I'm getting filtered by the ones where you have to record yourself doing something then use it in a puzzle. Maybe I'm just retarded, because every time a puzzle like this crops up in a game I spend ages on it
>>746482048That's objectively the worst mechanic in the game, don't worry about it.Anyway I hope my fellow puzzlescholars know picrel's releasing in a few days. Demo was great.
>>746482048They made them way easier to use in the remake but yeah they're still annoying.I didn't think they'd even make a 3rd one but am pretty hyped considering the themes sound like they'll be way cooler.
>>746482048They're always the shittiest puzzles. It feels you're cheesing even if you use the intended method. I looked up a handful of puzzles I was stuck on and most were clone puzzles
>>746483467I think clone puzzles where the gimmick is recording and playback are fine.Clone puzzles where you have an active clone that mirrors or repeats your inputs can kiss my ass especially if said clone kills you on collisions.
Does anyone know the game of the game where you were a snail and had clones of yourself
>>746482048I played through the whole The Room series prior to pic related because VR people said the game was good. Turns out it was the worst in series with the worst single puzzle in the series.
What are the best puzzle games that really make me feel like a genius, but ones that aren't just "find the devs retarded esoteric solution"?
I bought the entire Rusted Lake series and am playing them. They(the older ones, because they probably are just flash games) feel like flash P&C games but I'm still vaguely enjoying how weird they are.
>>746484656I never played the VR entry, but I'm not surprised to read your post. VR is a gimmick and a fad, and many VR games are bad games.I'm a big fan of the rest of the series, especially The Room 3. Which ones did you prefer?
The ship one was KINOThe first Room was dogshit
>>746482048Don't think, just start doing shit.
>>7464856063 is probably my favourite but they all blur together. As with many VR games, the main obstacle to progress is motion controls. It also adds more animations and required actions for things to happen than the normal games to account for the motion controls. The worst puzzle I mentioned is a falling ball plunketto style puzzle where you press organ keys to alter the path of the balls to hit the correct zones at the bottom. Controllng it is a nightmare with waggle and I only got through bh sheet luck
>>746485024Challenging-but-fair: Stephen's Sausage RollBaba-like wonder without Baba's cruelty: Patrick's ParaboxFeeling smart: The Talos Principle 2 + DLCMultiple solutions: Opus Magnum and the Zachtronics games in generalHonorable mention: The Witness, but there's a puzzle or two that cross into esoteric territory
>I can't plan more than fifteen seconds ahead>don't worry my nigga that shit is impossible fr fr finna ask the devs to remove dat mechanic it raycis gatdamHoly fucking nigger moment.
>>746485024I really liked Lorelei and the Laser Eyes. Putting it all together made me feel smart.
>746486191Did a bot go schizomode or something?
>>746486239I'm sorry you're low IQ.
>>746486121I second Patrick's Parabox but calling Stephen's Sausage Roll challenging but fair really undersells the difficulty and tedium.
I do not care for sokobanshit
>>746482048It's really not that hard if your IQ is more than two digits.
>>746486514You're asking a lot.
>>746486565Yeah I know I'm posting on /v/
i enjoyed portal 1 and 2, action puzzle gamespure puzzle games like talos and the witness got me fucked up halfway
>>746486674nothing wrong with stepping away from a puzzles and coming back later with a fresh brain portal 1 and 2 and I guess you mean zelda puzzles are not a high bar lol
Baba IS Slop
>>746482048I dropped this when the clone mechanic showed up. I was having fun until then.
Is the talos principle remake worth it at all? The game already looked great and it's a fucking puzzle game so I don't see the point. Did it add any new puzzles. Did they keep all the easter eggs?
>>746486967They reworked the clone stuff so its easier to use whist still being tricky. Beyond graphics its exactly the same save the one new DLC. The DLC story wise is meh but puzzle wise pretty damn brutal, hardest Talos for sure, but is not that many puzzles so I don't know if it justifies an entire purchase. But it does come with a puzzle editor so there's community stuff.
>>746486967>Is the talos principle remake worth it at all?Yes. It's a lot of fun to play a freshened-up first game, and they made some nice QoL changes for the recorder mechanic, and there is fan-made puzzle content too. The "In the Beginning" DLC has a lot of original content, including "Daydream," the most difficult puzzle in the entire series.
Oh, and also...>>746486967>Did they keep all the easter eggs?I don't remember. Who cares? The silly references to other stuff the least-interesting thing about The Talos Principle.
>>746487037>>746487263>>746487360So no, thanks for replying I guess.
Post Puzzle kino
Post good puzzle games but with sexy anime girls
>>746482048Threadly reminder that kitten died in an "accident"
Is Spacechem any good? It's good really good reviews but I don't know shit about chemistry
>>746487660That's a good one.I'm still shilling The Message From Deep Space. Language translation game like Chants of Senaar but better.I'd always heard the principle that "man could communicate with aliens through pure mathematics" and accepted it, but this game actually shows off how it's possible. Plus great writing and themes.
