I generally have a prejudice against chink and gook games, but is Crimson Desert any good?
>>
>>746602332
depends on how much you like sidequests
>>
>>746602332

>>

>>
>>746602332
Yes it's good. I don't get your prejudiice though, good games are good games aren't they?

>>746602561
Even if you just play for the exploration and puzzles it's a great game if you ask me.
>>
>>746602687
I tried playing it for the exploration and every cool thing in the open world is exclusively there for a sidequest
>>
>>746602332
It's good if you like exploration and a game that throws all sorts of features in there just because the devs could. No other game does that these days so it made western shills seethe.
It also looks good.
>>
>>746602821
>It also looks good
did they fix the horrendous artifacting
>>
>>746602773
That's not true but some stuff is locked behind quests true. I think the sky island puzzles should've been more open but you have to progress the MQ to arbitrarily unlock a bunch of it.
>>
>>746602332
I pirated it the other week and it's really fucked up.

It's by far THE MOST video game I've ever seen. Bad? Not really. Slop? No. There's just so much shiiiiiit everywhere.
You can easily tell that these are MMO devs and that CD was originally an MMO they turned into single player.
>>
>>746602332
It's gookslop.
>>
>>746602880
Not sure. I never noticed it. My main gripe was when it had really bad pop-in over the span of a few updates, but they fixed that eventually.
>>
>>746602687
> good games are good games aren't they?
that inherently precludes korean and chinese games
>>
>>746603017
>You can easily tell that these are MMO devs and that CD was originally an MMO they turned into single player.
It's not like an MMO and it was developed as a SP game for the vast majority of the devtime.
>>
>>746603163
Why? Korea and China both have made some good ones.
>>
>>746602332
>but is Crimson Desert any good?
no and it never will be
the faggot that keeps shilling this dogshit needs to kill himself
>>
I think it's very good but it's a game I find hard to recommend. You basically either have to love open worlds to a fault or have a particular type of autism to like the game.

It's mostly about exploration and combat for me. The combat against random enemies is pure power fantasy where you can do DMC-tier cuhrazy shit, but then it randomly has bosses that will push your shit in (on hard mode anyways, ymmv I guess). Exploration is second to none, all the cool shit is unmarked and just hidden randomly in the map and there's a TON of shit.

To me, as someone that hates ubisoft time wasting open world shit it felt like a breath of fresh air and an open world that actually justified being open world + as content dense as it is. That's not to say there isn't some boring stuff (a lot of the side quests are forgettable)
>>
>>746602332
I pirated the 1.14 version. It's kinda funny how all discussion died out after the crack. The game has pretty graphics and it's certainly a game. For the rest it's utter shit. I like how all discussion around this game was that it get good after x amount of hours or that the person stopped playing after hour 300.
>>
>>746603358
Why can't you just like open worlds and enjoy it? I don't see why you need to be autistic to like this one. It's just a really good open world game with lots of variety.
>>
>>746603523
>It's kinda funny how all discussion died out after the crack
Most of it died months before that, I didn't even see any actual game discussion post-crack just people getting filtered early on.
>>
>>746603571
If you just like open worlds by the nature of them being open world you're free to. I just don't as I feel the content in them is repetitive and designed to waste my time in a boring, formulaic way.
>>
>>746603358
It tickled that itch for me too. Though I don't think it'll have much replay value because the exploration is such a massive part of what makes it good.
I haven't explored everything by any means, but I'm kind of dreading going back and restarting because of the 'enhanced' update. I was halfway through the story and I'm curious to see the changes they made to the story.
>>
>>746603636
Nah, in july there were still threads in the catalog. The last few weeks there were none (and I could finally discuss the game).
>>
>>746603764
I gave up during chapter 2. At this point I realized the story was just random characters magically appearing and then leaving. Tell me something about the story because I'm curious how there is a story.
>>
This game gets updated so frequently you are better off waiting until they are actually done with it.
>>
>>746602332
If you like playing games for the gameplay, use your imagination a lot in RPGs, enjoy exploring for unmarked things, and like puzzles, you'll enjoy it.
If you want to play the main quest and enjoy a good story you will not like it.
If you want a movie game you'll definitely not like it.

There are a couple of things about the game that are deceptive to prospective players.
First, it looks like it has souls combat but it doesn't. If you try to play it like rollslop, rolling around the enemy's attacks until mom says it's your turn to play, it will be both more difficult and way less fun. So I can't say "if you like dark souls you'll like this" because it's not like a souls game. Against crowds of enemies it's more like a beat-em-up or musou, and against bosses it's more like a fighting game where the goal is to win neutral and combo. (you can't do this against some gimmick story bosses in the last few chapters, they are very shit)
A surprisingly significant amount of the game is doing puzzles. If you hate puzzles and don't want to interact with them at all you won't get as much out of the game.

