The reason it's so much slower is the PCI bus limits + the cpu needing to pass the data and instruction to RAM + it all having to do the reverse. If the GPU had some direct hard link to the system RAM the way the CPU does, it would still be bad, but maybe 40% the normal speed instead of 5%.The steam stats are showing laptops reporting the cpu ram as video memory.

The best experience on pc right now is playing maxed out 10+ year old games that often overshadow current year ones in the gfx and gameplay department. Shit that was shunned as mid back then are 9/10 in comparison to what we get now. The games demanding high end today don't justify it with the result. You get high end performance draw for what should be mid tier gfx in comparison to how 10 yearnold games look and run. The only other reason to get a high end pc is for high end vr and that's basically the moneybags tier of today since on most displays the jump from 1440p to 4k is barely notocable and you only notice 8k at all in an hmd

You don't notice the nasolabial folds at going 100 mph 360 noscoping. But you will notice the weird fisheye effect it can create. And if the high end feature is better turned off for you, you don't need it.
