Here and there occasionally its good to talk about yeller and the things it in turn inspired. Ive been thinking a lot about the good and bad of the new update, more people ending up seeing it which brought old writers back, might inspire new writers, and then theres the japanese translation that I think is about done? Watching communities of video game related matters form and change is pretty unique isnt it? Even back in the days of the old internet people would band together to create things related to the games they liked.Share with me your thoughts on the journey the game has had, and maybe how it might have inspired you to do something you might not have otherwise.

honestly seeing foreign communities get into western games is always a really surreal experience. Like seeing the very very niche japanese fanbase for quake 4 for instance. Since the average game in their market is so different from what we get inundated with, it's kind of neat seeing their perspective, even if sometimes they have really shit opinions.
>>746531992Sorry anon, this isnt a general?
>>746531604I can't believe it took them this long to get a japanese translation, all the other translations took a few months or a year, japanese can't be that hard, right?Anyway I do hope the translation brings more atention to UTY, even if they might only now the characters from the updated sprites
>>746531604I wish I could get back to work right now, but my wrists have developed Toby syndrome.
>>746532349>I can't believe it took them this long to get a japanese translation, all the other translations took a few months or a year, japanese can't be that hard, right?Honestly I have no idea. I know to me trying to learn it, it was insurmountable, but I might just be stupid.but yeah seeing some new attention on it would be good, especially from a community that treats the bullying shit western communities do much differently.
>>746532062>Japanese fanbase for quake 4 for instanceI thought japs were alergic to FPS games?
>>746532062>even if sometimes they have really shit opinions.Such as?
>>746532550most are, that's why I mention it being very niche. there's a small number of FPS fans over there and they get stuff that we were calling "brown an bloom" and call it a hidden gem because it's so different from what they were used to.>>746532624Such as their takes on the metroid series. I don't think they've ever thought too strongly of it, and I'm pretty sure other m was their best selling one? I don't know how dread did actually so I may be wrong now.
>>746532469Sorry to hear that anon, I hope it feels better soon. Make sure not to over exert it.
>>746532530>Honestly I have no idea. I know to me trying to learn it, it was insurmountable, but I might just be stupid. There must be something about Japanese because DRY1 got a chinese translation before UTY could get a japanese one.>but yeah seeing some new attention on it would be good, especially from a community that treats the bullying shit western communities do much differently. The japanese also make their own fangames with wacky ideas, like that one about a nuke that's about to drop in the Underground so you must escape before it drops, I wonder if we will see more absurd AUs like that for Yellow.
>>746532469>but my wrists have developed Toby syndrome. Are your wrists writing yuri on thei own?
>>746532798>There must be something about Japanese because DRY1 got a chinese translation before UTY could get a japanese one.that's honestly insane to me. There must be. I know that kanji and whatever chinese calls kanji because it's escaping me right now, are a pain to learn, but maybe chinese is structured in a way that makes it a bit easier to pick up? I know that japanese has a lot of homophones because a lot of phonetics were dropped over the centuries from it's chinese roots (also a large part of why the language is so pun heavy).> like that one about a nuke that's about to drop in the Underground so you must escape before it drops, I wonder if we will see more absurd AUs like that for Yellow.honestly yeah I'd be down for some absurdity like that. might be fun
I'm still thinking on that Hellescape game and how something that's meant to be original can resemble a fangame so much, I should give the game a try one day, mostly because I've been playing more fangames recently.
>>746533685THOSE FUCKING LIPSI'd be curious to hear what it's like when you do play it, though I doubt I'll give it the time myself. I've been letting myself spend more time on playing various fangames lately but there's a good amount of stuff I still just skip.
>>746532958No, the other syndrome, where they start hurting for literally no reason on their own.
>>746532958fuck, he's got the evil dead hand except its obsessed with yuri instead of murder.
>>746534016>>746533685You just know the artist draws bimbo tf comics on his alt
>>746534206> except its obsessed with yuri instead of murderHonestly, I think that's worse
>>746534361if your hand causes you to yuri, better to cut it off, than for the whole of you to be cast into the pits of tobert.
>>746534361>>746534485What if it spreads? maybe cutting it off is the most sensible choice
>>746534552Makes me glad I just have wristile dysfunction instead.
