What the fuck was his problem?
>>
>>746683262
I liked his questline because it made my character seem like a genuine sociopath who was barely able to feign interest in his whole drama while eagerly awaiting the next curse lesson.
>>
>>746683262
i haven't finished the game yet but what's really the problem? Why is that spell that removes the pain from the body forbidden?
>>
>>746683435
Harry and Draco both tried to cast that curse and failed because they didn't mean it. Sebass was just all like
>lol
>this door aint gonna open iteself
>bite the pillow, sweety

YOUVE GOTTA MEAN IT
Which implies that casting it requires a mindset that goes far beyond opening a door and advancing a game's plot.
>>
My wife is playing this game and holy shit it has to be the single most "diverse" game I've ever fucking seen.
>>
>learn "forbidden" magic
>run around spamming it for the rest of the game and no one gives a shit
>>
>>746683782
you will find out when you keep playing the game, everything will be explained.
>>
>>746684232
Well, in canon, the ministry woulda showed up with the "Oi, you got a loicense for that curse?"
>>
>>746683435
>>746683858
>YOUVE GOTTA MEAN IT
And this goes for all the unforgivable curses, too. In Goblet of Fire, Moody (Crouch) tells the class "You could all cast Avada Kedavra at me and I wouldn't even get a nosebleed". So the fact that our character can dish these things out on command without breaking a sweat is kind of insane. Imagine if the sequel reveals that our character is like Grindelwald or something, I think the timeline actually lines up.

Because the way the Unforgivable Curses are supposed to work is that you have to feel incredibly strong negative emotions to use any of them.

Want to using the Killing Curse? You have to feel an overwhelming urge to murder the one you're pointing your wand at, without an once of mercy or regret.

The fact our MC can fire them off so casually is horrifying.
>>
>>746685402
Forbidden magic is a video game mechanic, so up until a couple years ago it wasn't really a lore problem
>>
>>746685402
The ministry tracks all magic performed by wands which is how they got to Harry in order of the phoenix, they only remove them when they hit adulthood.
These are also hard to achieve and on top of that you need crystal clear intent and a fucked up mind essentially.

Every spell takes practice and learning and has a skill floor and ceiling to boot, some way more than others to the point it takes people years just for 1 spell.

>Because the way the Unforgivable Curses are supposed to work is that you have to feel incredibly strong negative emotions to use any of them.
And even then, that's not really enough. Harry tried to use crucio on Bellatrix after he watched her murder the only family he had left and it still wasn't enough because he's like a pure soul or whatever. You have to be a genuine psychopath for the Unforgivable Curses to really work, that's why using them carries them a life sentence.

IIRC, even when the main squad tries using imperio in Deathly Hallows, it doesn't 100% work for this reason.
>>

um, cast it on me again, sebastian, pleeaseee!
>>
>>746685402
What's funny is that I don't really need the Unforgivable Curses to murder all these Poachers.

I just used a spell to knock a Goblin's Axe out of his hands and throw into someone else's face and now I'm turning another guy into a chair before setting the chair on fire.

Every other Student know how to do this.
>>
>>746685601
See, I like this explanation. When I played the game and saw the arbitrary 6 or whatever limit on the avada kadavra casts I thought "wait, so is this a mana/stamina issue? Can people really theoretically cast an instakill spell infinitely?" But yeah, I like the whole imsane hatred requirement way more.
>>
>>746685735
You said "a kid with forbidden magic". I assumed you meant the special ability that the protagonist has in Hogwarts Legacy. If you just literally mean "knowledge of forbidden spells", this entire thread is full of people explaining why that doesn't work. You basically need the right mindset to make any Unforgivable Curse work properly.

That's why Mad-Eye (Crouch) in Goblet of Fire was allowed to openly teach students the names of the curses. They couldn't just go out and use them on their friends unless they were like 1 in a million psychos.
>>
>>746685402

>>746685898
That was me, not him. I figured because the the way the game treats it that just anyone can learn the instakill spell.
>>
>>746685819
It actually raises a question that I remember encountering in a lot of the edgy Harry Potter fanfiction I read in middle school: Isn't Wingardium Leviosa technically a dark magic spell, if you use it to levitate a guy off the side of a cliff and then drop him?
>>
Having problems with a bully at Hogwarts? The school will easily tell you how to grow Chinese Chomping Cabbages.

