch of ingredients that will take hours to collect is just one bullshit example of many and how poorly thought out this mode is.
>>
>>746480925
>CRPGs that can barely even be called CRPGs
nonsense. DOS is orders of magnitude more complex than any isometric fallout.
>Following in the footsteps of Dragon Age and Mass Effect,
what the actual fuck are you talking about. have you played any of the 3 games you are mentioning?
>BG3 is probably the best example of this, literally focusing more on presentation than substance.
if BG3 the only larian game you have played? neither os1 nor os2 are anything like bg3.

I can only play this game on survival. I still find it to be fun.
>General Tips
>Plan out your build before character creation
Perk Points are precious. We don't have enough to waste.
>put a few points in END
Just for the HP. Ignore the perks. A few points in Toughness and Life Giver can be a big help early on. Will delay your build though.
>become a stealth sniper
zzz
>play blitz melee
OP and fun. Worth doing at least once.

>Get some settlements online.
You don't need to fill them out with settlers but supply lines are crucial. Build a water pump and some defenses at all of them. It's a good source of free fresh water and a bed.
>Starlight Drive
Helpful while you're clearing out lexington and corvega. Dump all the loot you get from those areas in here.
>Hangman's Alley.
Always overlooked in regular gameplay but on survival this is the most valuable settlement in the entire game. Central location, close to DC, close to many merchants, close to many dungeons and main story quests too. Small build area though.
>Return to Sanctuary sometime and just fill the entire river with water purifiers
Each purifier will make some free Purified Water
>If you join the Brotherhood you get to call in a Vertibird to fly you places
>If you're in the institute you can can TP to the institute then exit at the CIT ruins

Also don't forget about the t-45. You can use it to clear out some early areas like corvega and the satellite station.
>>
>Play Fallout 4
>play
The gameplay is slop that was jank as fuck back when it launched, and has since aged like fine Botox in a walled THOT's mug.

If someone can one day fix how the jank simulator plays, and adds co-op, we'll have a pastime renaissance. As it stands, however, even with mods, the game is only worth it until you have to press buttons.

The mod is interesting and too much effort for what it is, but I'm really not sure about its compatibility. It adds and edits a whole bunch of stuff all over the map, and I remember having issues with it back in the day, but now I've installed it in the 700 modslist and it seems to be working. Maybe that Previs Guardian or something else that's come out since then has actually made it work better.
>>
>>746483495
Thanks for the tips, there are some changes I like but other are hard to see as being more than just tedious. I'll keep on with the playthrough, maybe it'll start to gel with me as I play.