>>746534016>I'd be curious to hear what it's like when you do play it, though I doubt I'll give it the time myself. It will take a while before I play it, I'm mostly curious because of it being Not!Deltarune, there might be something fun there at least one original idea>>746534296I don't know why the artist thought giving her those bimbo lips was a good idea, from what I've seen the character is pretty much a Toriel reskin, so maybe they are into bimbo Toriel
Which fangame will be the next yellow?
>>746535263I still have hopes for Wildfire
>>746534720>It will take a while before I play it, I'm mostly curious because of it being Not!Deltarune, there might be something fun there at least one original ideayeah fair. I know that I post harshly in regards to this game but I mean I'd be curious if they were inspired to add some interesting ideas to it. after all if it's a fangame I'd give it that much grace right? It's just easy to be a bit skeptical when it carbon copies but then tries to call itself original. It's like how people think that so many games are "quirky earthbound ripoffs" but very few actually are, and the ones that actually try to be near 1:1 earthbound in a box that's not labeled earthbound fly under that radar.>>746535263I would really like Naranja to somehow take that crown. I know naranjanon has a lot of work ahead of him, and no shade on wildfire, but well, I like what I'm seeing from naranja a lot.
>>746534016>>746534296>>746534720I think there's something to be said about adding lipstick to anthro characters, kinda like the debate about anthros not looking bald despite having no hair, but prominent lips/lipstick is a less common feature among these characters compared to hair.
>>746535263Probably either cooking with kindness or kindred spirits since they seem a decent ways in development. I don’t fucking know what’s happening with wildfire but even if/when it releases it probably won’t have AS much impact as yellow purely because it’s protag blatantly doesn’t align with deltarune’s “canon” orange. Also weird to know that future fangames will likely just ape deltarune’s human designs over original ones.
>>746535263Futility will shadowdrop tomorrow and fully overshadow the other fangames, to the point the rest of the fangame devs will decide to cancel their projects knowing they will never reach a similar level of quality
>>746535635yeah I can see that. I think like uh, take rivet for instance. you can see her lips a bit, especially in that one wink animation people used to post a lot, and it looks slightly odd but still kind of cute, but I think with lipstick it would hit me with "what manner of harlot is this?"artstyle probably also has an effect.
>>746535739>there's no design document because the dev decided to simply skip to making a complete game in record time (with great ease I might add).
>>746535612>and the ones that actually try to be near 1:1 earthbound in a box that's not labeled earthbound fly under that radar.Mind giving some examples? The only game that I can think of that fits that description is Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass.
>>746535835No fangame dev can go from nothing to a completed game that fast (with the sole exception of Futility dev of course)
>>746535870ah actually pulsating mass was the one that I was thinking of. I know there are some others but I'd be lying if I said I knew others names off hand.which kind of plays into what I'm saying, since the ones that are less direct are the ones people always bring up and call that.I've heard some good things about pulsating mass so it's not really a bad thing to be so directly inspired if the game is good.
>>746536040The Rohan Kishibe of fangames. Truly I kneel. He saved us from the damage that seeing his manuscript would have caused.
>>746535635Roxy from FNAF looks alright with lipstick
>>746535612>yeah fair. I know that I post harshly in regards to this game but I mean I'd be curious if they were inspired to add some interesting ideas to it. after all if it's a fangame I'd give it that much grace right?Apparently they are reworking the entire demo based on feedback because people complained about the game being too similar to Deltarune, that only makes me more interested in trying to current build.>It's just easy to be a bit skeptical when it carbon copies but then tries to call itself original.Sometimes I wonder what was the thought process of making the first area look like a pallet swap of the scarlet forest.>>746535612>I would really like Naranja to somehow take that crown. It most likely will be another game, even if Naranja and Wildfire manage to come out I don't see either game being developed before some of the other fangames, they can be "The third Yellow" but something like CWK might become the second one.
>>746536206The animatronics are kind of ugly so adding lipstick doesn't change Roxy's desing much really.speaking of which, we have an example of an anthro with lipstick in Undertale, Bratty uses it, but she doesn't really have lips
>>746536206I think that is partially the design and style of the creature lending it as well. The lipstick does look weird, but the whole design looks weird so it's "fine" and works.>>746536338bratty also looks kind of trashy intentionally so it doesn't really conflict with that
>>746535263I was about to say TS!Underswap, but seeing the struggles of the lead dev it might never come out, and even if it did, the fact that its an swap AU and not a game with a fully original cast makes me doubt if it will ever have the same popularity as UTY. Outertale is a full lenght fangame but no one cares for the game because its based on a swap AU.