How you choose to use that knowledge (and get away with it. Castle Ghosts are all snitches) is up to you.
>>
>>746685982
No, because it doesn't require the intent of gleefully watching his head smash upon the rocks below to cast. You can cast it just to like... strain pasta. The reason the unforgivable curse are unforgivable is because they can not be cast without unforgivable intent, where as straining pasta doesnt.
>>
>>746685601
This is what makes me side eye Sebastian, because if you have him cast it on you to open the door the fucker does not even hesitate. Fucker clearly secretly hates you.
>>
>>746685920
Nah, it's pretty different from real life. In real life we don't just hand a gun to every college student (recall that many of them are going through a "seize the means of production" phase) and tell them they can only use blanks. Plus since every wizard has a wand, it would be even more discrete. It would be like if every college student wore a black glove that shoots confetti, but one guy just happens to have the glove that shoots bullets.
>>

>The fact our MC can fire them off so casually is horrifying.
MC can also do it at completely inconsequential people too. Like half the people you meet innawoods are functionally just basic robbers who aren't even trying to kill you but just knock you out and you go full on AK at them. Even random animals who have done nothing yet get the AK shout.

Personally I'm a fan there was no downside to casting them because it was beyond hilarious to Crucio everyone, then Imperio, then chain kill hordes of everything with Avada Kedavra. As a Hufflepuff. Including in front of the teachers in the finale. Not a single person gave a damn I was literally murdering everyone with intent in front of them let alone ask how I learned it.

Yeah it honestly just feels like a poorly-thought out game mechanic awkwardly forced into the story. The much simpler, and *much* more obvious way to make your protagonist special, would be to give him the Elder Wand. Would also explain why our character is literally 5 years behind all his peers in education but somehow better than all of them at magic and able to go toe-to-toe with adults in duels.

They also teach spells like Stupify which paralyze the body and can be chained indefinitely or even left on indefinitely. Even high-tier wizards get caught by it and in Hogwarts Legacy you can kill some of the highest tier basic mobs with it via a sneak cast.
They teach children Alohamora which essentially means unless you are a wizard who has cast a charm to directly counter it they can go into any building they want, steal anything they want, and do anything they want because they know this combined with Stupify.
They teach Arresto Momentum which is basically another form of Stupify if that didn't work out.
There's also Confringo and Incendio which, let's be real here, has like two legitimate usages (Camping and keeping a fire lit to survive) yet they're teaching children a molotov cocktail spell with no fall off and no way to tie it back to them.
They teach children how to make Liquid Luck which, if they succeed, could genuinely change history if used at the right time or in the right situation.

Honestly, it's astounding that the Wizarding World isn't in complete anarchy with all the spells they teach children. Don't even get me started on the ghosts that actively harass everyone, can't be stopped outside of very specific ways, and can actively affect people if they want.

I bought that Hannibal Lecter mask in the Hogsmeade store and equipped it on my Slytherin character, and it fit hilariously well with what a little psycho the MC is in this game. I can't speak for others but once the open world opened up I lost interest in the game. I hate the Ubislot POI gameplay loop so fucking much. >>

>>
>>746687468
Don't forget Petrificus Totalus, a total paralysis spell that Hermione learns to cast as First Year. I get that this is book for kids and Rowling wasn't thinking this through too much, but the implications are kind of horrifying. Especially since Muggles have no defense against magic, and the second you graduate Hogwarts the trace is gone and it's basically open season.

It's part of why I buy into the fan theory that all "Muggle-born" characters in the story are just date-rape half-bloods. In a setting where anyone with a HS education can commit rape and then wipe the victim's memory, or just use potions (the way Voldemort's mother did to his father) the number of muggles being raped by wizards/witches must be off the charts.

Exactly. And it gets worse, I'm thinking of all the stuff I remember from the books now. There's a spell you can hit someone with that'll make their teeth grow down to their waist (Snape saw Hermione get hit with it and said "lmao", I'm sure he was a good guy all along and this wasn't a retcon). Harry hits Draco with the "massive blood losss from a billion gashes at once" spell in Half-Blood Prince. Obliviate is horrifying for a million reasons. We saw it hit Lockhart and *years* later, he is essentially a permanent invalid. Did he do that to all his victims? How many mentally disabled people in Wizarding Britain are victims of the Memory Charm? We also know in lore that Obliviate is commonly used whenever Muggles see something magical. Are they permanently affected the same way?

Are the hospitals and mental institutions of non-magical Britain full of people who saw a dragon than had their brains permanently fried by Ministry wizards, leaving them unable to read or write or remember their own name?

Good point. We know, for example, that Soviet soldiers would castrate Germans and stuff the genitals into the mouths of the corpses before leaving them for other Germans to find. We know Germans would call everyone out for assembly in random villages (without a single Jewish person in them) and then gun everyone down before throwing them into ditches. We know both sides engaged in mass rape. The implications of those armies being armed with date rape potions, transformation potions, paralysis spells, and so on are pretry horrifying.

Avada Kedevra isn't a murder spell, its a spell that just basically extinguishes life. He wanted Dumbledore to die because he was suffering.

Because Dumbledore was high as fuck on Muggle pot and eating Muggle sweets with his Phoenix homie in his office.

McGonagall joined in occasionally, but showed more proper restraint.