Also I haven't played the new patch that supposedly improves the story and cutscenes. But it's basically not a story game. It has a story but that's not the point.
>>
ive got like 300 hours and theres so much shit i haven’t done
just too much fun flying around on my wyvern
huge sucker for biomes, the landscapes are insane. just killed the ogre in the desert arena on a whim while exploring before i go back to the fishing the estuaries in demeniss
>>
>>746603249
They are sometimes fine but lack any soul whatsoever desu.
>>
>>746602332
>is Crimson Desert any good
no, a bulk of the game is spent being an errand boy doing over a hundred fetch quests (several repeated beat by beat for each new area), exploring a massive open world with nothing in it, with empty locations that only get populated once you activate the corresponding quest, and one of the dumbest nonsensical presentations of a story ive ever seen in a video game. it really is one of the most embarrassing pieces of shit imaginable.
>>
>>746603769
The threads are just shitposts though. When the game was new people were actually talking about stuff in the game that they found and telling stories.
>>
>>746604057
that's just Starfield. I didn't finish Crimson Desert because holy shit levels of content, but it's not that bad.
>>
>>746602630
Thanks for posting it, anon. I used my 20 minutes just now. Very fun. I immeditely hopped into the dragon and went on my merry way. I can see that the game is really pretty, even though it was being rendered in some 480p probably lol
I definitely want to play it, especially with all the fixes they pushed, but I don't have the time right now. Will def get in the future, maybe around the end of the year.
>>
>>746603249
Lies of P is the only Korean game to break free of the Koreans' inherent genetic imperative to make shitty games.
The chinamen are just hopeless.
>>
>>746604124
For me after playing it, it's realizing how utterly wrong any person for enjoying this game is. And I know it's subjective, I just know my taste is completely different from people who enjoy this soulles slop.
>>
>>746603861
>band of bros gets fucked up by hostile clan
>you have to get everyone back together
>work for nobles as sellswords and get land in return, solve mysteries, fight bosses etc
The female playable character is somehow important, but I never played her because she was always unavailable. The abyss shit is something that at release just felt separate from the story besides when you were talking to that bird lady. It's a series of puzzles that unlock items and equipment.
You get snippets of world lore by exploring and you eventually reclaim your land in the north and that's where I took a break from playing.

So yeah it felt all over the place, but it also wasn't totally incoherent slop, just lacked the exposition and follow-up for a lot of it. They say they've somewhat fixed that with this new update though.
If you already paid for it and like exploration I'd give it another try since you were just starting.
>>
>>746603523
discussion died months ago, the actual funny part is how the crack didn't revive it in the slightest

That does look like its 480p kek. It looks amazing with RR if you can run it, even with heavy upscaling(I mostly played at essentially 720p I think).

I was happy that I had something to look forward to for future GPU upgrades but then NR came out which is even more demanding than just RR so even like 2 gens from now I'll go back to the game to see how it looks.

Yeah, it will look amazing and maybe if you put some path tracing, mindbogglingly good and kind of entire new game, graphics-wise.
Very excited with the future of AI, but I bet we'll get some monkey_pawn_curls and this shit is going to be really fucking expensive until it becomes the new normal, say, 10 years from now.

Or lower, go figure. Pic related.

its too hot to play this game

>>746603017
I mean the devs came out and said as much but it was pretty early in development when they decided to change it to SP but they are from an MMO background so it was bound to have that fingerprint

>>746602332
If you like ac Valhalla, but with a story and character you feel absolutely nothing for, then this is the game for you. Otherwise no, it's not really good. And I'm not one of those schizo haters. It's really just not that good otherwise. It's like 90% identical to Valhalla, but with more weaknesses and downsides.
>>
>>746605080
Yeah, can't fault them. They showed all the signs and never hid anything about the game. It's exactly what they showed us. I kind of respect them a bit for this.

BotW and RDR 2 back-to-back killed the open world genre for me in the 2010s. People should've stopped trying after those.

From what i'm seeing, side quests is where the majority of content lies. Are these fun?
Any similarities to TW3 sides or old school wow zone questlines?
>>
>>746605064
AI will definitely make graphics cheaper to run. Base games won't be so complex and unoptimized if you can just toggle on a shader that makes it look like real life.
>>

sorry anon I'm just not going to pay half my frames to press the make-everything-ugly button
>>
>>746605514
The side quests are above average for open world games but not like TW3 tier. But that is NOT the majority of the content, not even close.
>or old school wow zone questlines?
I don't remember these so I'd say CD is a bit better than that, but again it's like not TW which has good writing. CD is very "safe" but it's above games with generic quests. I actually get a bit triggered when people say it's like an MMO because they don't feel like MMO quests.

This is a pretty good summary but do you really think soulsbabs couldn't find fun in the game? I think playing it like that could still be fun, just slow.
>>
>>746606409
You could still try and play it that way, I just think eventually you learn it sucks ass and start doing something else
The prevalence of rollslop has trained a whole generation of gamers to play all 3D action games by rolling around and occasionally geting in a few hits, if you take too long to unlearn this you'll find the combat less fun and think bosses are too hard or have inflated hp
>>
>>746606409
Weird how doing all this shit feels equally as janky as it is satisfying. Like running while holding LT into Y for that launcher with the bow out just looks so goofy, but I kinda like it
>>
>>746606545
That would explain why the drill b oss and the quarry filtered so many people, and why some journalists were seething so much.