>>746536226>Apparently they are reworking the entire demo based on feedback because people complained about the game being too similar to Deltarune,Hell, that's got me interested too.
>>746535660>wildfire but even if/when it releases it probably won’t have AS much impact as yellow purely because it’s protag blatantly doesn’t align with deltarune’s “canon” orange.I want to believe that won't matter if the game is good, most of the designs for the fangame humans don't align with the flowers, Olive from CWK doesn't look like Green at all, and the girl from UT Promise isn't a fully grown man on a tutu either.
>>746536226>Apparently they are reworking the entire demo based on feedback because people complained about the game being too similar to Deltarune, that only makes me more interested in trying to current buildalright then maybe I'll keep an eye out on it at least. would be interesting to see if they try and make it more "their own" if they want to make it a standalone game.>Sometimes I wonder what was the thought process of making the first area look like a pallet swap of the scarlet forest.maybe they got into the mindset that making a fangame was the wrong approach when internally what they wanted at the time was essentially fangame. Or maybe they were thinking about how like that one yume nikki fangame, I think .flow? whatever it's called it's a fangame but it's wholly original too.>It most likely will be another game, even if Naranja and Wildfire manage to come out I don't see either game being developed before some of the other fangames, they can be "The third Yellow" but something like CWK might become the second one.that's fair though I still want Naranja to get big appeal. so fine, third yellow! But yeah CwK I remember when the demo was first being talked about when it was at an exclusive event location, and Im impressed that they really went through and made it, even if I feel certain ways about the style of that teams tastes.
>>746536338Are you calling my wife ugly?
>>746536673Yes, her personality is cute but she only looks pretty in fanarts.
On the subject of that "Space opera scrimblo RPG" idea from the other day, I think it would be a perfect choice for it to go for a similar humor style to The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy. Would only be natural with the subject matter. My next pick would be Spaceballs, but I don't think you could pull off much serious theming with that.
>>746536775Fuck you, she's cute 24/7. Even when she gets hit by a car she still looks sexy.
>>746536858anon, she looks like foxy with lipstick and eyelashes, all of Fazbear's creations are ugly
>>746535380It seems that Wildfire has finally posted after 8 months, and they're looking for new programmershttps://x.com/UndertaleWldfre/status/2093820631255241066 Is there anyone from this website who's thought about signing up?
>>746536957>she looks like foxy with lipstick and eyelashesLike I said, cute. Besides, Foxy doesn't have hair, or hips, or a tail, or tits, or eyelashes. And he's got a stronger jaw (much stronger in some games)
>>746535263im half convinced that like 90% of these and most AUs/prequel games are created purely to try and get people to draw fanart of their ocs before pulling the rug
>>746536796>On the subject of that "Space opera scrimblo RPG" idea from the other day,I still don't know how this would play out, are you always on a space ship and only get to interact with npcs through menus? >>746537038all of the programmers in these threads are working on their own stuff.
>>746537038I can hardly program my own game, let alone someone else's
>>746537038>spoilerAnon, I'm pretty sure all the programers here are already working on original projects, if we had spare coders they most likely would rather help the other dev anons.
>>746536957Also, are you seriously going to tell me this isn't cute?
>>746537136The other 10% are also created with the intention of getting free fanart for their OCs, but they actually want to finish the project, I have no doubt UTY was like this to some extent.
>>746537150>I think it might be too much like a parody for UT/DRIf you just wanted to make a comedy game, which delivers its message purely through jokes, it could work. But if you wanted something more heartfelt like UT, you would need to do something else.>t, are you always on a space ship and only get to interact with npcs through menus? Or is there an overworld like in Undertale? It could be either, or maybe both. Maybe there's a classic JRPG style map screen where you control your ship in space, then you can land on planets to do away missions which have a party of crew members. Or maybe its majority space, and that's where all the combat is, with most interactions being through a video call, only occasionally leaving your ship for interactions. Or maybe it could do something like Fuga and let you walk around your ship and interact with characters between battles.
