What do we do about the mass widespread failure of nintendo game cards?
>>
doesn't this only apply to 3ds and switch?
>>
MONEY STOLEN
>>
>>746663023
Game cards use low quality single-write flash nowadays. Not surprising to see failures.
>>
>>746663253
>>
If no one has already, sell all your 3DS game carts to Gamestop
>>
>>746663023
my 3ds games still work perfectly fine after 10+ years and I don't even play them all the time
>>
>>746663614
Coomlectors don't play games
>>
Use godmode9 or just play them yearly to refresh them before they die. I heard that they can actually fix themselves (error correction)
>Sealedfags lost
>>
>>746663023
Nothing? Working as intended, don't talk about it and just buy the rerelease if it gets one, goy.
>>
>>746663669
My 3ds exploded, literally.
>>
okay get a flashcart bro it's 2026

Wtf? how? why?
>>
>>746663669
You boot them from time to time?
>>
this is so depressing i have my old 3ds collection at my moms house you're telling me it's all fucking worthless i cant even play them?
>>
I just checked and all my DS, GBC and GBA cartridges still work
I hadn't tested the GBC ones in like 15 years
>>
>>746663023
Imagine still using gamecards on your 3DS.
>>
>>746664957
I assume he didn't replace the battery.
>>
>>746665035
Those will continue to work unless damaged, 3ds, switch and switch 2 use nand flash which if left unpowered for a period of time will start to corrupt.
>>
>>746665035
GB, GBC and GBA all use mask roms, they basically never go bad. DS and newer use flash carts, their floating gate can discharge over time, rendering the cart useless.
>>
>>746664990
I can't really tell you since I didn't keep track
but there was a time where I didn't even touch for almost 2 years, I think
>>
>>746665169
>>746665184
thanks for the info
I'll keep checking my DS ones yearly I guess
>>
whew, my R4i still works
>>
>>746663023
their fault for storing them improperly.
>>
>>746665184
>DS and newer use flash carts, their floating gate can discharge over time, rendering the cart useless.
I thought this was only for rewritable memory. Surely that's not what's in the game carts?
>>
>>746663023
Interesting. The ROM I downloaded of that game is perfectly functional on my New 3DS. It's able to be copied infinitely. It's almost like buying pieces of plastic with data stored on them to "collect" for hundreds of dollars is fucking retarded.
>>
>>746666018
b-but muh real hardware...
>>
Glad I never bought any nintendont crap
>>
>>746663023
>happens once
>>It's an epidemic!!!
you can give me your cards if you dont want them
>>
>>746666018
Note that SD/MicroSD cards are still vulnerable to dying from inuse.
>>
>>746666320
Retarded shit huffer
>>

you seem a bit mad mr shit projecter

Snoy FUD thread
>>
>>746664118
>I heard that they can actually fix themselves (error correction)
Only if you plug them into the console every few years and actually play the game. Even then, it doesn't guarantee you hit every weak block.
Running that specialized version of GM9 with the whole-cart self-refresh is the only way to be sure.
>>
>>746666501
Huffs its own shit again
>>
>>746666520
PS Vita games are also probably prone to this issue but the failures won't start for another two years give or take.
>>
>>746666659
put down the jenkem bottle, it doesnt help your creativity

EAZY sell them on ebay for inflated prices to millennial tendies desperately trying to relive their childhood before they get divorced and their wives take all the money and the children
>>

Mmmmm...
>>

They would be going to zoomer tendies and broken games will turn them into snoys.

>>

Keep an eye on your battery.
>>
>>746666000
>Surely that's not what's in the game carts?
Working as intended.
>>
>>746664532
I've heard of PSPs blowing up, but never 3DS's.

But now the 3DS is already much older than the PSP was when it first launched, so expect to see more and more of these reports as time goes on.
>>
If you bought the premium version of Persona Q, your cartridge is dead.
>>
>>746668317
Yeah, persona q, persona q2 and pokémon Alpha Sapphire/omega ruby are the most prone to failure, I wouldnt buy a sealed copy of those.
>>
>>746663614
>gamestop
great way to get jewed, people pay crazy prices on ebay

it was super obvious when the psp battery was bloated because it'd pop the back cover off

Why them?

This used to actually mean something.
>>
>>746669713
I don't what he's talking about with Persona Q2, but Persona Q1 and Pokemon ORAS were released around the same time at the end of November 2014. It's been speculated that Nintendo just had a bad batch of carts in that brief window.
>>
>>746663023
play the widely available backups of them instead?
btw the flash that holds the save data usually still works when this happens. i was able to rip my save file from my dead persona Q cartridge.
>>
>>746663023
I noticed that my personally owned and bought new 3DS carts are still fine to this day.
USED carts have always given me issues
>>
>>746670000
No it didn't.
>>
In regards to Persona Q, if your cartridge has the code AQQEX40220 on the back, it is a later edition and should still work
>>
no... my physical media...
>>
i remember i tried to play my copy of persona q like 3 years ago and it didnt work
>>
>>746663023
We hack our 3DS so that you can play the games without a cratridge.
>>
>>746663023
I've never bought a DS or a 3DS game card. The only card I have is an R4.
>>
>>746663614
Way ahead of you, I sold most of my games for rent back in 2015 and never bought them back. Oh well. I also sold my Vita, both my PSP, 3 PS3's, 3 PS4's and a PS5 to GameStop. I am bad with money.
>>
>>746666915
>>746663614
Selling them on eBay is stupid beucase then the buyer can legally claim they don't work and then OP is fucked of a game, the money, and shipping. Selling them to GameStop is the only right choice.
>>
>>746671450
>3 PS4s
>No Games 5
Why
>>
>>746671884
Why did I sell them? For rent money and weed money. Why did I buy them? Because the PS2 was my favorite console ever and the PSP is still the best handheld ever, so since it had Sony's name I bought them.
>>
>>746663023
>>746663073
>>746663253
>>746663614
>tendie physical cucks pwned

lmao. deserved for whining about 'muh games being taken away'
>>
>>746672584
>weed money
>since it had Sony's name I bought them
jesus christ
>>
>>746672850
Like I said, I am bad with money. But the money had to be spent on something. Might as well be something that I enjoyed.
>>
>>746663023
I have an extra copy of Echoes still sealed. Would it be wise to try selling it? Echoes game cards in particular are known to be failing in recent years.
>>
I wish I had a friend to play 3DS with. Its not fair
>>
you're telling my my nintendog is dead?
>>
>>746673234
I don't know, but I still have the amiibo's of Alm and Celica in box from the special edition.
>>
>>746673296
I’m afraid that dog is dead
>>
>>746673938
NOT THE HECKIN PUPPERINO
>>
>>746664957
All lithium-ion batteries will eventually fail, if you have a 15+ year old handheld with the original battery you should probably take them out/replace them now before they start leaking/bulging out of the console.
>>
>>746663023
>NO EMULATION IS BAD
>AND ILLEGAL

>WHY IS MY 1,000 WRITE CYCLE NAND FLASH CART DYING

AHAHAHAHAH
HAHAHAHAHAHHA
>>
>>746666093
Real hardware is cool, the obsession with physical is kind of dumb though. For example, the laser on any disc based system is going to fail long before the rest of the console. Modding them to play games via an SD card or hard drive is both more convenient/reliable and the only way to keep those old systems working. Eventually though, emulation will become the only way to play retro games at all.