>It's kinda funny how all discussion died out after the crack
That's every game now. No one's talking about games that were released half a year ago
>>
>>746606691
Quarry filtered me at first because mowing down all the blood bandits to wear down the % was just unfun
>>
>>746606767
You're supposed to destroy the infrastructure and raid it with your minions and/or take breaks.
Mindless people would just hold R2, say it's boring, then die to the boss though.
>>
>>746606767
Each building you're supposed to destroy takes out 20% of the bar and there's 5 buildings. If you leave the infirmary up then enemies will keep respawning. They literally tell you this in game
>>
>>746603075
No said this kind of retarded shit when Kingdom Under Fire games came out 20+ years ago.
CD is probably the new watermark for open world games. Go into any building, dropkick a dude off a cliff, fish, bounty hunt, gamble, role play as a tanner, hunt literally anything, horse driftiing, dragon wrangling, ruin raiding, it's fucking nuts.
>>
>>746607060
>>746606865
I was playing on 2.0 but the bar didn't drop at all when I took out the buildings. I found the same info in other places but still had to grind % after destroying buildings.
>>
>>746606691
The quarry is a simple matter of player freedom, you're allowed to go there very early, but if you wait until you have some greymanes and attack with your army, the massive amount of enemies dies off a lot faster.
Also people not reading how facilities work and slowly grinding down numbers instead of destroying buildings (including the hospital that regenerates enemies)

Drillfag is a good example of a filter for rollslop mentality yeah, it's actually trivially easy if you think outside the box a little bit. You can just climb up on a ledge and none of his attacks can hit you, for example.
The game is not just about puzzles because of the abyss, the boss fights are also puzzle-like because most of them have a weakness you can exploit.
I was getting my ass kicked by the spider, turns out she gets shit on by fire arrows.
Though I will say, Nature's Snare is a bit of a catch-all that solves way too many of these combat puzzles, it's pretty overpowered

The game is also probably a lot easier than launch now since you can use Damiane/Oongka for many things, and Damiane is simply OP as fuck. With a shotgun it's like Gun Break + Pocketwatch in Black Souls. I think they might've toned it down in a patch though
>>
>>746607121
still gookslop
>>
>>746606767
I just went around and herded them to the gazillion explosive barrels and shot them as enemies crowded around them. The boss is what really filtered me at first but once I got gud I fucking rekt him.

A surprising amount of the bosses in this game actually pushed my shit in. That one monk guy where you're training in the mountain cliff island section absolutely fucked me for a while on hard mode.
>>
My only issue is I feel like there needs to be more weapon types. Also it is criminal not giving Kliff a greatsword

>>746602332
its ok
bit politically safe for my tastes considering they made the female character a girl boss instead of the mc's love interest which is why the story is bland and forgettable

The one thing I really appreciate about this game's mechanics is that every move/tool you have has a purpose, usually even more than one. Any time there's a puzzle I get stuck on it's because there's one thing I haven't tried yet with my basic abilities or tools, and it makes me feel retarded for running around the entire place trying to find something I'm missing.

It’s genuinely unique.
Like if you hate remakes, and rehashes/sequel spam, this is your game.
Has a little bit of botw, a little bit of dragons dogma, little bit of red dead 2 with the camp.
The ingredients come together to make something genuinely cool.
Breddy good game all around, definitely a good adventure game.
I’d ding it for being a little jank and having meh writing, but it hasn’t really had much competition recently so whatever.

I feel like I missed a lot in the quarry. I don't remember destroying literally anything in the quarry, or there being anything particularly memorable about the boss. And I had no idea you could bring minions. I just went in and killed everybody and then the boss and that was it.
>>
>>746610571
Every big area you raid has an armory, infirmary, and a food shack that affects respawns and other shit. I don't even know if the game tells you about it organically though kek
>>
Crimson Desert is just fucking weird.

The studio's flat development structure allows for lots of unique ideas that you don't see in other games, but the trade-off of there not being an actual single mind to pull this all into a cohesive experience leaves it feeling incomplete.
I think if you fundamentally like video games then it offers lots of cool moments but the moment you go in expecting an experience comparable to a pre-existing fantasy/open-world game (typically that have more direction) then you would be let down.

The update is fascinating though, they actually "patched the story" because they felt it was something just as liable to be corrected as any mechanical element in the game itself. That sort of attitude to development is cool and why CD is interesting just for the meta aspect of what you get from something that is trying to be AAA but also exists well outside the culture of it.
>>
>>746611183
>a cohesive experience leaves it feeling incomplete.
This is just a mindless buzzword at this point. Literally the only thing wrong with the game is that the story is safe and mid and has some jank since they're MMO devs. Despite that, it's still better than most open world games in storytelling.

Everything else is top tier.
>>
>>746602332