>>746537121>Besides, Foxy doesn't have hair, or hips, or a tail, or tits, or eyelashes.Funtime Foxy has a few of those.>>746537254Foxy is ugly too, sorry anon,
>>746537136>im half convinced that like 90% of these and most AUs/prequel games are created purely to try and get people to draw fanart of their ocs before pulling the rugThat sounds like another posibility of what Futility was actually about
Ok, now this has got me thinking about a FNAF x DR crossover fangame. You could have someone create a dark world in the pizza place, then all the possessed animatronics become darkners with split personalities like Pink. Or maybe instead of being like Pink and being such a distinct split, they're more like a new person made up of equal parts elements of the character and elements of the dead person possessing it, and you have to reach out and connect with them in the dark world to befriend them so they won't kill you when you return to the light world.Maybe it even alternates gameplay styles between a FNAF fangame and a UT fangame. This could probably work with an original setting if you really wanted it to though. Sure the inspirations would be clear, but I'm sure you could find a natural enough substitute for dark worlds, like entering some kind of shared dream state during the day, or maybe some sort of magic arcade machine. But a crossover might be more fun anyways.
>>746536858she's cute in a way, but she also look clearly intentionally jarring. After all, whats his name that started that series had a real penchant for making unique mechanical beings, and little skill for making things that looked like actual humans. I don't know if he was involved in that game since I know he's less involved than things in some way or another now? but it definitely contributes to a jarring appearance that isn't going to be liked by all. which I guess means more roxy for you huh.>>746537254I think that he probably appeals to a very specific demographic, to say the least.
>>746537436>But if you wanted something more heartfelt like UT, you would need to do something else.Yeah, undertale is only half comedy, there would be a pretty heavy tonal whiplash if you go from the kind of jokes you see in those parodies to the emotional moments that are usually found at the end of each chapter/area in UT/DR.>It could be either, or maybe both.I never played Fuga, but what you describe reminds me of Kotor and Mass Effect since you get to interact with your party members in your ship between missions. I think if you want it to feel like a true RPG most of the game should take place in space with your ship, since the ship is your "player character" the thing that level ups and gets to have builds, or I assume you can modify your ship for different builds, maybe there's a basic overworld with npcs and flavor text that you can access from time to time, but there's no combat in it, at most you get some minigames or puzzles.hmm, maybe you could do something with this distinction between the human player character and the ship player character, not something like Deltarune mind you, but it got me thinking how in fiction space ships are usually controlled by more than one people but in games you control them as if they were commanded by a single entity.
>>746537525>Funtime Foxy has a few of those. That's a different character. Foxy is a pirate possessed by a small child. speaking of scott and fnaf, I wish more fangames in this fandom found it acceptable to use royalty free music. I know the bar is set high with toborts work, but selecting appropriate music from stuff that already exists can get you really farhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sWC0deZZs4And the desolate hope is a really good example of this.
>>746537910>I never played Fuga, but what you describe reminds me of Kotor and Mass Effect since you get to interact with your party members in your ship between missions. Its sorta like that, but with Fuga, that's half the game. I think if you want it to feel like a true RPG most of the game should take place in space with your ship, since the ship is your "player character" the thing that level ups and gets to have buildsYou could have it be two RPGs in one. One is a more CRPG style with the ship, while the other with the away teams is more JRPG style. The ship one would focus more on positioning and tactics, while the infantry one is more party management and dealing with items. But your idea sounds simpler, which may be better> I assume you can modify your ship for different buildsYou could probably swap out ammo types, some of the weapons, maybe who crews what. Maybe you even have to manage replacing parts that break. Could even have a party of supporting ships you can choose, each with their own unique traits. >, maybe you could do something with this distinction between the human player character and the ship player characterMaybe you mind meld with the ship to control it. Most ships have an AI controlling them (probably with the notable exception of the primitive or luddite factiton that does everything by hand) while yours is controlled directly by (you), which is what makes it so capable. Maybe it still has an AI, but this AI is just there as an auxiliary for when (you) aren't present. And it could have a personality of its own. I know I'd like to have one that's some ancient imperial archaeotech that's really racist towards aliens and speaks with a posh british accent.
>>746538360I'm glad I don't see the world through your eyes. You'd probably call your favorite scrimblo ugly if you saw her (or him) irl.