>nape was a fair, but strict teacher. Unironically did nothing worng
When Hermione gets hit with a curse that's causing her front teeth to grow literally a foot (which could have easily resulted in excruciating inury if she'd bitten straight down btw), Snape just says "I see no difference" and lets it slide. He torments the shit out of Neville to the point that Neville's GREATEST FEAR is Snape. Not Bellatrix, the woman who tortured his parents to insanity. Snape. The movies whitewash him a bit and take away some of the more egregious stuff, except for comedy bits (like where he whacks Harry and Ron on the back of the head for talking while studying).

But he was an absolute asshole to everyone in Gryffindor, and especially to Harry and Harry's friends.

I'm fairly certain there's entire classrooms of Non-Slytherin students who have no idea how Potions work because Snape couldn't be bothered.
>>
>>746690673
Well, then maybe harry shoulda joined snape's house. And hermione was annoying as fuck. Thit got what she deserved. Maybe if she used less teeth for her extra credit, snampe wouldnt have made the joke.
>>
I still can't believe the whitest you can make your character in this game is a swarthy Mediterranean. Might be first and only game ever made where you can't be white when creating a custom character.
>>
>>746690770
Considering that Harry was essentially a B student in potions in 5th year and then instantly became a top-of-the-class prodigy in 6th just by following some of Snape's notes, this is entirely possible.

>>746690847
>Well, then maybe harry shoulda joined snape's house.
You think Snape would have hated Harry *less* if he was a Slytherin? Imagine watching your school bully's spitting image strutting around in your old uniform.
>>
>>746690929
I think the Outer Worlds had that problem as well. At least, the first did. I haven't played Outer Worlds 2.
>>

>Imagine watching your school bully's spitting image strutting around in your old uniform.
And speaking in part&parceltongue. Its like watching your nemesis's son come out as trans. Nothing but good vibes. You go girl. Slay queen.
>>
>>746690929
Exact reason why I immediately uninstalled this trash, literally first openly anti-white game ever made and there's more to come.
>>
>>746691210
Except for a Slytherin, speaking in parceltongue is like a mark of the messiah or something. It would be doubly insulting.
>>
>>746691325
Okay, so Harry would be a hot femboy, but its delightfully ironic for someone who hates his father. If anything snape woulda been worse just because he'd start grooming Harry to be a death eater because god it would be so fucking funny, pls let this happen.
>>
>>746691453
>Okay, so Harry would be a hot femboy
>If anything snape woulda been worse just because he'd start grooming Harry
You're taking this in a weird direction, man. First the trans analogy, now the femboy analogy.
>>
>>746691523
Im drinking, but snape would lmao knowing James was looking down and seeing all the slytherians worship Harry as the next coming. Snape doesnt have any reason to hate Harry for disgracing his father's opinions.
>>
>Harry, did I ever tell you about your mother Lily? She was my favorite student. That young witch was so smart and lovable that I still think fondly of her and regret her passing every single day. By the way, please treat the man responsible for your mother's death with the respect he deserves. You will address him as PROFESSOR Snape. Dumbledore was smart enough to look past his utter betrayal of the woman he supposedly loved, his yet unknown number of murder victims, and his fealty to the only Dark Lord that Britain has had in hundreds of years to give him unrestricted access to the highly malleable and vulnerable minds of children. If you keep up your bad behavior I will have no choice but to give you another detention in our highly dangerous forest with only 3 other 11 year olds as protection.
What the fuck was McGonagall's problem?
>>
>>746687225
Probably wouldn't have gotten so much publicity if the anti-rowling trannies hadn't screamed their heads off ironically.

>>
>>746692182

literally her entire character is there to be Dumbledork's guiding hand when he isnt present. Theyre basically the same character as far as Im concerned.

>>
>>746685172
I like the fact that frankly not that far into the forbidden forest, you know the one that fucking everyone goes in anyway is a fairly easy to find combat trial and the closest one to hogwarts that just fucking gives you all the bad boy curses and tells you to go ham.
Amazing advertising to sucker in purists out of game and I guess in game about right for the least osha/HSE compliant school in the universe.

There is no reasonable in-universe explanation for that, it's a clear case of real life cultural and demographic trends exerting their influence on the fictional work.

>>
Have they ever explained how house elfs are magically superior yet wizards some how have their species enslaved?
>>
Gobstones
>>
>>746714597
Wizards have no sense of right or wrong
>>
>>746714687
Because house elves aren’t very smart. They were basically domesticated super early on once the early wizards realized this important fact.
>>
>>746714687
I rationalise it by assuming that, since it’s so rare they’re allowed to use their magic independently, wizards stopped accounting for it
>>
>>746684642

Aren't they only dumb because wizards keep them dumb?
>>
>>746683262
I really felt like this whole question was forced. Plenty of seemingly reasonable interactions that would logically conclude in all parties doing the right thing, but no. We had to get to the point where he kills his uncle and gets thrown in jail because it's more dramatic than what would realistically transpire based on all the observed interactions prior.