>>746488409Do you have to be good at mathematics for this game?
Each time you stop at the next step while recording the clone, hold fast forward for a few seconds so there's basically no chance you'll fall behind while following it, when you do that the clone puzzles are totally fine.
>>746488134>but I don't know shit about chemistryGood, you don't need it. Chemistry is just the skin the game wears. It's actually just programming puzzles. It gets fucking hard later on so don't feel bad if you can't finish the game, you should at least be able to enjoy a good chunk of it. Alternatively, Opus Magnum is generally the easiest Zachtronics game and probably a better starting point if you're not dead set on SpaceChem.
>>746488478Unless you flunked out of second grade you'll be okay. If you can recognise 3.14159 and are able to use the exponent function on the in-game calculator it's fine. There's a couple of other checks in various domains, like knowing what an isotope is or your periodic table or whatever, but everything mandatory is provided in a reference sheet.
>>746482048>Maybe I'm just retardedFound your problem!Keep at it!>>746482684>Even mentioning the UE5 slop DEmakeGo back.>>746483467>This literal copeYou niggers are just pathetic.
>>746489159Anon by third one I mean the Talos 3 that's coming out next year.
>>746482625I played most of the demo but the movement just felt unintuitive and off-putting
>>746489202You mentioned the REMAKE, you demented boomer. The 3rd game is just a pathetic joke. The OG team is long gone.
Boy I love puzzle game threads on /v/ where you can't mention anything being difficult otherwise you get shitposted with "are you brown"
I will NOT let this die
>>746486121The 3rd part of the dlc in talos principle 2 is painfully hard, I could only solve like the first two puzzles and each one took me like an hour to do, and the 2nd part was really hard at times as well.
>>746489330>The OG team is long gone.ONE guy is gone - the one who kept the ship afloat, mind you, while the rest just went full retard.
QRD on the Talos team? Should I not buy anything from Croteam anymore?
>>746489330You are right sorry I forgot what I posted before. I still am keen for 3, but I guess its only because they've shared only the basics so far that sound nice. The focus more on death feels more interesting them "um society good or bad?" that 2 tried to show.
>>746491964CTO who was responsible for their in-house engine left the company (supposedly due to a dispute about the direction their CEO and Devolver wanted to take the company) and they then dropped it in favor of TAKE A WILD FUCKING GUESS WHICH ENGINE.
>>746492487It's also obvious that a new generation is working on the games now.Back then you had easter eggs and jokes about Total Commander, Elite and the like while now you have Amonguses and the ability to make your robots pog-face.
The first Talos Principle is truly kino and incredibly aesthetic. The Talos Principle 2, even though it has superior puzzle design is nowhere near as comfy of an experience with the reddit bots constantly chirping in your ear and the more electronic sound palette.
Do we have a guide to quality puzzle games?
>>746482048Cute kot
Any other good puzzles in the last 3 years?Something like that new Sokoban game coming out from Blow or fp games like this and portal?
>>746482048This series makes me feel so dumbAlso is the fourth one the best one? I feel like I'm enjoying it a lot more, it feels more intuitive
>>746493554Superliminal is pretty good.
i'm going to shill for IcelyPuzzles on YT.the guy plays a lot of niche little puzzle games, usually free or very cheap.about 50% of the uploads are Baba is you modpacks with a gimmick tho
>>746494442>zoomers cannot play games>they just watch others
hey puzzlefags any recommendations for riven/myst likes?i prefer an interwoven big ass mystery level that slowly unravels than the go from level to level sloppreferably games made in the last decade
>>746486212I'm surprised nobody ever mentions that game in this kind of threads/v/ truly doesn't play games...
>>746495758Can I offer you big ass mystery that slowly unravels as you go from level to level slop? The Case of The Golden Idol has a pretty kino story, but the DLC is just okay.
>>746495771They do but it just doesn't seem to be the go to. I was recommended it here.
>>746496063Got any other escape room games like Lorelei?
>>746485024Try out 868-Hack if you want kind of a blend of puzzle, arcade, and rogue. Unironically though, also look into logic constraint puzzles. You may find Slitherlink, Nurikabe, or even good old fashioned Sudoku worth your time. Opus Magnum seems to give the maximum flexibility in puzzle games though. You can solve each puzzle your own way unlike most puzzle games.
>>746488134Spacechem is legit one of the greatest puzzle games ever made. You don't need any chemistry. The game is quite challenging though.
>>746495758Outer Wilds and Blue Prince are easily the best games in this genre.
Shilling Theta and Paralldox on Worldlines it has its flaws but overall a fantastic puzzle game with some really challenging levels
>>746496130bump
What's the opinion on detectiveslop puzzles like pic related?
>>746486967no, games now run like shit and looks jeetified