>>746538409>I know the bar is set high with toborts work, but selecting appropriate music from stuff that already exists can get you really farThe thing is that at this point people expect the soundtrack to be full of leitmotiffs, almost every track in UT/DR has them, that on top of the fandom being full of composers, I think most players would find this to be an odd design choice, or at least the ones that actually try to analyze the OST.
>>746538341>it's the eyes, and her mouth looking like that old arcade game about smashing the gators heads. Those things are cute. Anyways, they don't move. A message from the Reloaded dev"Hi, this is from the creator of Undertale Yellow Reloaded. I'm sure that some of you have questions regarding my game or the direction of the story that I'm trying to tell, and while I can appreciate the support for the game, unfortunately I cannot answer any major story questions past the end of the demo. As that would risk the chance of giving away the remaining plot, intended to bring major changes to the Undertale Yellow you know.""All I can say for now is this: As you know, the recent demo follows after the events of New Home during the original pacifist route, and the full release will have to account for that. And of course, in the full release, a certain character will appear...""Seriously though, releasing this demo to the public has been an accomplishment for me. I want to keep being able to release updates in a timely manner, and that includes some more content to Martlet's section. On that note, how are you liking the demo so far? Were you interested in the story? Was it fulfilling for the story that Undertale Yellow established? Did you have anything else to say about the writing?""Feedback is greatly appreciated, and I'm always interested to hear the constructive takes that others have on my game. I'll continue to try updating the demo, but there may be a point where I'm satisfied with where it's at and move onto the remaining game. Maybe I'll get to posting screenshots of content that's yet to come..."
>>746539220>>746539301I know why, and that's why I said the bar is set so high. so I get why it happens I just wish that there was more of the understanding that it shouldn't be a demand that every dev has levied against them because fangames everywhere else are measured more fairly.

There's no overworlThat sounds like it would be too different from the UT/DR style, which is fine if that's what you're looking for, I haven't played Fuga so I don't know how these interactions would develop when there's no overworld.>You could have it be two RPGs in oneI was assuming we are working with a limited budget, that's why I didn't want to bring up more complex gameplay for the "on foot" sections. If anything I thought the ship would have the more action oriented gameplay, while the party gets the CRPG turn based tactics, I don't think turn based gameplay works well when you have a single character.>You could probably swap out ammo types, some of the weapons, maybe who crews what. That's what I was thinking when I said you could have different builds, not sure how you could implement the supporting ships, unless they are like small fighter ships.>Maybe you mind meld with the ship to control it. Most ships have an AI controlling themThis reminded me of the game FTL: Faster Than Light, technically in that game you control a crew in a space ship, the thing is that your entire crew can die and be replaced and anyone can take the position of pilot, there really isn't a "leader" crewmate in the game, which is why many people theorize that in FTL you actually control the ship's AI and the only reason why you need a pilot at all times is because that's a safety measure in case the AI goes rogue.>Maybe it still has an AI. I know I'd like to have one that's some ancient imperial archaeotech that's really racist towards aliens and speaks with a posh british accent. That seems oddly specific, but I like the idea of the ship being its own character, maybe it helps in battles too, the ship AI could be this game's "check" ACT giving you some useful info and flavor text.
>>746540069As another dev, I think the demand is fair, the fandom has a lot of composers anyway, you could easily find someone to make music for you if you have an actual game to show.Maybe you could ask them to remix some of that royalty free music if you like it that much.
>>746539972I'm glad to hear you're still working on it. I will of course address my posts as though I was talking to him directly to make things simpler.I'm gonna take another run through the demo soon but I wonder if Clover sitting on the floor when martlet talks about reading to him might prompt her to say he could sit somewhere more comfortable, in an awkward way. Then again maybe kids sitting on the floor as someone reads to them is normal.
>>746539972A bit of an odd way to comunicate with us, but alright, I have already given my opinions on UTYR, the writing worked well and the ending got me interested in what might happen later, if you want to add more content adding interactions between Martlet and the Honeydew shopkeeper would be nice, kind of like how Martlet reacts when you talk to Bits and Bites, I also think Martlet should comment when you interact with some of the object in her house.
>>746540362>>746540112I think it's great if you want to do it, but it's a fangame ultimately, expecting it to have the same production values of something that was paid for is not fair, even if something was made meeting those expectations. it should be exceeding expectations to meet the bar of a paid product.I understand that as a dev of this it's what you want, but uty for instance had a whole team of people. I just don't agree with where the bar is set and for instance see something like naranja where it's at as "wow this is amazing" and if it adds music of it's own that will just raise it beyond that in my eyes rather than "well this would be good if it had music of it's own."it's contrary to the spirit of what makes something a fanwork to judge it in that way I think.
>>746540207A fuck I forgot to reply to the post >>746538750
>>746539042>Welcome back? It never went anywhere. That's a meme.>Fair enough, maybe they're a more even mix. But sometimes they'll black out and do unexplainable things that they can't remember when you trigger some core memory. Of course the music would cut out and their eyes would go black when that happens.Seems apropiate, even if the ghost monsters and human ghost had the same rules there's still the small detail of these being the ghosts of children that got murdered, I think that wouldn't leave them in the best of mental states.>It doesn't have to be 1 for 1 equivalentI know, I think that Unrelated fangame was doing something more original with it, but I can't bother to check it.
>>746539243I forgot to respond to like half of this post and didn't realize it, I'm sorry anon.>They've got very expressive eyes, that's probably the biggest departure. Previously the eyes were sunken and always stuck either wide eyed and crazy looking or half lidded and dead looking.yeah I can see they definitely don't do the horror aspect as well. I don't mean to say they are a good replacement or serve the horror, just that as far as finding something cute or not, they do have a bit of a "unnatural factor" that can set off peoples nuh uh senses if they aren't so inclined>I would think a UTY fan would understand the power of foxeswell, true but I saw that toy chica thing FUCKING EVERYWHERE. I'm still a little surprised>The what?oh man, they were these things with like toy chica in an autism awareness pattern bikini talking about how you should goon to her because it's the best thing for an autistic person to do.it's the strangest fetish I've ever seen and I don't know if it has an actual name, but it's been done with a lot of characters, I just saw her with it a ton.
>>746540673I think the UT fandom is willing to give a lot of stuff a pass when it comes to quality, the music is the only exception since its so important to the original games>I understand that as a dev of this it's what you want, but uty for instance had a whole team of people. Not having an original OST isn't a crime, but again, with how important music is to UT/DR with all the leitmotiffs and connections you can find in the OST it does feel like the fangame is incomplete when it lacks in that aspect, it would be the equivalent of the sprites looking like placeholder assets instead of being proper drawings.>it's contrary to the spirit of what makes something a fanwork to judge it in that way I think.Thats a valid point, I just think its not that big of a deal in this case because of how easy is to find composers in the UT/DR fandom, not having an original Soundtrack is more of a choice from the devs rather than a limitation that they have to work with, even in these threads we have more than one composer.
>>746541031>That's a meme.Yeah, and its improperly applied. I didn't fight in two meme wars to see you idiots butcher the fine art of shitposting.>Seems apropiate, even if the ghost monsters and human ghost had the same rules there's still the small detail of these being the ghosts of children that got murdered,In retrospect, they'd probably be more like Gerson than Pink. But, you know, spookier.>I think that Unrelated fangame was doing something more original with it, but I can't bother to check it.From what I read, it was just darkworlds with the name changed.
>>746542263What's this? Dark World designs for Starlo and Roba?>Tail on StarloI wonder who was the first one to give Starlo a tail, and why a lizard tail of all things
>>746542830>What's this? Dark World designs for Starlo and Roba?to be honest I'm not sure, I don't remember if there was text posted with the art, but it stood out to me so I saved it>and why a lizard tail of all thingsI think because his star.. prongs? his star prong things kind of look like lizard frills if you squint, and he's in a desert area
>>746540148I'm not really a robofucker, but I'm not averse to it either. I think Star Wars and FNAF are why I like robots so much. Oh and probably Terminator. They just seem cool to me because of how much I was exposed to them at an early age. Though if I could be classed as a robofucker, it would almost certainly be because of FNAF.I think it might be more of the monsterfucker side of my brain, since while you would call those eyes bulging and glassy, I think they're cute and pretty. And that's a very similar disagreement to the one I had over Mal0's eyes, which I think look goofy. Really, a lot of creepy monsters just look friend shaped to me. Like Withered Foxy, he looks like he'd be a bro, even if I know I'm supposed to see him as some tragic monster. That monster = friend thing is probably why I'm here in the first place.
>>746542492>I think the UT fandom is willing to give a lot of stuff a pass when it comes to quality, the music is the only exception since its so important to the original gamesyeah and I do get it, it IS important, but I just feel like the way I see people go about it lacks "grace". lacks giving any consideration for a fan project in motion. I know not everyone likes DRY as much as me but it's like how I see some of those people tear into it and then bring stuff like that up and, sometimes it feels like "ok come on though give him some grace, he's even got a guy giving him some songs and there was that one post about the person wanting to make songs with lietmotifs.I feel like people should be able to go "alright I'd rather this have an OST but I'll now review the other things and give them credit where credit is due."I'll admit this may be a partially personal thing for me but I get a little upset at people not being willing to acknowledge what something imperfect may have done right. It's vaguely anti art? On top of that theres the people who are weirdly hostile to dry for no reason in the first place.(this is not of course, any disrespect to the people who had problems or criticisms with dry here, hope it doesn't come across as that). And yeah I think there's importance in letting a fangame have SOME grace because it's a fangame.>Thats a valid point, I just think its not that big of a deal in this case because of how easy is to find composers in the UT/DR fandom, not having an original Soundtrack is more of a choice from the devs rather than a limitation that they have to work with, even in these threads we have more than one composer.that's true, but well, I still think some grace is important to give.
>>746543016>I think because his star.. prongs? his star prong things kind of look like lizard frills if you squint, and he's in a desert areaI always saw him as an star fruit monster, even if that doesn't make much sense with his Dad being a sun and his mom a Moon.

>>746540207>That sounds like it would be too different from the UT/DR style, which is fine if that's what you're looking foI didn't mean it would copy Fuga fully. Besides a ship is more like a bunch of characters sharing a single tile space. It'd have multiple different weapons and systems all operating simultaneously. And you could always add a couple frigates to your squadron.>not sure how you could implement the supporting ships, unless they are like small fighter ships. You have them follow your ship in line, and you can give the individual ships orders, but don't have fine control of them like you do your ship. So you could tell them to move to flank or to pursue the the smaller enemy ships, or to stay with you and defend against small craft.>FTL well I think it would be game over if your player character died
>>746543448yeah I can see that, I'm just assuming that's what caused it, especially with his top prong obscured it kind of gives the impression of those cheek frills.>Dad being a sun and his mom a Moon.uh, sun fruit and moon fruit. it's just obscure, probably real I swear.
>>746543759>uh, sun fruit and moon fruit. it's just obscure, probably real I swear. His dad is actually a sunflower, Starlo and Orion were born as stars because it keeps the theme of their parents being celestial objects, him being an starfruit is a result of trying to keep the theme of his dad being a plant monster too while not changing his shape from a star.

They just seem cool to me because of how much I was exposed to them at an early age. Though if I could be classed as a robofucker, it would almost certainly be because of FNAF.understandable. it was the mega man series that started my interest with robots, and while I don't want to fuck mega man, liking robots in general is a short skip and a hop away from "robot lady creature thing... pretty.">I think it might be more of the monsterfucker side of my brain, since while you would call those eyes bulging and glassy, I think they're cute and pretty.and I can definitely see why they would be pretty like you said. they don't actually put me off and bother me but when I'm looking at it, I'm trying to "see it as someone not into or fond of this might see it". look for things that might catch someone elses mind. I think the thing with malo is that the skull and the white eyes invoke a sense of rot and death, so it's easy to have a sense of dread invoked. For me it's really a contest of personality though, so my mind starts being able to see any creatures plus and attractive points should I find myself liking the personality. I can kind of swim through the features and think about what's good or bad about them, and what makes me like them from that point. >Like Withered Foxy, he looks like he'd be a bro, even if I know I'm supposed to see him as some tragic monster.I suppose it depends. >>746540673Its not an issue of fair or unfair. Stock music simply doesn't work in UT. If you can't find music for your game, then you build the game around whatever music you can find.
>>746541585>well, true but I saw that toy chica thing FUCKING EVERYWHERE. >>746544285>Its not an issue of fair or unfair. Stock music simply doesn't work in UT.isn't using existing ut and uty tracks kind of the same as using stock music but lets you have more selection though?I mean yes I do understand you lose the lietmotifs, but you can still perform good sound selection. I also think that while lietmotifs are a strong tool, they aren't as mandatory. a lot of lietmotifs that you can only notice by going and personally examining the note patterns, I think that's more of just a "fun fact".
>>746544451>while Foxy appears in every game except Pizzaria Sim.ah I didn't know that. I wonder some time if I should play the games.>Imagine if Martlet saw that image, and somehow thought took from it that wearing an autism awareness bikini would be a supportive thing for her autistic human boyfriend.oh god if she walked out of the changing room like that I'd fucking die screaming, but not before looking around to see if there are any looks of recognition that make me need to die more painfully screamfully.
>>746543427>yeah and I do get it, it IS important, but I just feel like the way I see people go about it lacks "grace". A lot of people have offered to help with DRY's development, but DRY1anon has chosen to work mostly alone, a decision that I support, but at the end of the day that was his choice, the game could have more music if he chose differently.>I feel like people should be able to go "alright I'd rather this have an OST but I'll now review the other things and give them credit where credit is due."That's usually how most reviews I've seen on DRY go, there are a few kids here and there that do find it unacceptable, but the general consensus is that the fangame is good but they wish it had an original OST.>I'll admit this may be a partially personal thing for me but I get a little upset at people not being willing to acknowledge what something imperfect may have done right. It's vaguely anti art? I spent some time browsing the rest of the fandom when the new patch released and got exposed to a good amount of just, what feels like spiteful resentment of other projects?but maybe I let the vocalness of such people blind me to more grounded people. I just really think that a certain amount of grace is important when someone is making art for free. not to say it's good when you don't think so, I don't think that's what grace entails.>I get it, "credit where credit is due" the game lacking in one aspect doesn't have to ruin the entire experience, especially when it comes to fangames, a lot of effort and thought still went to everything else.yeah that's what I'm thinking here. >They do give them some "grace" in the sense that they can forgive the sprites not being of the highest quality, its just the music that gets this special treatment, again because we are talking about Undertale, the game that is famous for having such a huge OST full of interconnected music.well, some of them maybe give grace, but I see others that give anything but, and maybe I'm just letting the virulent minority taint my perspective.
>>746544565>I wonder some time if I should play the games. They're pretty good for what they are. Only a couple hours long each (shorter once you've gotten good at them). >>746544493You may not consciously notice the leitmotifs, but their presence is felt. Recycling music is something you can do, but you have to be very careful doing it. >>746544997>I think its also being into furries that can cause itI think part of why I don't call myself a furry is because, honestly the configuration of the being is secondary for me aside from well, not liking certain specific things.the being needs to be female for me but beyond that it's about the mind the behavior the subtle traits. After all, pastra >The worst case of this was me seeing a mech in an anime and thinking it was hot.well, that thing is sleek and sexy in the descriptive sense before we even get into personal tastes.>Well that's when you do an evil playthrough, so you can see someone summon a goat headed demon to kill you, then give him a hive five and secret handshake, and murder the guy who summoned him so you two can go paint the town red while laughing and joking.well, I generally play my characters down to what I think they would do (aside from avoiding making a character that is antagonistic in an unfun way to the party because I'm trying to respect their time) so if my character sees what this being is doing and isn't ok with it, I'm not gonna let myself stop him from acting just because it would be more convenient. But It depends on the character and the situation you know? I've definitely had characters who would indeed be ok with that.

>>746545782>we all noticed the Hopes and Dreams leitmotif when it played during the final part of A Mother's Lovethat's true, and I'll agree that it adds to the scene a ton, a shit ton even like it can't really be understated. But there's a sense that I feel sometimes like, people feel like they act as though the other things that are done really well don't actually matter or fail if there isn't a lietmotif. I think again this is a result of me maybe exposing myself to some of the worst vocal elements because I think a lot of people here could instead vouch that, if you were to mute the volume for instance, there are still a ton of things that UTY did right that can be picked out (aside from the things it did of course, do wrong). An ost does add a ton to an experience, but like those soundcloud AUs, it's not the end all be all by itself right?
